backlighting on the P900

Hi,
I am having a strange issue with the P900. I basically want it to work the same as the P800.
That is, when the phone is on the charger (particularly when I'm in a conversation), I want the backlight to be on all the time.
Right now, if I'm in a conversation, the P900's backlight is off even if it's sitting on the charger.
Turning the light to "on" (right now it's on auto) just keeps the light on all the time.
Any ideas?
