Hello,

I am thinking about buying one of the siemens sl5x series of phones ...

I travel to Europe/Asia/etc occassionaly (1-2 /year) ... but I live in Toronto ...

Correct me if I am wrong, but the sl56 is 850/1900 and will be amazing in North America whereas the sl55 is a world phone ... RF is effectively the same ...

are there other differences??

what would you do if you were choosing between these phones??
how much is reasonable to pay on this forum??

Also, I have an unlocked V60g (that I can use when I travel) ...

Well, I think the only differences are colour, bands and restrictions.
I think that if you already have a world phone, go with the SL56 cuz they are cheaper.
The differences are
-SL55 comes in both Titan and Ruby while the 56 only comes in titan.
-AT&T and Cingular has restictions locked on them so that you cannot transfer ringtones, wallpapers, and other files to another phone. Only thing you could send to another phone are photos taken from your phone camera.
-SL55 is world phone(tri-band) and the 56 is north american like you said.

In my opinion, I find that the 56 is already good enough for me since I like the titan colour more, made for north america(unless you are on Fido that only supports 1900mhz) and I don't have any other phones to transfer stuff to.
BUT alot ppl go with the SL55. I can't help you on the reception oon both phones but the reception on the 56 is already pretty good(and thats only on 1900).

I'd say get the SL55.
It has a lot more options. I mean if you can choose between a really cool phone or one which is also quite nice...

thanks for all your quick replies ...

i went by a couple of phone stores in Toronto ...

these guys I know from school own a FIDO and mentioned that the CITYFIDO plan (unlimited $40/month) will be coming in either q1 or q2 2004 ... so it looks like it doesn't make sense to get the 850 phone b/c i'll probably be w/ FIDO in the future ...

looks like the sl55 ...

now i just have to get a good deal
