Is that a record?

I just it today from PCC (Personal Communication Center) in NYC. The guy's on 220 3rd Ave - phone 212-253-0800. Ask for Greg.

I got it new, nothing had been opened, US charger, english manual. This phone is the bees knees! W45 build from France.

Anyway, the final price was $600 for cash. But I had to sign up for a new T-Mobile activation.

Anyway, I told the guy I would pass on his info. Didn't seem shady or anything. Just my opinion...

doesnt really matter cos he still made $$$ on your a**.. the phone wholesales for well below $690 now and his commission is over $350+ with co-op as extra and considering he probably would never help you out with any technical problems ever (cos there is a 99% chance he probably doesnt know jack all about technology like the rest of the cellphone shops in NYC), i'd say he did pretty well for himself... making over $260 on a sale as complex as a P900 and never having to deal with any problems, i'd give him a hi 5 if i met him....

Posted by: mrloopy

Hmmm. Sounds like I'm in the wrong business. That's not a bad margin.

Saying '$600 total' sounds like you mean total - i.e. handset price PLUS the line rental for the year. That is at least how we calculate such things in the UK. What'll the line rental be over the year then?

Reminds me that you've still got a long way to go in the US to catch up with contracts here - £180 for my P900 total - that is, I paid £50 for the handset, and the £130 is what i'll pay over the year in line rental for a contract I'll never use (immediately unlocked my phone to use with my two contract SIMs from other networks). What's that, effectively $300 for a SIM free P900?

I thought you could get P9's for ~ $700-800 in the US now anyway, without a contract ('plan')?

You're about right. Unless you get a better deal from Ebay and take your chances the cheapest here (in Canada at least) is about $800 USD shipped.

Posted by: mrloopy

OK, OK, it's only good for those that are looking for new service and would have to take our a contract anyway...

Good luck with your new P900 and welcome aboard.

Frank

Bearing in mind that the Link do not clawback commission on Orange when you change down tariffs, even the same day as buying the phone, it works like this:

Orange YP700 (£70 per month tariff) P900 - £50
Change immediately to HSD tariff at £10 per month = £120 near as damnit (you might pay for several days of the £70per month tariff and several days less of the HSD tariff, depends on your billing cycle. Last time I took out an Orange contract i was able to specify when i wanted my billing date to be. If you ask for a billing date only a few days after the day you sign the contract it'll be no problem).

Thus your handset = £180. I removed all logos on day of purchase with the usual NV method, and bought a set of logs to unlock the phone for under £10 - so in actuallity you could say the SIM free handset cost me £190 Note that some jammy bastards have got the phone for free on this tariff at the link - £50 is the normal price, before you even try bargaining with them.

The only customisation left to say that the phone was originally on Orange is the startup/shutdown video, which TBH i can live with - though I'll have it flashed with the generic GSM firmware as soon as i get near my favourite service centre again!

are you sure you can downgrade your tariff so fast ??

because if you can i am going to get a P900 2morrow dammit.

i thought that if you downgraded you had to pay more for the phone ?

can you clarify that it would be about 200 with contract ??

thnx

Basically, Orange have no problem with you downgrading immediately. You can even now change your tariff online, if you sign up for the free online account service (though i called an operator on 150 the day after getting my P900 - again, no problem).

What will happen is, (if Orange can be bothered), they will widthdraw a portion of the commission that would otherwise be paid to the Link. The Link have no terms and conditions stating that you cannot change down immediately, so they cannot charge your card legally - and they never have with myself or anyone that I've conversed with. Note that UK online retailers generally state this clawback clause quite clearly, and thus are of course within their rights to charge yourself, as will (depending upon network & who you ask) Phones4U & CPW. The Link, and Orange retail stores, do not have such T & C's. Ask to read the full conditions before signing though, to check nothing has been added. A longterm Link staff member I know on another forum did confirm that no clawback clause did exist.

If you don't feel secure letting them have your card number, go into the store with £50 cash on you, and ID other that your credit card. That way, they won't even have a card number to charge, should they decide they want to. Basically it's an oversight on their part, or they have found that Orange couldn't care less and don't bother reducing their commission anyhow. I got my 7650 & P800 on Orange tariffs in Link store & Orange retail store respectively about a year ago, changing down to the High Speed Data tariff immediately - and neither charged me then.

but wont i need a CC for Orange ?? so when i do the contract they can take my number can't they ??

also where is the £10 pm rental ?? i can only see a £15 pm on the orange website

sorry for asking so many questions but this seems like a deal i would *LOVE*.

