Hi, I'm new to the forums and was wondering if anyone knows when or if Sanyo 5500 will be available at Costco? Will it be available on Nov.24th, soon after? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ookami.

I went in on the 26th and there was nothing new, except for that new Color screen Nokia.

I went to Costco on Dec. 5th and was told by the Sprint Rep that the 5500 is "awesome" (his words). He stated that Sprint had a meeting that a.m. and he saw/tested the phone. Loved it but that Costco had decided not to carry it. Now this could have been this particular Costco (it's in Alhambra, a suburb of Los Angeles), but it sounded like the phone wasn't coming to Costco at all.

If this is wrong info, please let me know.

Also, he said it's very difficult to get the phone right now. Apparently, a limited # of phones were released, with the next set being released "mid January" and the rest to be available "market-wide by February 2004". Again, he could have been mis-informing me, but he was also selling the 8100 and seemed to know all the in's and out's, so I fancy he was rather on track with this info.

Again, please let me know if you know differently, since I'm looking for the same thing.

On a side--yet related--note...I wanted to change from Sprint, btw, but T-mobile calls get dropped alllll the in my area--even with their top-rated phones (I tested the Nokia 6610). Bummer, because I hate Sprint otherwise. Also, the rebate for $150 is availabe through Sprint Stores or Costco, if you're a new Sprint customer or have had your phone over 18 months. You then sign up for a 2-year contract with Sprint, get the 1000 minutes for $45 deal, and get the phone (the 8100, anyway) for a total of $39.99. Of course, do the math for the 5500. The offer for the rebate is over on Jan. 4th, 2004.

Hope this helps. I wasted 2-days of my weekend just figuring all this out...

Ta, all. Must get to sleep.... :moon:
