8600 Blinking Banner SOlution? Confirm?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Someone posted this on PhoneScoop... can any users of the 8600 with PRL 50113 confirm this works even after the phone is turned off and back on? While I had the 8600 I had a custom banner but still had the blinking LCD problem.

---------------------
To change the banner flashing and just show the time on the outside LCD do the following:

1. Press the upper left soft key (ie the one with the "..." on it).
2. Press 6, 2, 2, 1
3. Press OK key, to edit Banner
4. Type in a banner (puts it on the inside LCD screen), up to 32 characters.
5. Press the OK key to save.

I did this 20 min ago and the time is there always. I even turned it off and back on and just the time appears, no VZW banner.

Too bad... I returned the phone a month ago but would consider getting it again if this is ever fixed. Of course by that time I'll have the Audiovox 9900 and the point will be moot

No dice. I, too, have PRL 50113 and this solutiond did NOT remove that pesky Verizon Wireless Banner from the outer LCD screen. Anyone else have luck with this?

I can't stand this new feature either. The first thing everyone needs to do is be sure they call Verizon everyday to tell them that they have to change this. After enough calls come through they may change the software to allow deactivation or at least lengthen the loop (which would be no more than 2 lines of extra code).

After talking with the tech at my store, he said Verizon doesn't want it deactivated, BUT since I was standing there they have the authorization to do so. All they have to do is change the PRL or ERI ID to a version that didn't carry this feature. The store I went to didn't have the cable to do so yet, but he told me to check back in a few weeks. The phone on display didn't switch so he knows at least which version to go back to.

In any case it can be done, but they dont want to do it.

By going backwards, it will change your roaming list and you may not get as good of reception and you may go into roam or extended network as I was told. I figure it is worth a try and if it causes a problem, I can always update.

As far as I'm concerned my display only works half the time.... that's the way I'd put it. I'd swear if I glance to see the time it fails 90% of the time.

Here is how to do it:

Menu->
Settings(6)->
System(4)->
Nam Setting(3)->
Auto NAM(1)->
Yes(2).

It will come back on whenever you reboot. If you have auto NAM set already, reset it to auto or change to No then back to yes and it will work.

Now if only we could get the phone book to find by first letter of the name...

This is a temporary solution at best. It will switch back for various reasons, and sometimes for no detectable reason at all.

It will switch back if you loose the signal and the phone searches for service.