High speed data tariff (HSD) = £10 per month.

http://www.orange.co.uk/services/or...igh_speed.html#

Doesn't seem to list the monthly price on their website anymore, (was still £10 when i changed last week) but it's kind of a 'hidden' plan, that not many people know about. Phone Orange C/S and talk to them about it - some won't even have heard of it themselves, but insist that it is the HSD plan for £10 per month. Anyone can change to it.

It used to be absolute gold - you see, the HSD tariff actually includes free Orange care for your handset. If you don't know what that is, it is basically the best phone insurance you can have in the uk (same/next day replacement (even internationally) of same handset upon a claim, never any arguments etc etc) - however, they recently put a clause in that said Smartphones are not included. Now we would certainly call the P900 a smartphone - question is, do they? (Give example as the nokia 9210). I need to get on to the Executive Office to confirm this, but it's safest to assume that it no longer includes insurance. Note that you can buy Orange Care insurance for about £5 extra per month anyhow.

There it is, it's always been a 'business' tariff, but they never have any problems connecting individual users to it, nor do the Terms & conditions state that you must be a business.

Too busy Friday, but popped into store at Bluewater this morning. Guy was a bit vague about it , but I could not see anything on their terms & conditions. Anyway, they don't have any P900's in stock at the moment but will do in the next week.

Will let you know if I find anything else out.

just got home from The Link/Orange Shop/Carphoneware House and Phones 4 U here is what i got

Carphone said : they wont be getting it in on Orange at ALL.

Phones 4 U said : they have it on 02 but want £250 plus the £75 pm contract (and i have to keep it for 3 months) and won't be getting it in stock on orange.

Orange Shop said : they will be getting stock but it will be at least £250 on the £70 and £50 pm contract.

The Link said : they just can't get any stock of it at all so dont keep my hopes up.

so i diddnt get much info at all oh well.

Have tried Link online and they will not complete order as they have no stock. We will get one eventually.

Will try a company called contactphones.com.

just looked at there site and if we got it for £75 for 3 months then went to the £10 pm it would be a total of £300 that seems very good to me.
shame we can't do the downgrade same day as they say on there site that you have to wait 120 days.

Posted by: simion_levi

You need to try Carphonewarehouse again, as they've been doing it on Orange for as long as the Link and Orange shops! Still on their website too as being on Orange and (recently added) O2, plus I know people who've bought P9's from there!

Sorry to hear about the shortages - you tried asking Link to source one from another store and transfer it over for you?

I think that this stock situation is now a case with many dealers (including the online ones) across Britain. We must have cleared out the entire first batch earlier than they were expecting, unless SE have had problems keeping up manufacture. IF you don't wait for the Link/Carphonewarehouse (who claim to clawback 3months if you ask them, but have no T & C's saying that) to get them back in stock on Orange and order through an online dealer, I strongly suggest you phone that dealer and get them to guarrantee a delivery date if you order, so you know that they do have stock - people like OSPS (OneStopPhoneShop, sometimes ok, sometimes awful but definintely one of the bigger online dealers) are still taking orders for P900's, when they have no knowledge of when they'll get their second batch in stock - see the thread at esato.com about them, 9+ pages long.

If there truly aren't any left and you're having to wait anyway, you might think it's worth the little longer wait for www.smalltalk.co.uk (very reputable online Orange dealer, often good prices too) to get some in - £340 PAYG as soon as they get 'em, if you don't actually want a contract. A lot more overall, but I know some people don't like signing on the dotted line, nor are some people credit worthy anyhow.

BTW - just got my first P900 Orange bill through - cost me about £8 for the few days or so i was actually on the YP700 tariff, and then the £120 for the next 12months. I've been moved across tariffs correctly, as before. Total price is actually going to be £178, (plus ~ £10 for my unlocking fees last week) - which you can't argue with!

Posted by: Degeneration-X

this is simion_levi the link said they had over 60 people on the list for the p900 and the carphone warehouse said they wont be stocking the p900 in there shop (on orange)

i think the contactphones.com one seems good as for the first 3 months i will get 1000 min each month then i will drop to the £10 and it will come out at about £300 with 3000 min for the phone so it dont seem so bad does it ??

p.s to be truth the shops i went in SUCK big style i hate bradford shops, and i had to travel 12 miles just to go and ask oh well.
