Guess there is a reason why the how-to has a part where it says to store it in a safe place.
I'm sure you can buy a new power button for not too much money from service.

Maybe you can go to your service provider and see if anybody has turned in any damaged units and sweet talk the shop out of stealing the power button off a battered unit.
