just got an LG G4050 and I love this phone but I have noticed that when I receive a call the ring starts out low and steadily gets louder, I tried changing the ring tone but they all seem to do this.
Is this normal or is there a setting that I am missing or is there something wrong??
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks,
- Eddie

Can someone who has the 4050 please reply to my post.
I switched out my phone today and it is still doing the same thing which is when I receive a call the ring starts out low and steadily gets louder, Is this normal for this phone?
Can anyone with the LG G4050 verify or deny this symptom?
Thanks.

I have a 4050 and I also have that issue with my phone. I have looked at all the settings on the phone and there doesnt appear to be any way to fix it.

Thank you for your reply jbeef86, at least now I know that I am not the only one with this problem.
I swapped out my phone at the Cingular store where I got it and the second phone has the same problem.
I wonder if LG designed the phone to behave this way or if this is just some sort of bug.
If it is this way by design then that would suck because it takes away from the quality of the ringtones I have downloaded to use with my 4050.
Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

I contact LG and this is what I received from them:
Voice (Receiver) and Ring tones (Speaker) are the same part. This has been designed to prevent from damaging ears as the call comes through.
This is one the functions that forced by USA spec.

If the ringtone does indeed come through the ear piece how would that do any damage to the ear?
When your already on a call the phone does not ring and instead you only hear a beep in the earpiece to let you know that there is another incoming call and if this is a USA spec as you say why is it no other cell phone that I have ever used, seen or heard of has this ascending ringtone annoyance.
If LG did give you this lame excuse then they are full of crap because that excuse does not hold water and it sounds to me like there trying to make excuses for their mistake.

Actually its not that uncommon. SonyEricsson phones do the same thing.

I can definitely see an advantage to an increasing volume on the ring tone. It would enable the interferance with other activities to be minimal.

I agree, though it should be an option. Ihaven't really noticed this with my VX6000 (I use voice ringers though...MIDI's maybe different). My SE T616 did this, though.

In my opinion this ascending "feature" is not an advantage because I dont see any use for it...If I wanted the interferance with other activities to be minimal I would put my phone on Vibrate which is what I do when I don't want to disturb others but when I set my phone on Loud such as when I am in a noisy environment I would like my phone to ring loudly from the time it starts until the time I answer it, I think I would be the best judge as to How I would like my phone to react with an incoming call and having LG preset the 4050 to ascending ringing on all incoming calls without having an option to remove it is just stupid!
This so called feature bites, I like to download several ringtones and alternate them as my ringer but with this ascending thing the ringtones all sound terrible.
Since I started using cell phones several years ago I have always hoped to find one that suits me perfectly and until I discovered the ascending ringer on this phone I thought the LG G4050 was the one but appartently I was wrong.
If a Cell Phone Manufacturer is going to include a feature for ascending ringers they should include an option to turn it off!

The volume doesn't seem to ascend when it's set to 'Ring & Vibrate'. At least that's been my experience thus far.

CeNG.......did you even check to see if what you posted actually worked???? Dude, I am here to say it doesn't. I tried all the vibrate, vibrate & ring, ring after vibrate nothing works. Bottom Line....STILL ASCENDS. It just pisses me off. Main reason it does piss me off is because there is a whole cycle of low ringing that I may miss if I am in another room and I cant hear it. Its likely by the time I hear it I missed the call. I just wish LG would have left this option on the users end experience not the company determining that I want this ascending nonsense. Otherwise I love this damn phone.

Of course I checked.
When I have my 4050 set to just "Ring", it does indeed ascend in volume, but when it's set to the 'General' profile and the alert tone is set to "Ring and Vib." I do not get ascending volume on incoming calls. I tried this with 5 or 6 of the default ringtones that come with the phone and it worked with all of them.

I wrote LG about the ringtone problem and this is what was returned:
Thank you for inquiring with LG Electronics. Your e-mail regarding the G4050 has been received.
This was the setting required by the carrier and can be changed if they request the change.
Feel free to contact us in the future if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

no way around it!

Hello,
My girlfriend has a Sony Ericsson. There is an option in the sounds menu called "increasing ring"; when it is enabled the phone behaves just like described in previous posts. The ring ascends in volume. Luckily, it can be disabled, so that the ring comes in loud and clear from the start. I was very interested in the LG, since I might switch to Cingular soon. However, if this ringing bug cannot be addressed I might just stay clear from the phone.

Hey Goldrake,
There is no where to change that ascending ringtone. There is no option in the menu system to fix it. It kinda sucks when you are in the other room and you finally hear the phone when its just about to go into voicemail. I am always too late. I like the phone but its definitely something to think about. For me Cingular service is nice and clear, not the same for everyone though. I just saw the new Motorola flip phone at the Cingular store and it looks nice. Sales guy said they should have it in a couple of weeks so you may want to hang on till then. Not sure about the battery life on it but it does have a camera and it looks cool. I may have to get one of those too. The only thing I worry about Moto's is that damn battery life though. Sorry to get off the subject................unless they come out with a software upgrading the 5040 and changing that ascending issue its not gonna change.
