notnomis, I am not sure why. You might try restarting your phone. Is it just MP3s that your phone won't play, or any type of file that you upload to your phone?

kelli7968, I don't know why the files are bigger. I've noticed them being bigger also, but truethly I don't care. Right now I have just under 5 megs of MP3s uploaded to my phone, and haven't had any problems yet with memory. I also don't know how to convert to mono, I just leave them as they are, since it is less work for me and it works.

Posted by: notnomis

it will upload and play EVERY Mp3/midi that I sampled from soundforge (trial version is expired). It will upload and play SOME of the Mp3/midi files sampled through Audacity.

Tried powering off and on as you suggested, No go.

any ideas?

Posted by: dark96

KLH i have mobile music polyphonic, will that be able to do the same thing?

Posted by: paris playa69

i was wonderin if you can do tha same thing for other phones, such as the samusung a530...can u still d/l soundforge buy a data cable and transfer the mp3s to that phone or can u only do it for tha lg6000?(aka is the a530 capable of playin the mp3s) thanx for any help

Posted by: getsmacked

Is there any possible way to make the ringtone louder, mine are incredibly low. please help.

Posted by: brunymc

I really want to try this out...the mp3 thing..but i downloaded the Sound Forge but was not provided with a serial number..and every site i go to seems to think i should have been...anyway..can anyone give me a serial number that i can use?!?!?! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE

Posted by: travbedaman

I didn`t read this whole thread so I may not need to write this, but the music editior program "Goldwave" . It is far superior to Soundforge, I`ve had a traial version for quite some time and I`m still using it...so I don`t know if I have a cracked version or what but you can convert to mono and do just about whatever else you want.

Posted by: HyToFry

I could not would not should not get this to work with my vx6000. Finally I read some fine print on bitpim.sourceforge.net's website...

On Windows, you will be unable to use com ports greater than com9 (eg com12). You need to change the portname to be \\?\com12 (with the correct number as appropriate). BitPim 0.7-test6 onwards do this automatically.

Mine was on com11 (a lot of my com ports get eaten up by bluetooth's ports).

Works great now. w00t.

HEY!!
I am about to get my new lg vx6000 phone for us cellular and i was wondering if this whole process of using bitpim and transferring ringtones over using a cable provided by the us cellular store would work. i would really appreciate any helpful from any of you knowledgeable people!

Posted by: EPappas

Does anyone know how to change the file from a .wav to a .mid file? I followed all the steps in the tutorial and I wasn't able to do it? PLEASE HELP! THANKS

Posted by: EPappas

I finally got the tone to go onto my phone but nothing plays. The tone was written as a wav...Could that be why? How can I change it to a .mid? When I go to customize and look for .mid at the end I can't find it. Please help! Thanks

Posted by: JTRipper

first question.. what version of bitpim are u using?

are you emailin the ringtones?

what phone?

what version of windows are you using?

these questions will make it a lil easier for me and others to help post an answer.

in general to change the extension of a file from... SONG.MP3 to a .MID file is easy.

make sure your you follow the process listed to be able to change the extension as listed in this thread.

as for ring tones not playing.. there are two answers..

one.. if using bitpim 6.2 for the 6000 you must save the ringer as a mono ringer and in mp3 format. ( see ring tones for dummies just search for it in the threads)

2 if emailing the ring tone it must be under 30k for a 6000. if emailing to a 7000 it can be up to 100k. 30k = 15 secs and the file must be in .MID format and mono.

epappas- save it as mp3 then change the extension to mid if emailing it.. tell me what your using to transfer the ringers to the phone that will help me in explaining how to do it.

Posted by: EPappas

I'm using the usb data cable to transfer the songs. You figured it out for me...I was saving it as a .wav instead of an mp3 on the sound forge...I just tried it as an mp3 and its working. I have the songs on my phone...and they're playing words. That's okay right? Not bad for the phone or anything? Thanks a lot. You're a real help...yesterday was so frustrating not being able to get them on!

Posted by: dabomb7612

Whenever i email my mp3 as an attachment to my phone, it sends it fine, but my phone never gets it, does anyone know why it does this?

Posted by: JTRipper

dabomb.. when emailing... make sure of 2 things.. ONE.. the file size is 30k or less..

2 that the file is a MID and not an MP3.

those should clear up any problems. oh yeah.. and make sure that the mp3 you change to mid is in mono.

Epappas.. glad you got it.. its a good feelin when you figure it out isnt it? feels like IM KING OF THE WORLD!!!!! hahahah glad you got it..

i've tried to download the bitpim modded version from cowger.us but it isn't working..

in fact, i've tried going to http://www.cowger.us and it doesn't work period. please upload to another server or send a link where i can download the bitpim file from... thanks

Posted by: Mikebegood

When i hit add on the ringtones tab in bitpim it say thats the noly files for ringers have to be .mid instead of mp3. Any help is appreciated

Posted by: Mikebegood

My first post was not very good and the edit timer is up so i will try again. I have a vx6000, and bitpim v.0.7.14. How exactly do i convert mp3s to midis. I am practically computer illiterate. Becuase i can load midis onto my phone but not mp3s. Thanks for your help.
P.s When i convert the file to a midi does it still sound the same as the original song i.e has words???

