Games for the NEC 525

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Bence8810

Hi

I am trying to figure out how to play other games with the NEC 525, then what is supplied at www.nechdm.com

I was looking into the issue, and actually the NEC 525 uses .jar files for the games. It seems to download a .jam file, as that is what you get in your sms from the nechdm.com as a link to grab the game, but all the .jam file is, a redirection, and some information provider. I paste one .jam file for you to see what I am talking about.

Jam file's content

AppVer = 1.0.0
LastModified = Thu, 29 May 2003 16:36:34
DrawArea = 160x180
SPsize = 23870
AppClass = BaseballEng
AppName = Baseball
PackageURL = http://www.nechdm.com/Media/games/live/BaseballEng.jar
AppSize = 13912
UseNetwork = http

You can see that this file redirects the phone to the .jar JAVA file. I have downloaded all those JAr files to my computer, and hosted it on my server, but when I point to it with the phone, it fails. Unrecognized page or something. So I created a .jam file, same as the one pasted above, except I rewrote the part where the file is pointed at. So I now pointed my phone to the .jam file, but it still didnt suceed. Same error.

I then recognised that when we get the link in our sms, it not only goes to the .jam file, but it has a weird format. I am pasting the link what you get in the sms here

http://www.nechdm.com/wireless/dg.a...BaseballEng.jam

If you point your regular PC browser to that, it says error, and if you wish to open it anyways, it shows a HTM file for me, that is opened by frontpage, and it says, this page can only be opened by NEC 515/525 or something like that.

Basically my qestion is as follows:

Anybody knows how to solve this? I am obviously not a big knowledged computer fellow, so I could use some help. On various sites, I can find .jar games, and I beleive they will play in the NEC 525 if we can find out a method to uploaded it to the phone. That .jam file might even gives the application the right size-format parameters, as those informations are included in the .jam file.

Any thoughts??

Posted by: Bence8810

So nobody has figured it out? I just cannot go forward alone. My knowledge is not enough I guess.

I now tried to send a .jar file to my mobile via email, but I cannot even save the attachment. It says, unable to save attachment. Weird. So it has to be downloaded somehow. I also tried to put a file on my server, and tell the phone to grab it the same way as it grabs from the NECHDM server. Which is, that there is a .jam file and a .jar file, and the link that points to the .jam file, is very long, and the beginning of the link, is http://www.nechdm.com/wireless/dg.asp?f=

and then the I put my address http://www.74bird.com/BaseballEng.jam

So the complete link looks like this

http://www.nechdm.com/wireless/dg.a...BaseballEng.jam

This method, i can download the game. So what I believe that the NECHDM site runs some engine, that tell the phone how to install and download, and after that the file can be drawn from anywhere.
Any ideas?? I am really stuck.

Thanks

--------------------------------------------

Okay. Now that I further tested it, it says when I download the game, that "Connection error, game has to connect to server when first started"

I guess it is a prtection thing. But I also think that other .jar files could be played, becasue they dont need any kind of authorization back from server when first started. This is Dwango's copyright protection I guess.

Any ideas??

Posted by: Blazers4ever

I noticed that NEC apps require that boot up screen with the option of using the network for installing the app. Perhaps you need to find that file and then include it with the .jar and .jam???

Posted by: Egorka

So, how do I save the games to PC first? What link should I follow? The one that I received in SMS from the www.necwireless.com?

Posted by: Lanzar

I am also wondering how to save the games to my PC.

Posted by: Bence8810

Well well. What about clicking on the link that I have previously posten in this thread?

Okay. SO the way I did it, is that you go to the NECHDM site, and click send to my phone or what. And this will send you a link to your phone. It is a long link, that first points to an "engine" and then to a real site, which is a .jam file. So when you get the link to your mobile, you take the second www address from it, which is in this example case:

http://www.nechdm.com/Media/games/live/BaseballEng.jam

You go there with your regular PC browser, and you get this:

AppVer = 1.0.0
LastModified = Thu, 29 May 2003 16:36:34
DrawArea = 160x180
SPsize = 23870
AppClass = BaseballEng
AppName = Baseball
PackageURL = http://www.nechdm.com/Media/games/live/BaseballEng.jar
AppSize = 13912
UseNetwork = http

From here, you copy out the link, which is the redirection, and point your computer browser to it. Then it will promt you to save file. The redirected link in this case is this:

http://www.nechdm.com/Media/games/live/BaseballEng.jar

Would you then mind telling us, how to send a game from PC to Phone? I think the part I have achieved was pretty easy, but I couldnt figure out how to send the files (.jar) to the phone.

