A few S55 questions

I just managed to pick up one of these quite cheap here in the UK, and have a couple of questions about it:

1. Mine came with a software version of 20...is this the latest version of the firmware? It said manufactured date of 2003-10-10

2. the charger is a uk 3 pin one, but just says, 230v on it, I take it this is NOT a 100 to 240v travel charger? Which is a bit cheap for a supposedly business phone!!

Thanks for any help

Vince

1) the v20 firmware is latest.
2) the charger is just for UK. not universal.

Funny, my charger is also a UK 3 pronger, but I use it here in the US with a simple adapter that gets it to 3 prong US and it works/charges no problem. The adapter says 250v on it FWIW.

according to one of my tech friend, it will work because US is 120v and the charger is 240v, BUT it will be underload. it means your battery will undercharge. the battery will think it is fully charged but actually it is NOT.

I don't know if it is true or not but I believe my friend since he is a very good cellphone tech.

so you better go and buy a charger which is within spec.

That may in fact be the case. That said, what the phone thinks is a full charge is plenty for my use.

but I am worring

1) it will shorten your battery life
2) it may damage your charger or even your phone in long term

You have to keep in mind that the "charger" is just an AC->DC converter. Most AC/DC converters will handle a wide range of incoming voltages (from 100V for the US to 220/240 for most of the rest of the world). They output the same voltage DC no matter what. It gets into that whole amperage/wattage/voltage thing. It's not going to damage your battery or anything. I don't feel like crawing on the floor to check my S55 wall brick, but it should list an output voltage and wattage DC.

Similarly, most laptops and other portable devices will take a big incoming voltage range. Just uhh.. check the plug before you assume

I agree. I highly doubt it's pumping in 240v into your phone battery.

My guess is that it won't make a damn bit of differance. I also do not think it's undercharging. Either the battery is full or it isn't.

Yeah I'm no expert by any measure but I'm with you...I've noticed no unusual issues at all...including heat - and I *have* had funky stuff with other electronic toys when plugged in internationally - like excessive heat. The S55 (and its battery) seem fine.