Posted by: JTRipper

mikebegood

the version of bitpim that you have wont load mp3 to a 6000. why i have no idea. you want to use the version 6.2 that will load mp3s with out having to change the file extension.

if you want to use the version you have you can change the extension and it will play it words and all..the quiality of the file isnt as good as mp3 but its almost the same.

look for the 6.2 version. much easier to use.

Posted by: Mikebegood

download 6.2 but when i hit the ringers tab the noly file i am able to add is midis???
also since i seem to have a ton of trouble with mp3s does anyone have any detialed information on how to convert mp3s to midis
Any more help is much appreciated

Posted by: JessicaLynnie

exactly what version of bitpim should i be using for the 6000? i currently have the .62 version and whenever i try uploading my files to my computer OR sending files out to my phone i get this error...

also, for some reason, i was able to add the mp3 files last week, but when i went to play them on my phone, they had no sound and now i cannot delete them from the music folder on my phone.. any ideas how i can resolve these problems? thanks in advance

Posted by: Mikebegood

the ringers tab doesnt work sometimes try using the other methods

Posted by: JessicaLynnie

exactly what do you mean by 'other methods'? also, am i using the right version of bitpim..?

Posted by: Mikebegood

use the method described in the second post of this thread

Posted by: JessicaLynnie

obviously i have the wrong version of bitpim seeing as it places the 4400 line in the code above.. i tried downloading the 6000 version from about page 2 of this thread and it no longer works.. anyone know where i can get it? i don't want to send the ringtones through my pix email when i spent $25 bucks on a cable.. makes no sense to me

Posted by: JessicaLynnie

after searching through some other threads, i found a link for a version that did download

Posted by: Ryan895

I was having the same problem. i can't find the right version for my vx6000. You said you found the right link...If you dont mind could i have that link?

this should take you to it

Posted by: dabomb7612

Whenever i send it as an attachment to my phone, it says attachmen dropped, can anyone help me?

Posted by: dabomb7612

ok, i just realized it was dropping it because i kept it in mp3 and not .midl, so then my next question is how do u change it to .mid???

I have the vx6000, I used the new program to put an mp3 ringer in my user/ringer directory on my phone... i restarted the phone, and when I went to 2-7 to check out the music, it wasn't listed... did I do something wrong?

Posted by: latrapeze

I used up all my free usage of SoundForge and need to turn up the volume on a couple of my ring-tones. Any ideas as to what would be the best program to achieve this with? I would prefer a Mac program but can work with Windows if need be.
Thanks and the initial posts were extremely helpful.

here are the detailed instructions:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...15&pagenumber=4

(LATRAPEZE) download a program called GoldWave and you can edit mp3s and wavs with it.

http://www.goldwaving.com/downloads/gwave508.exe

u will also need to download LameWin32

http://www.mp3-tech.org/software/encoders/lamewin32.exe

install those both and you can do what u needed to do before.

Posted by: bluesolarflare

I am not sure if this has been discussed as this is my first post on here...but the other night i did the *228 program thing on my phone since i was having problems and all of a sudden i can send mp3's that are larger than 30kb to my phone thru picture messaging. Thought it ends up in my mailbox and i can play it i cannot save it but its still there and I can preview it on my phone. Maybe I have a glitch on my phone or maybe it has to do with video messaging service cause i know that early on you could only do songs that were 30kb. Can anyone else confirm this?

Posted by: TyrantII

haven't seen it posted yet, so a question:

How many megs worth of MP3's can be loaded onto the 6000?

how much have you got onto it?

Also, my friend downloaded a voice ringer that says "you got a message.. aite?", so i assume it's mp3 or wav.

The thing is it repeats, and keeps going untill you hit the side button or open the flip. So it seems MP3's can be looped, contrary to what i've read up on. Anyone know programs that will loop them, or make thm loopable for the phone

thanks for any help

Posted by: JTRipper

tyrantII

the you got a message aight.. is from modtones. via get it now

you can make mp3s loop but only up to 60 seconds.

the 6000 cant hold megs of mp3s. 115k per song

you can loop your mp3 ringer but only the one part of it once it runs the duration of the mp3 you cant make it repeat.

bluesolarflare. you can send your phone mp3s larger than 30k but they cant be saved as a ringtone. you get the file to large error. 30k is about.. ooohhhhh 15 seconds.(and it wont repeat)

google bit pim 6.2 for the right download for the 6000.

well as i said, ive listened to that ×××× ringer go on for more then 10 min one time, so it either is told to loop, or it's been cut and pasted alot (but wouldnt that make it far too large?)

also there must be a limit in Mb or Kb to total memory allocated for all MP3's. how much KB or Mb can be stored with the use of the data cable total? Just trying to figure out how many ringers i can fit on using filesize.

I duno how computer smart you are, but when looking at the file in windows explored. do you see "filenam.mp3" or just "filename"
if you dont see the extension you need to do this

open you windows explorer select tools.
scroll down to folders options.
click on the "view tab"
and uncheck "hide file extensions"
click ok

now you should be able to right click the file and change your ".mp3" to a ".mid"

Alright, I got the official LG cable for the VX6000, and got both QPST 2.7 (build 91) and Bitpim 0.7.15.

