(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: shaolinmonk

cda 162004/14

i've tried with both now and still get

"Your operator does not approve the usage of this service for this device.

We look forward to assist you again soon.

Thank you for using Sony Ericsson Update Service! "

Your phone was originally provisioned to a Hong Kong carrier.

CDA162003/n Generic configuration file
CDA162004/n Customized configuration file

More Specifically:
CDA162004/14 P900/HongKong (Latin version)

so i'm SOL?

Posted by: rickpaul

You wont be able to upgrade the same time everyone else does. You might be able to once your provisioner gives approval to the newer firmwares.

There is an Unbrander for the P900. This lets you trick the update service into thinking you have a different CDA i.e an orange customer could change his CDA to 162003/5 to make it an unbranded phone. Then you can do the firmware and make it yours.

Its available from http://pure900.no-ip.com

After getting the latest firmware upgrade, my battery drains so fast. The battery was full last night and when I woke up today, phone was off due to low battery. I have never experienced this until now. Can somebody please help me?

Posted by: john99

Is it me or something with the SE update site?

I'm trying to get the firmware update for a P900 and it's taking a long time now.

I've tried with and without a firewall same problem.

How long does it usually take with a 3mb connection?

Thanks

I had also perform the latest upgrade since I had encoutered some problems with my bluetooth and IR connections last week. The result was that now I can't open the bluetooth and IR connection at all. To come to your problem, I also noticed that my battery doesn't last more than 10 hours max. It drains very fast, and the charging time lasts longer. It seems like there is something that is constanlty consuming power.
Anyway, I have gone to e SE service center and they said they will replace my device.

Posted by: john99

I tried it recently and it didn't work for me!

It said that my provider doesn't allow updates.

When I went back to the original .dll file, and tried an update again, it said there were no updates available.

I guess SE caught on to this unbranding and fix the problem rather quickly.

Hi,

Just wonder if anyone here knows what comes with the new firmware R5A09?

.

Posted by: bossboy

by unbranding my orange phone and updating the firmware....can I potentially ruin my phone and render it unuseable?

Posted by: dannyoneill

by using it or taking it to the pub with you theres the chance of rendering it unusable.

Posted by: bossboy

danny.....gee thanks for your ever so intelligent response.

much appreciated.....errrr or maybe not.
LOL

Posted by: dannyoneill

Its hard to fluff up your phone totally. All its doing is writing to C: if all goes wrong just do a factory reset. Failing that format C:

If that dosnt work goto the P900 firmware update site and choose the option for 'Recovery mode'. This will reflash your phone to what your operator gave you.

Hope that was more help.

Posted by: Technosaint

I have noticed too that with the new upgrade the battery life has diminished severely... barely two hours with no use and it's down to half. Yet others have experienced an increase in battery life... makes no sense how it can have opposite effects on the same device!

Posted by: dannyoneill

the update has proberbly reset all your power saving changes.

You can increase the battery life by 2-3 days by doing...

Remove screensavers, it takes power to render the images.

Set the car light from Auto to Off. Strange but increases.

Change your Connection type to GSM only. All this does is mean a GPRS connection takes 1 second longer. I can still MMS, internet and wireless email.

Again, turn the screen saver off. The matrix looks nice but a drain on your battery

Great tip! I had seen it before, but no one ever put it like you just did, that all it does is make my GPRS connection take half a second longer to establish. I always thought it meant I couldn't use GPRS if I had it set that way.

Thanks!

Posted by: dannyoneill

im not to sure why SE leave it on. GPRS still works, I can still send and recieve MMS.

I think SE should publish how they get their amazing 14 days standby time

Posted by: Cheule

Well, that 14 day standby is with no call usage. Someone on here mentioned that 1 min of call time equals about an hour of standby. So an hour phone call just ate up almost 3 days of standby.

It was about changing the CDA of the phone so it would accept updates that weren't assigned to their specific 'brand'.

