Hi all,

Firstly, I'm sorry if this is going over old ground but I'm getting desperate....

I've bought a gx10 and have no way of transferring pictures/ringtones/games between the phone and my PC.

Do any of you folks use these phones? If so I'd be VERY grateful for some help here, please!!!

I've looked on ebay and data cables are available (usb and standard serial). But the big problem is I don't have any software (apart from a german program I cant work out). There seems to be software for the GX10i but not my GX10!

Does anyone have any info/links to software for GX10????

Like I said before I'd be very grateful for any help!

Why don't you give it a try with the Gx10i softwares....

I'll try the gx10i version when I get the cable, but I've read on the net that gx10i software doesnt work with gx10.....

Anyone else got any ideas?

The gx10i version will not work.

On the following site there is a program to backup your gx10 (you need a data cable for that) and then extract the pictures from that file:

I've succesfully done this.
The site is in German though.

I've bought a serial (com port type, not usb) cable from ebay so when it arrives I'll try that software. I presume that is the right sort of cable?!?!?! (I hope :confused

I presume that is for transeferring from phone->pc?

Do you know of any software that does from pc->fone? (e.g. for java applications etc)

You're welcome.

It is the right cable (I use it and it works perfectly)

Haven't seen sw yet that can do the pc->fone transfer. What the sw does is make a backup of the phone memory and extract stuff from that file.

There is also an option to write the file back, if you can add a java game to the file and upload it..... so it is possible I guess, I'm not gonna try that though.

Know what you mean about not wanting to try doing the
pc->fone thing with unfamilar sw. Who knows what it would do to our fones!

Hope its ok if I just ask you a couple more questions!?

I've now got the cable but I'm not sure how to actually extract the .dat file from the phone itself.

I downloaded the program GX10Extract_V0.4_GUI (and the DOS version), and it appears with these programs you have to open a .dat file on your PC (that I presume you've already transferred from the phone). Am I right so far with this?

So do you need a separate program to get the .dat file from the phone->pc, before using GX10Extract_V0.4_GUI ?

I managed to use the program Telefonbuch_V1.1 for extracting just phone numbers, this works ok so I know the pc/phone are communicating ok.

You need sharpbackup.exe to extract that dat file, it's on:

It is in German though.

sharpbackup.exe: Das beliebte Backup Programm
Get the pictures from the phone: Hier die erwartete Software von Black-Shock ((auch ganz cool))

With these 2 dl's you can get the pictures from your gx10.

On http://home.arcor.de/th/thjakob/Sharp_gx10/programs/ there is a program (sharpextract) which gets other stuff like java out of the backup file.

I managed to get the phone to communicate and go into 'user data backup mode' but it takes ages for the software to go into backup mode, it says "Changing to backup mode" but thats it!

Is it normal for it to take ages or is something wrong??

Hi everyone

I managed to drop my GX10 yesterday and the screen has completely shattered

I've got 70 odd piccies on that phone which I'm pretty sure I'll lose if I claim on my insurance (will find out tomorrow from Vodafone whether or not they are capable of getting data from it).

I thought I'd try myself with a serial data cable and a copy of sharpbackup, but am having no joy getting the phone to connect to the PC in WinXP Pro...I have set it to the correct COM port (COM1), but with the phone turned on and with SIM in, upon clicking 'Recognition' the cable icon appears on the outer screen but an error message 'Timeout Error' appears on the PC.

If I take the SIM out and turn the phone off, I get the same error but a red light appears on the front of the phone.

Interestingly I can connect using Telefonbuch_V1.1 and it lists all my numbers so I presume that the cable is OK.

I have also tried to connect using Win98 and get a similar timeout error message using Sharpbackup.

Sorry about the long post but if anyone can give me any ideas I would be very grateful.

OK, I have solved the problem and backed up me piccies

In the end I formatted a spare hard disk, put a minimal WIN 98 SE build on it and changed the COM port flow control setting to 'none' and maximum speed to 38400.

Sharpbackup worked flawlessly!

Right, now when is the SE T630 coming to the UK highstreet? I wanna proper phone