Both worked fine when i used the drivers that came from the LG CD's and installed the phone on Com4 (it's USB, but it recognizes it as com4). Both programs worked, however, i could not figutre out on QPST how to upload a .mid (a real .mid) to my phone and get to to display. So, if anyone has a good tutorial on the directory structure used on QPST that would be a good post-and how to edit the data files...

...so I used Bitpim 0.7.15 and again, setting it up as Com4 it works fine. The .mid transferred over and rings fine (if you must know, it's a .mid of the A-team theme song). So then, i tried an MP3, but it has to be a .mid for Bitpim to recognize it--no problem, just rename it. From there, i tried as a test, a large one called "The Brimstone Gate" by Naglfar. That one didn't complete, and i had to disconnect the USB cable, but it did install the file in part and was playable, however, i had to reflash the ringtone directory using the PC stored version in Bitpim. This should be useful to you all--if something screws up, just try to replace the data on your phone with that backed up on your PC.

Using a shorter MP3 (the Monty Python's "Sit on my Face" song), it uploaded like a charm after renaming it to a .mid.

Further, for .wav to .mp3 encoders, you can fins some old ones for free that work awesome, like BladeEncoder--something i've used since the windows98 days. Also, for any type of soundclip that you can't play on your phone, you might want to try Winamp or a reasonable facsimilie to output it to a .wav, then encode it to .mp3, and then rename to .mid.

Sorry if this has been said before, but it can work if you know a little bit about your computer and basic configuration.

I have tried uploading a mp3 file that i converted to .mid
I looks like it transfered ok..but i can not find the file ANYWHERE on the phone, not in the media folder and the ringtone folder...some one help me out here....

Posted by: JTRipper

tyrant..

sorry..

that ringer must be done with in the hex or bin files.. cause the only way i get them to repeat when i make them is when i loop them..

perhaps because its from get it now and it is written differently than the mp3s we load. but no matter if you cant hear your phone in 60 seconds of ringer.. would it really matter if it rang for 10 mins?

First, what program are you using? If you're using QPST, i have no farqing clue how to do this.

For Bitpim 0.7.15, what you do is copy the file into the ringers tab, and then go to Data=>Send Phone Data and then select Ringtone. Add or replace will only matter if you're deleting files, but if you're just adding files, either will work. Then let it copy the data to the phone and Voila!

Hope this helps

I am using 0.7 bitpim....
i hit the ringers tab hit add then send data to phone click the ringers click box and ok.....
i see the green status bar go all the way across screen and then is says ready..

i have tried this liek 4 times and still nothing....

IT will only work if i do it on the 4600 though, if i try on any other phone like the 4500 the phone jsut resets as soon as i try to transfer.

Posted by: JTRipper

Toofastgtp
are you sending mp3's or .mid files? i think that version of bitpim doesnt see mp3's imnot 1005 sure of that. but i think it only reads .mid

Posted by: Toofastgtp

I first tried sending to that were renamed .mid then i tried a ,mp3

Posted by: Axe56

hey there folks

after much dismay, and about 3 hours of tampering around with .mp3's .wav's and .mid's .mp3.mid .midi .mp3.midi ... I've come to the conclusion that I suck... lol either that or I'm special and having issues with this.

I have bitpim .62 and bitpim 7.15, data cable, and LG VX6000.... phone and computer communicate just fine.

when I upload a file with any of the above extentions, to the phone in ringers tab, I get to see the file just fine in menu, 7, 2, but the phone never plays it...

I've tried many many things, including many different encoding speeds etc... anybody ever heard of this problem?

Thanks for the patience and advice,

~Axe

well that and a few beers.. ahhahahaha glad you got it

My free trial of sound forge ran out. When I re-downloaded it it now asks for a serial number. What to do??

Posted by: Axe56

I use sound forge to resample and change the sound file to mono... I then save it as a .wav file and use Audacity to open and save the .wav file to .mp3... this creates an extra step, but avoids using up all of your mp3 "licenses".

as for the free trial, if you're computer literate, you could run regedit and remove the registry keys for sound forge... otherwise you need to either a)buy sound forge or b) aquire a key or c) use a different, free program.

good luck.

Posted by: Yodawg

Without a cable, what about just going to Verizon's site and attaching the MP3 to a text message (file send)?

Posted by: Axe56

I belive verizon restricts file sizes to 30k or less... so that would work for shorter ringtones... but nothing very long unfortunately.

I'm sorry you feel that way. All my songs are mono 96Kbps @ 32000khz. I've never had a problem with any of them.

In fact, the only problem I've ever had is that my phone would take extremely long to reboot. Along with my ringtones, I had an entire song on there, just to show off. Once I took that song off, I didn't have any more problems with the rebooting time.

its quite easy to get a key online, i found one in 5 min!

as for length, same here, all i see is long reboot times (as its probably checking memory). Some kid told me he has close to 3 megs of ringers on, so atleast we know that much so far

I'm not really sure why you'd try to take it there. I'll forgive you this one time, as everyone's entitled to make mistakes. Don't let it happen again.

I tried a bunch of different variations, but I was very unhappy with the quality at those lower bitrates. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I think my phone will be just fine. Good look, homey.

Posted by: vols

can you add mp3 ringers to a vx7000 like the tutorial says?

Posted by: kdanieli

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Will this work with vx4400?

