I play with my phone daily and I'm pretty sure there's tons of cool **** to do with it but.. anyone have any neat little hints or tips you could give me? I've given up on trying to find ringtones on the internet. Probably one reason why I can't find any is because I don't have the web connection with my phone. But can someone tell me what BREW is? I just got my 8600 about 3 days ago so I'm a newbie, any comments would be great.

BREW is the software on the phone to connect to your service provider and download applications and games to the phone. I've used my BREW enabled 8600 to get games, applications, and ringtones. No wallpapers or screensavers available yet, tho.
If you phone is unable to use this service, your only option is to use the data cable with a software program called GAGIN. And as far as I know, the only thing you can do with it on the 8600 at this point is load ringtones. I'm sure more is to come, the hardware was released long before they designed the software to interact with it.

Thanks a bunch.
Any idea where I could get the data cable and the software? And how would I use it?

Also, how could I get BREW to work for me? When I select the option it says the main menu, then I click on BREW, then catalog and it says "unable to retrieve catalog. please try again later". I feel cell phone illiterate.

If your current phone provider does not offer it, I do not think there is any way to get BREW apps. I might be wrong, its been possible on other phones but I havent seen it done yet with the 8600.
As for the data cable and software.. the cable can be bought straight from audiovox's web site, although its kind of expensive. You may be able to try and find it on ebay cheaper.
The software I mentioned, GAGIN, can be downloaded off the web. Google for it. I'll try and find the link to the page I d/l'ed it from and post it here tomorrow.

Is there a special name for this data cable that I could search for?
I also went to NTELOS who my phone is with and they don't even know what BREW is, I'm like well, you're a lot of help. Does BREW have a website of some sort that I could go to and read about?
Also, do you have AIM?

I know this may be a dumb point but "brew" is actually a programing language. It was developed by qualcomm for mobile applications. Its similar to mobile java that alot of other carries use for games and apps on there phones. Verizons get it now is the way that you download brew apps.

How does " get it now " work? Will it work with my phone even though BREW and my moblie web wont? Even if I got the mobile web, would verizons get it now work with my 8600?

get it now throughverizonw ill only work if your a verizon custermer. If your phone has the ability to pick and run brew programs there are other wyas to add them if you could get ahold of them. but i do not know how compatable they are. i dunno if you could take a verizon game and put it on your phone. i dunno if the program itself has a carrier check of some sort on it but i would be surprised.
