what would cause an s46 not to lock on to GSM?

I just aquired an s46 and I wanted to see how it compared to my nokia 6590 in GSM mode. I've set it so that it will only lock onto GSM signals but for some reason it wont find a signal (with my 6590 in the same location I get about 4 bars).

Anyone have any reason why GSM mode wouldn't work?

I'm with at&t btw.

Is GSM enabled? Under the network sub menu you can lock the phone to TDMA. Check you manual for the particulars.

I don't have a manual, I aquired this second hand. But yes I can lock the phone to tdma and to GSM, with tdma it finds signal no problem but with GSM it can't find anything.

Sounds like your S46 is broken. Have you ever used it on GSM?
How much did you pay for it?

Luckily I got it free because it was "broken". The previous owner was not very tech savy so I wouldn't be able to know whether or not if they ever got GSM service.