Cheers

Posted by: Lanzar

Well that is odd, the game files don't show up when I use the memory editor... They did before I got my phone but now they don't.

Only pictures and ringtones do

Posted by: Bence8810

I dont have the phone now and nor do I have the cable, so I cannot test. BUt if you say, that the memory editor doesnt allow you to see those files, can you change the file extension to .mmf or .jpg and transfer, and then rechange it in the phone? Again, I dont know if it will work or not, just thinking out loud.

About getting the files to the PC. Did it work for you now?

Posted by: Lanzar

Yeah I got the file to my PC I will try changing the file extension now and see if that works...

Posted by: Bence8810

All right mate. Waiting for results now...

Posted by: Lanzar

No go, the memory editor doesn't recongnize it as a picture or ringtone file even with the extension changed...

must figure this out

Posted by: Lanzar

I am also wondering if there is a way to alter the memory editor program to allow you to send other types of files..

Posted by: Bence8810

Thought so.

That is why I started this whole thread. I got the files, but even when I put it on my server, I couldnt get to it with WAP, because the phone says, unrecognized website or something like that.

If you study the link, that you get in your phone when sending the link from nechdm.com, it has a .asp extension. I am suspecting, that that would be some kind of an engine, that we need to get a hold of. I know, we can get the games from them, but it botheres that we cannot override their protection.

Protection. I am guessing that is what that is. WHy would it need an "engine" to install programs? So that we will never use other apps. I wouldnt mind using a POP email app, as the built in one sucks out loud, as it cannot send outgoing email with 3rd party server. SO there are a few issues to go, and I am hoping, that we will figure it out soon. its too bad its christmas time, and we dont have that much time.

Posted by: Lanzar

I cannot get ANY of the games from them as I do not have mMode on my account and really can't afford to put it on there, so I really need to figure this out

Posted by: Bence8810

I am not a programmer, and I dont know much about that. I dont know how to override it's allowance. The problem is that not enough people have this phone, so the "human resource" we have is close to nothing, as opposed to Pana phones.

Posted by: Bence8810

Yes, that would be nice to know how to do it.

Posted by: Lanzar

I am sure someone will figure out how to do it, there are many smart people here

Posted by: Bence8810

..... and we are obviously not one of those.... lol

Posted by: Lanzar

I am really starting to consider sending this phone right back to AT&T... I thought they had fixed the quiet earpiece problem but this one has it bad, I may just get the Motorola MPx200

The asp extention is Active Server Page which is commonly used to run VB stuff so it doesnt have to be an engine but is most likely installing the game using VB scripting. Im not sure if nec will give anyone the source to this asp file with the VB scripting but it never hurts to ask.

Posted by: Bence8810

You obviously know more about this kind of things than I do.

So if we ask NEC, they might just give it out? I think, the whole purpose behind that we have to go through their on-site install protocol is that they dont want us to play around with this things, and use 3rd party games, and apps. Is there any way to get that asp script or source off of their website? I am not really good at this.

Posted by: Egorka

Could it be that all we have to do is to correct the link that is being sent to us as SMS every time when we chose "download the game" from their web site? I assume the proceedure od downloading game should be that easy. The only problem is that the link in the SMS to download the game is incorrect....

I dont really know much, I just know asp is used to include vb scripting on websites. If anyone downloaded games from at&t and can inform us if they handle it differently than nec then its possible to duplicate it some way. Im thinking if they make the only gateway for installing games they're most likely not going to just hand out the source.

Edit: Just tried to use their link with the game on my server and it didnt work. If someone can download a game from at&t and inform us of how they handle it there might be hope, otherwise, it looks like their gateway is the only way and it prevents off server input so were SOL

.jar is a compression format. I downloaded the .jar file for that game that was posted and it opened its contents in winrar showing a bunch of .class and .mld files.