I had BitPim .61 before and it worked fine.

Now I got BitPim .62 as required in these instructions. Now BitPim cannot find my phone. It shows that it should be on Com4 and that doesn't work. (When I had .61, I never even set the com port...it just worked on auto.)

What's the deal?

Posted by: StudMuffin

Bitpim says the file is too big and needs to be at 64k!!!! I've done everything the tutorial says at changing to mono and 32kbs and whatnot, but it doesn't work. Whats wrong??????/

Posted by: StudMuffin

and on top of what i added, i took tiny 1 second files and renamed .mid, but when i send through Bitpim it says no such file. im using version 0.62. and someone please answer, someone else needed help wit this but it was ignored. thanx

Posted by: jojo82

i did everything as the tutorial say but sound forge puts my song as wav format
and i have a 32 sec song and it is 5.4 mb

what do i do at this point?

also i need my ring to be midi cause i want to put this on my dads fone which is 4400

so please help me

Posted by: Mike4

Get a free program called dbpoweramp music converter - www.dbpoweramp.com. You can convert the wav to mp3 and also choose what quality mp3 you want it to be. Once you have it in mp3 format, rename the file as .mid instead of .mp3.

---> xxxxxxxx.mp3 becomes xxxxxxxx.mid

Posted by: BadMeetsEvil

I read through this whole thing, and I didn't see any mention of the 7000.

I bought the Data Cable for the 6000 and I have Bitpim for the 6000, but nothing works for my 7000. I thought maybe it would work seeing as the 6000 cable fits into the 7000 (With alittle help ).

Anyways, How can I get this to work. Thanks

AGAINST THE RULES

Posted by: Lenahan2001

Hello,

Wow I am surprised to see just how much people have used my tutorials. I haven't been back on these forums for probably 6 months or more.

I still have my VX6000, but I am looking into the VX7000 but I've heard some bad reviews about the phone. We'll see. Whatever I get I will surely post tutorials for that one.

Just glad to see that so many people have tried my methods of getting mp3s on their phones. I have as we speak 15 mp3s with an average length of 60 seconds and one mp3 which is 3 minutes 48 seconds long and plays just fine.

Thanks for all your support!

Regards,
Ryan

I am new to these forums and just recently went to the darkside... I purchased my first cell phone last weekend . I would also like to give Ryan and the others many thanks for the information found here and for the time spent to help other people. I was able download (w/USB cable) MP3's with little trouble to my new VX6000 and am now the envy of all my friends who want there phone to do what mine does.

Many thanks

Posted by: thepolishlad

I recently purchased the VX6000 and am loving all of the cool features, especially the mp3 ringtones that I have on there now thanks to the tutorials in these forums!

Here is my question:
I've been trying to figure out how many MB of mp3s I can get on the phone, and I've read through this whole thread, and searched other ones on here to find out how much the VX6000 can hold. One person in this thread posted that they have 5 MB of mp3s on their phone. Does anyone know the maximum amount one can have?

Also, I have my mp3s at 96 kbps and 44.1khz. Is that too much for the phones speakers to handle?

Thanks for any responses!

Posted by: JTRipper

max ringers is 20.. @ 32k , 22050.

more than that you compromise the phone.

not sure about the memory of the 6000. but 20 is pretty much the limit.. i had long ones over 30 secs and the phone would freak out..

so i took them down to 30 secs and under and only kept 20 and it worked fine

Posted by: Copan

Yeah....I also did not reduce the quality of my MP3's and they are working fine at the moment (I only have 3 @ 30sec each). I am also aware of the recommended kbs and mhz settings above. Is it a proven fact that if the quality is not adjusted to these "recommended" settings that the phone will experience problems? I have played a bit with reducing the quality but my sound becomes too distorted to use. Do other people that have reduced the settings retain decent sound sufficient for a ringer?

Thanx...

Posted by: JTRipper

not a proven fact about the settings..

i know that on my old 6000 when i had long songs and over 20 it would shut down for no reason and act odd with text and pix messages

i tried some other settings and depending on the song.. and the genre.. some rap songs with bass seemed a lil better at diff settings. but the settings seem to be just an avg. so to speek

I just got the same exact data cable and am having the same problems - I keep getting this error message from BitPim: "Failed to auto detect the port to use. I couldn't detect any candidate ports"

any info from anyone would be greatly appreciated

*EDIT*
With a little internet sleuthing - using the web page thru bargaincell - I found a support page: http://www.futuredial.com/support/s...ups/group43.htm

This page will walk you through installing the driver to the correct port

basically you need to have the mini cd driver installation disk in the drive, then right click on my computer, go to properties, click on hardware tab, click on device manager, then click on the plus sign next to ports. Double click the last port(should say something like unrecognizable device) It will walk you through installation from there

Hi,

I converted a wave from a CD into a 16bit 8K mono mp3 and transfred it to my phone using BitPim. The file shows up on my phone in the list of availble media. however, when I select it as a ringer it does not make any sound. I even transfered it back to my computer to make sure it was still a valid MP3. It is and it plays fine on my computer.

I followed the instructions on http://home.nycap.rr.com/stopcbt/vx6000.html#mp3 to a T

I also cleared out a lot of space on my phone

The MP3 is about 29 seconds long.

