I don't own a Nikon 885 and I don't really have any tips for you but congrats on your new camera.

It's a good one.

The Nikon Coolpix 885 is such an awesome camera... A lot better than what they have been making this year. Anyway, try out these sites for tips, tricks and reviews:

www.megapixel.net

www.dpreview.net (or .com, can't remember)

Best of luck.

thanks.

i frequent those sites a lot

i'm still learning the functions of the camera.

stuff like how do I set shutter speed and stuff.

Photography magazine has some cool tidbits once in awhile. I subscribed to them for a year since it was a free subscription. I learned quite a bit and the eye candy was awesome.

@snoopy20
which camera do you own?
and which magazine was it? "Photography" magazine?

I have a Canon A70...it's still a simple point and shoot. I'm saving up for something nice like a Canon G5 or maybe an Olympus...something that can contribute to my amateur photography hobby I guess.

Yes, Photography magazine... also if you can, get familiar with Adobe Photoshop.

A70 is a good cam, lots of manual settings and such right?

I'm hoping to out grow my 885 in 6months or 1year and move up to a 5400.

also, shutter speed is the same as f stop or not?

and aperture sets the amount of light coming in and depth of field right?
but what sets that in a digital camera?

For the A70, shutter speed and f stop are actually different settings. As for exposure... I am still an amateur. Still playing with my A70...haven't had time because of school and finals. msg me on msn (search for me with my email addy) I don't want to take up this post just you and me "chatting" lol
