Nokia 8390, Ericsson T68

I have used them both, as my wife and I both got Ericsson T68s. I really liked this phone, I speak in past tense because I now have the Nokia 8390. First about the Ericsson T68, I loved this phone it was awsome I really like the color screen, bluetooth, and other functions, the voice recognition worked rather well for not using the hands free headset, the ringers could be a little louder, but they where best combined with the vibrate function. I used it to access the GPRS WAP function and found this to be easy to use and navigate. I didn't like text typing though it took to long to get to where you wanted to get to,but it was ok none the less. Now as to why I got rid of it. I missed to many calls, I got the messages that I recieved the voice mail but never heard the thing ring, and I believe that was all do to lack of RF signal, And I had to replace my wife as she dropped it from anout 1 foot off the floor and the battery clip broke. I barrowed the Nokia 8390 from the sales lady to check them out together, I had the Ericsson to where it had no signal and showing no networks, and the nokia in the same place had signal and I was still able to make calls. That was the deciding factor. It took the Ericsson a few minutes to register that it had signal after I went to my car, which is under a carport, and the Nokia held it's signal the whole time. The Benifits to the Nokia are the menu's, if you have used Nokias before you will have no trouble navigating with the 8390. As for the WAP function on it I haven't used that yet as I haven't had the need. I will continue to use the Nokia for the next few weeks and if things still don't get better signal wise where we live in town, I might have to try the new Siemens S46. Thank you AT&T and thier 30 day exchange program...

i have had hte 8390 for about 2 months now and love it. I was gonna keep it for a while until the t68 gets cheaper or something better comes out next spring. I was under the impression that most people found the rf on the t68 to be better than the 8390...i guess i made the right initial choice then going wiht the nokia as im a huge fan of nokia products and by upgrading you dont have to learn a whole new menu setup as it just keeps getting better and better!

So long live the 8390!!!!

I was told they where about the same when it came to reception. I figure I will waite untill the T68i comes out and maybe try one of those. and see if it works. Thank god all I have to really do is change the sim... Part of the RF thing I believe is the service provider, but as I said the Nokia held the signal better then the Ericsson. so I will stick with it for the time being...

I have the T68i now and had the T68m in the past. I also have the 8390 now.

The hands down winner for RF performance is the 8390. I am on VS in the Chicago area.

So does the T68i Get better signal then the t68, or are they about the same? If it's better then I might get one of those when they hit my area, if not I will stay with my Nokia..

I checked both out and ran them through several tests (T68 and T68i) and there is no real difference in the RF performance of either.

That kind of sucks, I like the color screen and all, but I also like to hear the other person I am talking to.. go figure... Ohh well I guess I will wait..

I have also used both the 8390 and the T68 and find that although the T68 is a bit weaker in the RF department, it seems to depend on your provider of whether it is usable or not... I live in Calgary, and the T68 always has more than enough signal to make or receive calls, but I can't speak for those in more poorly implemented areas.

Here are my pros/cons of the 8390 compared to the T68:
8390 Pros:
-FAST menus (I hear this improves in T68i, have yet to see)
-Multiple entries of same type per person (Parents have 2 cells for example)
-RF is slightly better
-Blue keypad looks cool

8390 Cons:
-Feels uncomfortable against ear (#1 complaint by far)
-Low earpiece volume (had to press aformentioned uncomfortable phone hard against ear)
-Much harder to change Op logo (T68-just send image, hit yes on phone)
-No Color (Surfing is sooo much nicer in color)

That's my experience anyway...

I like my Nokia 8390 alot, but I am looking towards the Siemens S46, I might have to take that for a spin for a month and see if I like it...

Here in Los Angeles, my friends Nokia 8310 has poorer reception than my T68i, but when we go further to the Inland Empire, that shifts for some reason???

wow you replaced your wife too?!!
what model did you get?
Sorry I know it's just a grammar thing...but I just couldn't pass that one up

Have you seen the new Motorolas out anywhere? (T720 to be more precise)

I have seen the TQC colour flip at Pacific mall ...it looks good, but I'm still holding out till I see the new Motorola T720 or a Samsung colour, flip with the camera that works on a "1X' system.