I have an LGVX6000

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Posted by: JTRipper

16bit 8K mono mp3

wont work..

make it 32bit 11050,

that sould take care of it.. try that if it dont let me know.

NEWS:

I am selling my VX6000 for my new Nokia 6620 that I just purchased! Anyone need a used phone? Let me know...

I will try to become more active on these forums in the following days and months, and I am trying to get the admins to make me a moderator. Has anyone does this with a vx6100? I tried downsampling a 250k mp3 to a 2250 32k mono that came out to be around 120k, renamed it to a .mid and emailed it to my phone... It recieved it fine but it couldn't open it saying content audio/midi is not supported or something along those lines

I can't figure this out...

Posted by: JTRipper

chosen...

ive tried with the 6100 as well seems its the same as the 6000.. files that are emailed must be small.. like 30kso that means your ringer can only be like 15 seconds long if that.

try sending it a file thats only 10 seconds long at first.

until the cable comes out thats the best your gonna get.

Hey I'm sure someone's already asked this in this thread...but clearly the thread is too long for me to search for this problem I'm having.

I followed the instructions...all the instructions I could find to make mp3s for my phone...and everytime I do it...I can't seem to cut down the size...I mean I resampled trimmed converted to mon bla bla bla...in one case...my cropped mp3 became bigger...I don't know what to do.

I don't think I have a wrong version of soundforge...I have 7.0...but it seems the instructions tell me to go to "bit rate" "convert to mono" but in my program it says "bit depth" and in my program I can tweak those attributes one at a time. ahh help please.

Posted by: RoySoy

Ok I think it has to do with the Format I use in the "custom" tab under "Save as"

Currently it's set to default as "PCM Uncompressed" I'm guessing this is the problem? other options are "AC-3 ACM Decompressor" "IMC" "MPEG Layer-3" and much much more..

Posted by: RoySoy

Ok I also see in under "Resample"

there are some options such as "apply anti alias filter" and the "interpolation accuracy" ...is there a more comprehensive set of instructions or is this it...'cause I just managed to cut down a file to 30 secs...but it's still over 2 megs in size. I'm so confused.

Get a free program called dbpoweramp. It's a very simple tool that will allow you to convert music files.

Prior to installing MP3’s onto your LG VX6000 phone you must have the following:

1. A USB Data Cable For your phone with the correct installed drivers. I would highly recommend that you buy .................................................. .......... automatically..................................... ......................
45. Click on “Set As” to set the ringer as “Caller Id” or “Restricted”
46. Your finished!

Note: Your phone will handle 20 ringers max. There are other methods of getting mp3’s to your phone, but this was the easiest way for me.

Let me know if this tutorial has worked for you.

Excellant job sir. And you didn't even warn us to change the .mp3 extension to .mid (which of course Sound Forge cannot and will not allow, as you have in your steps created a sound file and not a midi file).

Now, is anyone game to post the instructions on how to create the proper size and type (0 or 1) midi file that we can load?

I don't think that changing a mp3 file to a mid file by simply renaming it is going to work - as a matter of fact, I know it doesn't work.

However, I am willing to make an exception in that, if the OS of the 6000 phone recognises the extension of .mid as the only valid type for any of its sound files and that the running software in the phone interprets the file correctly (no matter, in this case, what type the file really may be).

Let me explain: Since I know we can download MIDI files (with the .mid extension) and MP3 files (.mp3 extension) into the LG VX6000 from online sources, then it is reasonable to merely assume that laoding these same file types via a cable will need to stay intact - just as they are when downloaded from the net.

I hope you agree.

Uncompresse = as large as possible (given the format).

Be carefule in Sound Forger, yoiu can save a file as a 64bit file - now that's fricken huge!

Just follow the instructions that the 47 step program has - you can not go wrong.

The only minor mistake was that almost any sample rate (equal to or below 22khz) and any bit rate (below 17 of course) will work. But it must be made MONO - that is crucial as well. Making the file mono will basically cut the file size almost in half !
However, increasing the volume will increase the size. I use the "Normalize" fucnction - after I apply a wee bit of "compression" of about 6:1 ratio which is good for most music.

i've read through some of this thread, but i don't know if the answer i need is buried somewhere in the 20 pages.
i used to be able to get ringtones to my VX6000 w/o a cable. all i did was send an e-mail to xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com and attach the midi file of the song i wanted. the only cath was that they had to be under 30kb i believe. well, i got the s/w upgraded and now i cant do this anymore. is this a known bug with the older s/w that they fixed, or am i doing something wrong. my current s/w ver: T60VZV08
the error i get when opening the picture message with the midi file is this:
"Unsupported content
type
application/octet-stream Fade_to_black.mid"

Posted by: JTRipper

shadow...

i had that problem too.. some song names are too long.. make the name shorter and see whut happens..

Posted by: shadow_horizon

SOLUTION: before sending file to phone, manually edit extension on file from .mid to .midi

i know, i know.....

still trying to get around the ×××× 30k barrier

Posted by: JTRipper

ummm...

