3589i can't make voice call with AT Cmd.

I am using a DKU-5 cable between my XP computer and Nokia 3589i CDMA cellular phone. When I try AT+D5551212; to dial out it will only dial a data call. The dial out works, the phone on the other end rings, but when I answer, there is no audio, no voice. After 30 seconds or so I get a NO CARRIER prompt on my AT interface (HyperTerm).
Duting the call the 3589i shows it is in a data call "Sending >>>>, Receiving <<<<<".
What do I need to do to get voice to work.
