What's the difference between JPEG fine, JPEG normal, JPEG economy, and PNG? What does PNG do? I can't tell the difference in image quality between these modes. Thanks for the help!

OK some rough info.

Generally the description gives you some clue to the quality of the image (though this may not be noticeble on the cam screen).

File sizes vary with each option:

economy usually 5K or less
normal 2 times that size
fine 5 times
PNG 6 times

These are guides only as file sizes vary a bit depending on image.

If you take the images into Photoshop its clear that the economy images are very poor and normal is only marginally better.

The resolution of the fine and PNG are better and very similar though contrast seems to be better controlled in the fine format.

Resampling the images to improve the quality, fine seems the best option though the quality is still limited.