.mid is midi....

no need to change it.. to MIDI..

if its .MID its in midi format

Posted by: shadow_horizon

i'm tellin ya - i did everything the same. when the file extension was .mid it wouldn't accept it. after i changed it to .midi and sent the same file again, it went through no problem. i had this problem with every ringtone i now have on my phone. they all work now, only after i changed it to .midi
i know, it doesn't make any sense to me either:rolleyes2

no you cant put a ringer longer than 15 seconds with out a cable.. the phone wont store it.. no more than 30k is allowed to be stored as a ringer./

so, what you're saying is that the data cable bypasses the 30kb limit for ringtone files? if so, i'm buying one today!

Posted by: X Thrice X 08

ok how do i get a 15 min. ringtone with out a cable?

Posted by: JTRipper

shadow- buy the cable.. download bitpim and soundforge.. your set for 30 sec ringers... no more than 20 ringers though.. more than 20 messes with the phone..

thrice..

go to www.vzwpix.com and register there.. you can send 15 sec MIDI ringers to your phone that way. now 15 secs is a guide. the phone will only store it if the ringer is less than 30kb,

just follow the instructions posted here on how to convert the song to midi. and then send it from the web site

Is sound forge software free? I went to the Soundforge website and it costs 399, am I looking at the wrong software?

sound forge offers a free trail version that allows you to decode 20 mp3's

i cant tell you other means of obtaining a full retail version.

you'll have to look for that yerself. or pay the 400 bucks

Hey, I'm new to this, but I've done some stuff to my phone already. Uploaded new ring tones and Wallpapers and edited some banner stuff. Thanks for the great Tutorials!
Thing is though, is there anyway I can have my Vx6000 ring my mp3 ringtone at med volume with Vibrate ON? instead of High and vibrate. If I do high and vibrate the songs sound pretty bad.
Any help? Thanks.

I was a doof and bought a cable on Ebay that came with no software or driver. The seller confirmed with me that the Futuredial software is compatible, but I have been unsuccessful finding a driver for this cable. It's the datacable for the LG VX6000.

Does anyone know of a place I could download the driver from? I went to futuredial's website, but it had no specific driver for my phone. Could anyone post the driver somewhere, please?

Here's a link to the auction...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

If I have to, I'll buy the correct version of the cable with the software, but if there's anyone that can help me out with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Posted by: guiltytoo

I have a generic cable that I bought on ebay as well. However, mine came with a software disc.

- Send me a PM with some sort of chat client that you use and I will hook you up with an ISO of the software that I have - its about 11MB -

That goes for anyone that has a generic cable for a vx6000

Does anyone know if this works with the C1300?

Posted by: madskillz281

hey guys, i didnt get the cable from accesorygeeks.com because the site someone told me to buy it from was different and was before i got a chance to get to this tutorial. as a result, they did not send me the proper driver for the usb cable, but it appears to be the same one as the one on accesorygeeks. i was wondering if anyone could show me a site or send me the proper drivers. i dled the prolific drivers but whenever i try to connect to my phone bitpm keeps saying 'busy' and then the 'device needs attention' which according to help means that i have driver probs. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Just to let yall know, 64kbps bitrate MONO sounds the absolute best on the VX6000. Gotta have the mono or you are missing out on some of the audio variations.

I hav found Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to be the best program to cut and chop songs, convert, fade and all that. Download CEP2reg.exe from their website and then use this information to get the full version:
Name: Peter Quistgard
Serial #: 200-00-37YQOQ7L

Posted by: dvntsvnt

I've been using iTunes on my Windows box to encode MP3's of various bitrates and song lengths to a 64 bit mono, at 22.050 sample rate.

Edit --> Preferences.

Importing Tab --> Settings, Custom.

Stereo Bit Rate: 64kbps
Unchecked VBR
Sample Rate: Auto usually defaults to 22.050
if your bit rate is 64 kbps
Channels: Mono
Stereo Mode: should be greyed out
Smart Encodeing Adjustments: checked
Filter Frequencies Below 10Hz to get rid of white noise

OK!

Now, to adjust the lengths of the songs, right click (Apple users hold down CTRL and click the title of the song) and select Get Info.

Options Tab should show a Start Time and a Stop Time. Adjust accordingly, select OK. (You might have to do this set a couple times to get the timing down right.)

When you are happy with it you can right click (CTRL click) the song again and Convert Selection to MP3. iTunes will encode the song according the lengths you in put and file it according to the above parameters.

Then select your favorite method of transferring your files to your phone. If it doesn't go straight from iTunes via drag and drop, place a copy on your desktop and drag and drop it from there instead.

Hey guys 'n gals, I'm a new phone owner, and new to this place -- I'm impressed with it all!

I'm using BitPim 07.28 along with Mac OS X (10.3.8) and things are moving along nicely...

However, when I set up my MP3s via iTunes and load them into my phone for testing, when I select the song in question I don't hear a song, but instead kind of a "static silence." Does that make any sense? Something along the way must be off... Any suggestions?

Posted by: JTRipper

laslow...

if i understand you.. your uploading songs from your ipod to your comp then your phone?

what phone are you using? 6000?

sounds like you need to have it set at mono 16 bit 22,050 mhz.

that would fix it i bet.. are you using sound forge? and how long are you making your ringers?

Posted by: Laslow Panaflex

I have been using iTunes to downsample my standard MP3s into something that fits the specifications for cell phone sound files, in this case, the LG 6190. I believe I read somewhere that I'm not supposed to go over 160k in file size, otherwise the phone will reboot if that file is selected. Sure enough, I found that out first hand. Hehe! I've used clips that are exactly 30 seconds as well as a couple that were 23 seconds. My understanding is NOT to go over 30 seconds...

