Siemens SL56 or Sony Ericsson T616?

Hi, new member here.

I'm looking to purchase my first cell phone, and I'm stuck between the SL56 and the T616 (I'll be getting AT&T for my service).

I like the SL56 because the ProSlider feature seems really cool, and it has a speakerphone (big plus). I've also heard the RF is good. However, I've heard the phone feels cheap.

The T616's main feature, the camera, really has no bearing on my purchase. If it came down to having a camera or a speakerphone, I'd choose the latter. Also, I don't really care too much about Bluetooth as I don't have a BT headset or plan to sync my phone with anything. I've heard mixed feelings on the reception. The 65k color screen is much better than the 4096 one on the Siemens, of course, but I've heard that the screen is practically unusable in bright sunlight.

Could some recommend which phone would be better for a first time user, or someone who has experience with both phones recommend the better one?

Thanks in advance.

I have the SL55 and it's identical (except that the SL55 is triband and the SL56 is dualband). Anyways...

SL55/56: Small, lightweight, portable and extremely cool to be using. This was my replacement for my v70 which was a replacement for my 8890. I wanted a phone with an active-slide and this fit the bill. Plus, it had IrDA and I use that quite a bit. Another thing, it is WAAAAAY more customizable than the SE T61x (you can customize your SMS tones and startup/shutdown logos). The screen isn't as bright and crisp as the SE T61x but you can see it perfectly in direct sunlight. Speakerphone is almost non-existent and can't really be used in any enviornment that has some noise. It's really soft, too. Oh, and it does feel a little cheap because it's really light.

T61x: Also small and somewhat lightweight. A lot of people have this phone and you'll blend in perfectly with everyone else. The screen is very bright and is very nice to use in any condition...excelt in direct sunlight, which you can't see at all. The camera is very good (as expected in a small package).

If all you care about is a phone with speakphone capabilities, I'd recommend something else because the SL5x isn't good to be used as a speakerphone...it's more like a novelty. You might want to give a look at the Nokia 68xx instead because the speakerphone on that is superb...

I'm not saying a speakerphone is a must, it's just I prefer one that's usuable, doesn't have to be the best ever. I'm pretty sure I'm going with either one of these two phones, and I'm leaning more towards the SL56 because I've heard good things about it's RF, but I'm still considering the T616. *sigh* decisions, decisions...

I have the SL56. If you dont use the phone for more than voice/messaging you're ok. However, once you get deep into the menu you'll get confused to the point you will feel nausiated. Almost everytime I whip out my phone to get a call I get an "Wow! Where did you get that? How much is it? That's really neat!" It's a good feeling for about 500 times. Then its annoying. You're phone gets all grimy from other people touching it 24x7.

I def. would not get the T616 if you don't use a camera. Get the S307 or wait for the V400 (I'm selling the SL56 to get the V400 when it comes out for Cingular).

Hope that helped.

Actually, I'm thinking of opting for Cingular and going with the LG G4050...I think it looks nice, and it's been getting pretty good reviews, plus it's only $50 after $100 trade-in rebate.