I got a p900 hundred yesterday and i noticed that in some areas of the phone there are is some asian text (chinese i think), like next to the space bar on the virtual keyboard when writing a text. or when i use hand writing recognition it comes up in chinese and also when i change the date on the calender, the calender is all in chinese.
So i thought upgrading the firmware through the SE website would sort this out but after doing this the chinese parts of the phone still seem to be there
is there anyway of getting rid of this and installing a totally english firmware onto the phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Jamzi

I'm in the same boat! I did a search and couldn't find nadda. I also need to know how to make it a pure english firmware with handwriting recognition in english and to do away with all the chinese on this phone all together.

I see that R5B02 is the lastest for cda162003/8. Has anyone tried this? Any known issues?

I'm not very happy (most of you guys too) with the newest firmware update on my phone. Is it all possible to recover back to original?

Posted by: goonjh

im not getting that "download" screen for some reason. i go directly from the read the terms page to the last page where it says "do not close this window", but i never get anything to download. waited a long time for it, 4 hours perhaps, left it on while i went to sleep as well, still nothing. can someone help me?

sure it is, terminator dongle, se fighter and bit of elbow grease!

(lol, I fear I already told too much!)

Posted by: markbb99

I haven't been able to connect to the SE upgrade site now for a couple of days - at least yesterday I could connect and then I got the "Urrrr - page" after I entered the CDA. Today I don't even get that far.

Mark

Posted by: john99

I can't get on either.

I wonder if Sonyericsson changed there server but forgot to change the dns entry?

lets hope they fix it sooner than later, or are they overloaded giving everyone a p910 firmware update for our p900?

Posted by: ZinG

jamzi and 5ilex, im in the same situation, i called SE and they told me theres nothing they can do cuz the firmware flashed the phone, it is probable that they release a language pack for this or a new update but nothing guarantees it
This case has happened to lots of people but it seems noone has an answer to it.
In case u guys find something plz let me know, so will I!

Peace

Have we seen the last upgrade since the 910a/i is on the scene?

Posted by: dimushor

when i try to update, i get "error in communicating with server" . anyone know what it is?

Posted by: dimushor

i tried tu upgrade my phone's firware 5-6 times. each time i got "undefined error". probably because i could not connect to the phone monitor. can someone help me?

Hello,
I have a broken p900 and trying to get it fixed. The screen is broken and not sure what else, it was dropped and got banged up bad. I was wondering if anyone has any info on how I can get this fixed... I heard of certified SE shops but none in my area (Columbus Ohio). If anyone has info or able to do this kinda work, please reply here, email at purin@liverperfect.com, or via phone 614-286-7237.
Thanks a bunch

Did you install Java? Otherwise, try to download Java from here:
http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/getjava/...www.java.com:80

After installation of Java the update will progress. I've got the same problem.

I have a P900 flashed to a P910a.

Can I use the SE Update site and use the P910a's upgrade?

|d|

Posted by: dannyoneill

nope, the P910 firmware on the P900 is a special modified version to handle the bluetooth and other bits. the update service will know your not a true p900

Posted by: Sfkn2

Looks like they've changed the online firmware updating process.

I downloaded the program and followed instructions on installing and using the program, but the flash vid in the beginning freezes and repeats itself.

Posted by: dannyoneill

Before you launch the upgrade. in the link properties (you know, the little wavey pulse type thing) disable ALL ports.

Then try again,

No new version though, it upgraded mine saying there was a new one but it wasnt, tried again and now says I have the current one. only after it wiped everything.

the process works very well, but a few days now it hangs,l think this is due to a sever problem. try again later.

Yeah, I followed all the instructions.

The flash screen just repeats itself over and over again.

Posted by: Rocafella310

What will happen if you used SE910 update on the 900 because somebody on ebay did it and it work just fine.

Posted by: dannyoneill

you cant, it just wont work. You can load a special P910 firmware onto a P900 but you need very special equipment to do it. Some people out there will do this for you for about £10-£20. It works, search the forums and see what you get/loose.