The odd thing is, I have been able to download files that are advertised as MP3s (that's the extension, at least) from other sites and upload them to my phone -- they playback just fine -- yet when I create my own there are two scenarios:

1. No sound is played back when the file is selected on my phone.

2. I can hear "dead air" playing back, almost as if nothing has been recorded.

I'm using BitPim and going into the file structure area, creating a subdirectory (and naming it based on the song) with a new file being place inside that directory, with a name of just "body".

I've opened these working files that someone else has created via iTunes to "look under the hood" and try to match up the specifications when creating my own, with no benefit.

I think the next issue has to do with file extensions. Even though I'm renaming the newly created iTunes file (within the Finder, as well as through "Get Info") it appears to maintain some connection to iTunes -- the document icon remains the same. I wonder if this is where the problem lies?

Posted by: JTRipper

6190? i dont know that fone...

but if its anything like the 6000. it will read and play mp3's and mid files.

the main thing is this..

MONO....

16 bit

22050 mhz

those 3 are the most important.

the 130kb... thats ok.. but your correct 30 seconds is a good start when the file is those things ive listed it should be right around 120k.

i would use sound forge or something like that.. look for cracks and what not

Posted by: Laslow Panaflex

Here's an update on my situation, using the LG 6190 with Mac OS X 10.3.8, for those who may be having similar troubles.

I've used every MP3 encoding setting as suggested here and other places on the 'net in terms of exporting a song from iTunes, and in every instance (when I rename the file to "body" and upload it to the aproriate directory on my phone) I get "dead air" coming from my phone. This is not to be confused with silence, as there is a difference. Files that do not follow the correct routine simply give no sound back at all.

In any case, today I tried other MP3 encoding software for the Mac -- Audion 3 -- and was able to upload (BitPim) and playback the MP3 based ringtone on my phone! Sweet!

At this stage, I have to conclude that iTunes is doing "something" to the file that is giving my phone problems in the playback phase. What that is exactly, I don't know...

If/when I find out what the problem is, I'll post it here, but in the meantime, I would suggest users of the 6190 in the OS X environment use another piece of encoding software.

Either that, or tell me what you did to make it work.

ok well i am very new at this (i know nothing!!) and i was able to follow this! but i still have a problem.. i am able to download the ringer on my phone.. but it doesn't actually play the sound... ??? where did i go wrong?

Will these setting also work on my PM-325? and do I need the data cable or can I send the ringtones via SMS or Bluetooth? Thanks.

Posted by: Ironmanjr

Hi there,

I have not been able to get my cable to work - I purchased it off ebay and have installed all the necessary drivers - I can get the information from my phone into BitPim - I can use the "filesystem" tab and it will retrieve all the information from the phone - however when I try to "get phone data" or "send phone data" - I get an unexpected error message in the log tab and I don't know what I am doing wrong - does anyone have any suggestions? I really need some help!

Cheers!

JR

PS - Sorry I have a Telus LG 5450 phone - so similiar to the LX6000 I believe (that is what the settings have been set too - and I know that it is hooked up to the right COM).

Hey all...

Wow, after finally coming back to the forums it is pleasant to see that this thread has grown soo much! I'm not even going to attempt to answer any of the post here as it would take me 3 years..lol

Anyways, I'm back again...looking for my next phone! Still have my VX600, don't use it, so I'll probably just sell it.

Hello Lenahan and all,

I apprecaite the tutorial you wrote. I am new to this but i think i almost got it. I followed your tutorial completely and everything was fine until the final step when i tried to send the data (ringer) to my vx6000. It said that it could not detect a port or something like that. I have the USB cable but i am not sure if the computer is recognizing my phone when i attach the cable. I believe i need the USB driver for the cable but i cannot find it anywhere. Can you direct me to a download a driver.
thank you

I have used the method Lenahan2001 stated at the first of this post and it is great!! Now... can anyone tell me if there is anything like the "Sony Sound Forge" not so $$$$??? the down load is free, but it is a trial, and 300.00 and i can see i would use this for a long time.
Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

This detailed method using Forge worked great! Many thanks. My only question is concerning whether there is any difference if I used my 8100 with this program? I followed the instructions perfectly but got a rather low volume from the mp3 I used. Listening to the mp3 by itself sounded quite loud to me. I picked one out of my files that had a nice loud sound but I'm thinking the program lowered the volume somehow. Any thoughts with raising the sound level?

Thanks...

will this work for the vx5200???

Posted by: cueman

Will this guide work for the VX6100 also??
I don't know if carrier is specific, but I have US Cellular.

Can anyone help?

Posted by: TEN90X

I followed the instructions and my file sounds like a slow record when I play it on the phone.

Posted by: KlumpDud

Lehanan2001,

On step 33, I am stuck because it won't let me add an mp3 file. The only file type it will allow is .mid and so I can't continue.

cg294,

Following your instructions, I got the renamed mp3 to show up on my phone, but when I select it as my ring, it makes no sound.

