Where can I buy the S40 unlocked?

Hello. Where can I find the S40 that is NOT locked to any mobile service provider? I currently live in the US and I have Voicestream, but I will be living in Europe from early next year, so it's important that I can use the phone with a European service provider when the time comes.

Thanks for your help.

i purchased mine from
www.igogowireless.com
got it 1 1/2 days later
then sent it in for firmware update

might want to just buy it straight from siemens and save yourself some time
any firmware less than 3.2.0 has more than its share of bugs
according to many users.

Well right now, ALL S40 are unlocked. The only issue you may consider is the price. If you buy it in North America (through VS?) or any dealer, it may be quite expensive. Going through Siemens themselves is an option but it may be best if you actually purchased it in Europe. Which country will you be moving to? Will you be visiting there before you actually move there?

Hi !

I'll be living in Sweden. My fiance there already has looked atthe prices, and I was just thinking of looking here in the US for comparison. In Feb, it was impossible to find in Sweden (after some software problems were being fixed) but they had it in Belgium for about $500US. Now it's around $200-$230 with a Swedish provider...

Anyway, from what I see, I will be better off buying it in Sweden...I'll be there in 2 weeks. I have only been looking forward to this phone for two years when Bosch was developing it I have the Bosch 718 and I still love it, but the S40 looks sweet Thanks for the replies.

Well does anyone know if the S40 ships in the US, with the 3.2.0 firmware? My assumption is that they still don't and so you would still have to send it to Siemens USA to get it updated yourself!
So you can only get it cheap from the providers? I hear of people in Norway and Finland getting pretty good deals on them at normal shops, so why can't you? Either way, it will still be way cheaper than getting it from the states. It's selling in Asia (HK) for under $300USD!

PS. Please change to another avatar logo, that one's mine!

I chose the avatar not looking to see if it was being used already (didn't know they were owned actually)...anyway, my fiance bought the phone for me today so I will have it when I am there in 2 weeks.

Haha, i was just kidding. No one actually 'owns' them (cept maybe howard). I just enjoyed being the only one to use that one. You're free to use anyone you choose.

Hmm, now you chose Cake's! He's gonna be pissed! haha
