It's a great looking phone. Makes me yearn for my japanese phone (which is Panasonic, and looks alot like it) once again. Great little thing though.

If it wasn't for the poor coverage, I'd be jumping all over it Unfortunately, Verizon (which I consider a better carrier) is moronic when it comes to handset manufacturer relations.

Yeah, I was with J-phone in Osaka last year and had that same phone you have- J-P02. As cheap as it was (I think 8000yen "preka"--for prepaid) it beat the hell out of all the phones I own here... But I was highly envious of my girlfriend's DoCoMo P502i with the Java (iAppli) feature. Now that we have almost causght up here in the states, I am going back to Japan this summer... Great-- me and my trusty J-phone ride again!

Actually, it is a great phone. It is just single band, but has fantastic reception. I have only dropped one call since I got it in November, and I get recetion 10-15 miles further than I did with my old Neopoint. The PIM is quite powerful, too. I'd call it a nearly-smartphone.

The new Hitachi G1000 is due out soon. It probably also has great reception, but it is huge.

Oops. I see that post I responded to was May of 02, not 03. Ah, well, time marches on. In any case, based on the P300, I can tell that Hitachi does make a good phone. It is very well made, durable, bug-free, has good battery life, and excellent reception. As a result, I'll definitely consider the new Hitachi G1000 when the time comes to move up to a smart-phone, but it sure is big. Unfortunately there isn't much else decent on the Sprint agenda coming up. The SPH-i500 from Samsung will be small but the SGH-i500 will be the better phone by far. The Kyocera 7135 looks nice, but Sprint isn't carrying it, and who knows about the Treo 600, which also looks very nice.