In either case, I can't get it to work. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no way to make it repeat. However, if you really want the same effect of repeating, here's what you can do:

Use a mp3 editing program (such as mp3 cutter-joiner) to cut and paste the same part of the song over and over and save it as a single mp3. Then put it on your phone.

Posted by: carlos232

Thank you so much I think thats what I'll do.

Posted by: KlumpDud

Carlos,

You can use Sound Forge to do this, so you don't need another program. Just copy and past the part that you highlight.

Update to all:

You can GREATLY reduce the size of the mp3 file. When you get to step 26 in Lenahan2001's instructions, do the following:

Uncheck the box below that says "Save metadata with file".

After unchecking the box and saving, my new mp3's went from 100KB to less than 10KB

Prior to installing MP3’s onto your LG VX6000 phone you must have the following:

1. A USB Data Cable For your phone with the correct installed drivers. I would highly recommend that you buy your cable from AccessoryGeeks.com. I personally have worked with the company owner, and at one point was an official reseller. Checkout this link...

www.howardchui.com/bdatacablesb6.html

They include alot of extras on the CD, and they ship extremely fast, plus offer technical support
for free.

2. BitPm version 0.62. Free Download here…

http://www.cowger.us/bitpim-0.62-forVX6000-setup.exe

3. Sound Forge 7.0 Free Download HERE

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fi...ileidx,1,00.asp

Detailed Step by step process…..

1. Select the MP3 that you want onto your phone.
2. Open Sound Forge 7.0
3. Go to “File”
4. Select “Open”
5. Navigate to your MP3
6. Press “Open”
7. Sound Forge will open a 2 bar line display of lines going up and down.
8. Bring your mouse to the black line in between the 2 bars.
9. Locate the start point of where you want the mp3 clip to start.
10. Click on the start point of the clip and drag right around 30-60seconds depending on what you want.
11. Be careful not to drag over more than 80 seconds of MP3 music, because that MAY compromise your phones internal integrity. 60sec’s should be the most.
12. Verify that both sections of the music are highlighted. (It should take up all of the display area.
13. Press “Play” to preview what you highlighted.
14. Hold down “Ctrl” and press “T”
15. Go to “Process”
16. Go down and click on “Resample”
17. Set the “New Sample Rate to 22,050 Hz
18. Press “Okay”
19. Click on “File”
20. Click on “Save As”
21. Click on “Customize”
22. Click on “Convert to mono”
23. Click on “Bit Rate”
24. Find and click on 32kbps, 22050 Hz
25. Click “Ok”
26. Go to “File Name” and rename your clip with a short title.
27. Click “Save”
28. You mp3 clip is now ready to be placed on your phone!
29. Open BitPm V 0.62 ß must be this version
30. Make sure your phone is on and connected to you computer. All usb drivers must be already installed for the phone.
31. Click on the “Ringers” folder tab
32. Click “Add”
33. Locate you mp3 clip that you saved.
34. Click “Open”
35. Click on “Data”
36. Click on “Send Phone Data”
37. Click on the white box (check) to the left of “ringers”
38. Click on the “Add” button on the right of “ringers”
39. Click “Okay”
40. Wait a minute until BitPm says “Ready”
41. On you phone go to the menu.
42. Press 7
43. Then, press 2
44. Find you song and it will play automatically.

-Ryan

Any clue for V801SA?

Did you really need to quote the whole thing?

If you're using AUDACITY to edit the music files, here is some info on how to greatly REDUCE the file size for intended MP3 Ringtones.

Does anyone know how to reduce bass w/ audacity? I see bassboost...but nothing for reduction

Posted by: JenJen

I don't know if I'm missing something - my eyes are getting crossed now at like page 25 - but I already have the clip down to what I want thanks to sampling Amazon's songs - but when I try to upload it in BitPim a window pops up that asks me to convert then when I tell it to I get an error. What might I be doing wrong?

Wish it was as easy as it is uploading to my vx8300!

Does anyone know how I can get my old ringers out of my Samsung A940 that I just upgraded to Sprint Fusic?

Thanks.

I have no problem getting ringtones and wallpapers onto my LG 5450. But when I try to set them as either Caller ID ringtone OR set as wallpaper...it ALWAYS goes to the default.

I deleted all my wallpapers, and only left 2. One of the has 00 under column 08, the other has 01 under column 08. Only the wallpaper with 00 is able to set as my background. What am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem with the ringtones. I can upload them, play them, but when I set it as my Caller ID (or No Caller ID) ringtone, and call my phone, it plays the previous/default ringtone.

help?

I read like 30 pages of this, very good! thanks

Do you NEED the usb cable to transfer images/mp3's or can u just put the microSD card in ur pc/use a bluetooth dongle?

Thanks!

Posted by: TDurden

I have a VX8600, so this may not be relevant, but I strongly recommend getting a Bluetooth adapter for your computer if the phone supports it. BT has an additional layer of complication (you have to get the phone-BT connection right) but it makes life a lot simpler in the long run, as you don't have to carry a special cable for it.

Trying to add ring tones to my friend's LG 6000.
Using the correct version of Bitpim - but it's only letting me look for midi files.
Not sure if drivers for USB cable loaded properly.

Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!

will this method work for the LG VX8600 model?

Posted by: TheLt.

I have not gone through that last 26 pages of things here but...If it has not been asked...can we get something like this for the VX-9900
Thanks
Dan