.class is java extension, the reason its compressed is I think the limit for games is 32kb and the uncompressed files are just a little over 32 kb

Quote:
BaseballEng.jar - ZIP archive, unpacked size 32,395 bytes

Posted by: Shogun6996

Anyone figure this out yet? I just got the memory editor working. I uploaded some pics off my computer but I cant get games yet. Im also having a hard time finding decent ringtones. I am looking for normal sound effects (not songs those annoy me) but there are so many different types of ringtones.

Posted by: theturbanator

NEC uses the DoJA Java system thingy so normal java games wont work....only the DoJA ones

Posted by: Egorka

When you get a link received with SMS from NECHDM site, just click twice to the right and you highlight the link and would be able to go and download the game. The rest I guess anyone could figure out. I wish I had a manual for 525 included in the box.

Posted by: persianpunisher

Shogun, the same problem happened to me. Just reinstall java, and then teh .Jar files will no longer be compressions, they will be JAVA PROGRAMS! Hopes this helps

Posted by: Pali_Playa

re-install wht java program?

anyone making any progress on this?

So you say, that now after uncompressing it, you can upload it to the phone? With what method? I dont have the phone anymore. Personally I got tired of the E-mail and Camera problems. But I am really curious. I spent much time with trying to resolve this issue. I could also uncompress the file, as it is pretty easy. But I dont know hot to get it to the phone.

Thanks

After playing around for a bit and using a bit of common sense, the NEC525 is pretty much the equivilant of the japanese N504i series, and they use iAppli. So i went online and found a few iAppli games and apps and low and behold...THEY WORK. so yeah, nec525 uses DoJA so it HAS to use iAppli..not j2me

Posted by: Bence8810

Can you tell us how you uploaded them to your phone?

Posted by: Ver2

most japanese sites also have the iMode equvilant, so i just downloaded thru mMode

Posted by: Bence8810

Good job man.

Too bad I sold my NEC.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Ok here's a couple of DoCoMo 503i games that work with the 515/525. For the first one (called The Black Tower), scroll down to 503i and select it. For the second (found curtesy of Ver2) is a puzzle game similar to tetris called Baxa. Just input these in your mMode browser and your set.

http://www.apprich.net/appli/blacktower/index.htm

http://www.zoo.co.jp/iappli/pzl/baxa/index.html

Just added another:

http://funyamora.com/app/bubble2/down.htm
Once again, select 503i.

Hey guys!! I just found an RPG called Maze of Demon!! I'm downloading it right now.........

http://uji-ring.kir.jp/i/appli/rpg/dl.html

Once again, input this address into your 515/525 browser then scroll down to Ver 1.55. There you go.

Update: OMG it works!! An actual RPG for our NEC phones!!

Posted by: Bence8810

Hi

What is an RPG? I have no idea. Not even a vague clue.

Posted by: Blazers4ever

Wirelessly posted (ATTWS/2.0 N515i-10(c100;TB))

An RPG an acronym for role playing game. An example of this is the game Final Fantasy.

Here's another puzzle game I found:

http://www.tsuchinoko.net/yotan/porolith/porolith/

Scroll down to 503i at the bottom (ignore the 503i at the top).

neither do i, which means you spend 3 cents per kb, so if you know which one you want, just spend the little extra money to add to your bill for one month, and also, the only plan thats worth getting the mmode for is 7.95 i think a month, the one below is 2.95 and charges you 2 cents per k instead of 3 cents, wow what a nice deal right lol

Posted by: bayarearider

Is there a way to download the games and upload them to the phone with the data cable? That is pretty much why i bought the cable today.

Let me know

thanks

Posted by: bayarearider

Ok i downloded the games from the links you guys posted and they all worked. I was wondering how did you guys determine which games would work for our phones and which would not? I found a bunch of 503i sites, but am not sure which ones to try. Did you guys just keep downloading to your phone until you found one that worked?

thanks

Unless you can read kanji, it's trial and error my friend.

For sure 503i games work, and I have found that some 504i games work as well.

Please post those links......thanks.

Could someone put ALL the needed information and steps to get (and find) the games in one message?

Thanks

Posted by: rmMobile

I found these two sites:

http://helderman.hobby.nl/i/iappli_h.htm

http://www.ifrance.com/cheroki-computer/Games.HTM

The first one is a site leading to places where you can get games.

The second is a list of games from one of the sites from the first site.

Can anyone confirm that the games work?
