Am I getting old

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I started using smartphone P900 at the age of 47. I think I am getting old because I usually fail to listen the sound alerts for calls and messages. Is the phone weak in making sounds or I am hard of hearing.

You're a young pup. I'm 51, sonny I can hear the sounds fine. Forgive me if this is obvious, but in Control Panel, Sounds and Alerts, there is a slider to adjust the sound volume, and of course, make sure you are not in silent mode Hope this helps. Jeff

Gotta chime in with Jeff here. At 52, I find the alerts loud and clear. In direct contrast with my now extinct T68i.

Also, you should go to control panel/device/sounds and alerts and change the notificatin sound for the specific alert you get....I have "You have a Call" for voice mail notifications and other Mp3 recordings for the respective SMS, MMS, Email, etc....If you can't hear these at max volume......you need to see an ENT doc....

Happy T-Day, Studio City neighbor.

Actually, my alert is loud enough to wake up the dead. My proof is it woke up one of my students who was catching a few ZZZZZs in one of my computer programming classes. Speaking of which, the concept of being able to write programs for these phones sure got my students'interest, though I am a bit afraid to find out exactly what kind of programs they have in mind.

Today might be a tough day to get to an ENT guy. So instead, Jeff, Mark and all -- Happy Thanksgiving.

Hope you heard that.

Personally, at my age, I also found the alerts sound pretty low also on both the P900 and P800. Just about most phones seem low to me so it may just be me, but the vibration helps in most cases. Try it out!

I am a puppy and the new fangled MP3, Poly ring tones are near inaudible in most external environments , still prefer old fashioned, beeps and rings in noisy places.

My ears are pretty good bcs I listen heart beats of others with unaided ears (without stethoscop). The volume adjustment does not work either bcs p900 says that if u choose multimedia files as sounds and allerts, your volume adjustment would not apply to these files. Moreover, the same media files play pretty loud when u play them with music player. I am new to these smartphones because at my age people usually remain content with old things . At the same time, I am encourage to see others around me. :laughs:

I edited two of my own mp3 ringtones using Sound Forge and they were LOUD. Actually had to tweek them down a bit so as not to overdrive the P900's speaker.

As stated in the P900 white paper, I cut off frequencies below 400Hz (actually 500Hz with Sound Forge), boosted frequencies around 4000 Hz, and normalized to about -8.5db RMS (my tweek, a loud normalization).

My favorite homemade ringtone right now is the beginning of DJ Hell's "Keep on Waiting" - here's a Real Audio link to the video...

http://www.motor.de/_ram/video/hell_keeponwaiting.ram

The song off the CD is even more twitchy and fluttering. My phone sounds loud and scary when it rings; people look up and turn heads.

I'm only 21....

I hate the musical ringtones that come with phones these days. I don't hear them when I'm out or they embarass me when others are around. I'm using the 'old fashioned' ring ring that came with the P900. Used the same one with the T610 as well. Mine phones are on silent a lot anyway, so it really doesn't matter all that much I guess.

Anybody try using the vocal ring song that came with the P900? ring ring ring....ring ring ring. I use it for laughs sometimes and it's the only other ring I haven't removed from memory. Seriously....what is the point of having people sing to you other than telling people your phone has AI or something when it tells you "you have a message".

i dont think there are many who are less than 21 that own a p900.
