Audiovox 8500 questions

Ok I am getting an audiovox 8500 for metro pcs from ebay and I am going crazy trying to figure out why I can't get a tricked out faceplate and flashing keypad and all that other crap for this thing???!!! I have seen other flip phones with replacement cases and all that crap so why not this one? Some websites have suggested that it is because of the fact that the phone is cdma and it has lower power usage than tdma well ok whatever why don't they make a bunch of flashing crap for cdma then? Yes I know this phone battery sucks but I can get an extended battery for $7.99 from ebay and sell the standard battery to recover the cost. Also people have complained about the reception but as we all know reception differs from one place to another it's never gonna be perfect all the time so I'm not bothered by that. Anyways I decided to get this phone after considering the metro pcs alternatives which are a cheap looking slider phone that looks like it will break easily, some really ugly nokia phones OMG those things look like chew toys for infants, or a really hard to find kyocera s14 flip phone that goes for over $100.00 on ebay which nobody has locally so I think the audiovox was the better choice. I was using the older model kyocera basic looking phone and I think that the performace of the s14 is the same as that old phone anyway so I will have to see what happens when I get this audiovox. I got it for $76.50 from ebay brand new WOW LOL but the seller seems kinda new to ebay so who knows maybe I will get this phone maybe I won't HAHA... Anyways if someone could explain why nobody even makes antenna for cdma that lights up that would be great. I have read on some websites that some people tried the antennas on their cdma phones and it worked but many others had problems. I don't care if it's a little dim or whatever but if it kills batteries and crap like that then I can do without it. Any help is appreciated thanks ppl... My first post here:-)

Ok so I am searching around the mall today buggin some metro pcs kiosk people and some radioshack employees and nobody seems to be able to tell me anything about this power consumption problem with flashing antennas. So I saw this little stylus pen for pda that has a light in it and that gave me an idea... if they make a battery that small OMG that battery has to be super small then they could fit one into the flashing antenna and not have to use the phone itself for power. I'm sure there is a part of the connection that just sends a low power signal to the antenna to make it flash and then there must be a connection for actual power for the lights in the antenna!!! Ya know even a chrome antenna would be ok for this phone I could do without the lights if I could get a freakin something or another lol. After reading this board I am really getting interested in messin around with this phone heehee. I saw one that somebody had and they had this analog clock display on it and that seemed to be a lot better than one of those crappy animated character things that people are complaining about. I also noticed a 8600 today at radioshack it looks a lot better than 8500 (dam metro pcs only supporting 8500 :-() HAHA oh well anyways. Hey does anyone know when metro pcs is going to start supporting data over their networks?

maybe no one makes anything for it because its complete crap?.

oh and by the way, the 3586i is not a bad phone, it looks nice in public and it functions very well. The Kyocera slide is supposedly nice too.

Too bad the flashing ones only work on non-cdma networks. Which is very few. Virgin Mobile is CDMA so the flashing ones can not be used on it.

Ok so if the network is cdma then the antenna won't flash??? Thats strange. I thought that if the phone was cdma it wouldn't flash? Oh well anyways I can always get a chrome antenna or something like that. But hey as cheap as those antenna are I am thinking of buying several of them anyay lol. I got my phone today YEEEEAAAAHHHH. It looks great and is in great condition too. I really like the dual displays that is something I was really interested in. I am gonna use this phone with metro pcs and te previous owner bought this phone from metro pcs it even came with original box and all that stuff. I can see why people are DYING to get new ring tones omg some lame tones on this thing lol. I am thinking that this thing uses midi files and I can find some programs to make my own midi files from wav files but I have no idea how to upload them into the phone. I have an idea for two different tones already... a midi from the show ROBOTECH and maybe a daft punk song converted to midi lol that might not sound right though haha. The only major issue I have with this phone is I get a cramp in my thumb from messing around in all the menus but other than that it's ok. I did notice that the battery was getting a little warm while I was testing out ringtones though but I thought that was from me holding for long periods of time? Anyways how do I upload ringtones from a pc to this phone? I think I saw a data cable for this phone at radioshack will that do it? Thanks for any help :-)

Got the phone activated today it was on within an hour it's all good. I was reading where some people were really not happy with the sound quality but actually it works great in fact the loudest setting is unbearable lol. Even though the signal meter is real low sometimes the call still sounds good I dunno what people are complaining about but I was talking to the metro pcs rep at the mall while activating the phone and he said that some of these phones work great and some of them don't and if you get the one that works great then you are really lucky HAHA so I'm gonna play the lottery tonight and see what happens:-)

I haven't had a chance to mess around with ringtones yet but I am getting to that this week but I was wondering will the method of setting up my own server through IIS in windows work for my 8500 like it does for the 8600???

OMG the battery gets drained fast fo real!!!! I think it is because the signal is really low in my apartment and in other various areas. I ordered a metal antenna from that site along with a flashing antenna... they were something like a $1.50 each so what the hell if it works it works lol. I think that the metal antenna will improve reception but if it doesn't then I'll spring for the extended battery on ebay for $7.99 and keep the standard as a backup. It is very easy to remove the antenna just unscrew it and thats it OMG. And whats funny is I still get a signal without an antenna LOL but in low signal areas it does help a little to have the antenna. I also found a hands free earpiece with mic that has a flashing light in it that flashes when a call comes in or goes out and stays lit while in use for only $4.99 I wanna see how that turns out. Wow I really hate talkin to myself and I know that I can't be the only 8500 user here but atleast if someone else comes in here looking for info on this phone they won't find all kinds of negative crap amongst my info. Better to be positive than to be a negative ******* ya know.

I had the phone for a week and gave it to my neice. I absolutly hated it, worst phone I've ever owned.

She just wants something to talk on while her home phone is connected to the computer so she is tickled pink with the P I E C E !

According to what your profile says you've only owned 2 phones!!! The phone is great. Maybe you should realize that.

I've owned several phones but at the time of signing up here I had the 8500 and didnt take it off when I added the Slider.

I will say one thing negative bout the slider, the keys are way to freaking small.
