RPIwireless/1Xexpress VX6000 charging cable works great!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Nethead28

Just got it and tested with the same programs/drivers I was using with other cables and it works great. BitPim V.62 modified - Verizon Dialer (qlmobile) etc....

It came with an auto start CD from RPIwireless with USB Drivers - USB Modem Drivers - the modified version of BitPim & QLmobile dialing software. I didn't try any of these from the CD, because I already have these installed.

Everything I tried worked great, plus it charged my phone while I was testing, from one bar to all four in under 15 minutes.

So I have tried the LG1200 cable from FutureDial, and the VX6000 cable from Freedomnet (ebay) and now the VX6000 charging cable from RPI/1X.

The futuredial cable is OK, but slow compared to the others, and I had to keep setting my phone back to RS-232 all the time because in would default to USB. Plus the driver issue everyone was having. I used the prolific drivers and had no problem.

The Freedomnet (ebay) cable works great and is true USB. It came with all the software/drivers on an auto start CD plus a bunch of extra's - ringtones - wallpaper etc.... but doesn't charge phone.

The RPI/1X charging cable and the Freedomnet cable work equaly well with one exception, the RPI/1X cable charges the phone while you are working on it or use as a modem. It is also thinner, almost half the diameter of the other two cables. It also has a red light on it - for charging ? or just showing it is plugged into USB port ? either way, it makes it look more technical.

Bottom line:

When there wasn't anything better, than the FutureDial LG1200 cable it did the job. Not anymore.....

Either of the others are great, unless you want the charging feature. Then there is only one, the RPIwirless/1Xexpress VX6000 charging cable.

The only other one I haven't purchased, is the one that comes with the Verizon Mobile Office Kit.

Hope this was of some help to anyone thinking of buying a cable for their VX6000.

Here is a link to a picture of the charging cable. posted on 1Xepress forums:

second that on the RPI. Great product. But question..how the HECK is it charging so fast? I too had 1 bar when I plugged it in, and within about 15-20 mins, 4 full bars. As a test, plugged the phone into the standard LG base charger, and for a few seconds, the charging light was red, then it went green, indicating a fully charged phone. How does the RPI charge so fast? And is this good for the phone?

I was wondering that exact thing myself - fast is good, but that may be too fast ??? May kill the battery sooner than normal ??? We will see. Batts are cheap on Ebay anyway, as long as it doesn't hurt the phone.

gotit working. I love it... !!!!!

Posted by: lseguy

what did you have to do? Manually select the available port in BitPm AFTER making necessary adjustments in Device Manager?

Posted by: MikeBuzzsaw

Just... i didnt understand that there was acutally three drivers to install. so i installed the driver, and it prompted the hardware manager. I installed it once, and it appeared agian. So i click canceled and then it wont find the ports!

Now i know that the hardware manager will appear three times in a row... before it will work.

gotcha. Yep. Have to allow the CD to do the full install of everything.. Dont cancel out of anything.

this is the response i got from rpi:

Thank you for your interest. The cables charge your phone as the same rate as a your car charger would. They are regulated to go into a trickle charge state once they reach about 90% charge capacity. They will not harm your phone. We tested a phone on the charger for 10 days and it works great...

Posted by: CLorox

Rpi may have free shipping....

But it's $39.99 on the RPI site for the charging cable, and only $29.99 on ebay. GREAT DEAL for what seems like a GREAT CABLE!!!

I'm getting one off ebay right now.

I'm interested in adding ring tones and downloading pictures from my phone to my computer... the USB charger seems to be a plus too.

So, do you think that this is the best cable to buy for the VX6000?

thanks,

-john

In a word: "YES"

The only other one to consider is the Freedomnet one on Ebay, but it doesn't charge. Both are true USB and work the same except for the charging part, and that is a definite plus to me.

Didn't you read the first post in this tread ?

Posted by: geckojohn

Yeah, i did read the first post, but i just wanted some other opinions. Thanks for the help. Anyone else, please let me know how this works for you.

just bought this one or two days ago, and it's already here today! (off Ebay)

seems to work PERFECTLY so far. my phone is now charged in like 10 minutes, and the pictures uploaded perfectly.

i'm fully pleased.

Can you upload pictures from your phone to your computer with this cable?

Posted by: MikeBuzzsaw

Yup!

And I must say, this is the best cable out there.

I think you have to sign up for an acount first. when you put your location in on the acount it will calculate shipping.

Can this cable work with future dial software?

Posted by: MikeBuzzsaw

Im pretty sure it can but why?

Posted by: jason330i

my cable is defective. it gets jammed in the phone and is does not easily come off.

can't any of the software to work. usb drivers don't seem to work.

device manager says i have an "unknown device"

Posted by: CellBot

I use WIN98-SE. Anyone know if my OS will support this?

Posted by: pappoo

Just some price comparisons since I just got done researching them...

RPI cable from their website: 39.99 (free shipping)
RPI cable with 15% discount (coupon code 1643a): 33.99 (free shipping)
RPI cable off ebay: 38.84 (shipped)
Freedomnet cable: 35.99 (shipped)

Also.. there's the WalMart cable for 14.99. However I checked there tonight and they didn't have it

Newbie to this forum so please excuse if this is wrong thread for this post. Please help re-direct me to correct area if not.

I have the 6000 cable (from RPI Wireless) installed, bitpim and correct drivers. I've read other posts and seem to have installed correctly, but I am looking at the Device Manager now and it shows under 'modem's, My VX6000 connected on Com4.....but when I look under 'ports' on device manager..it shows it listed on Com5.
I typed in COM4 just like directions said on the software but I think it still did 'Auto-detect'.
is this a problem? should I un-install the whole thing and then re-install?
THanks

Posted by: thinkingone

The RPI cable from their website is now 44.99.

They must have just increased it today?? And the discount code didn't work..

Well if bitpim works you do not need to do anything. There are really 3 drivers for the phone that are installed one is the modem the others are a usb controler and a diagnostic driver. And every dirver uses a different port.

I knew I shoulda order it last night!! I got all the way up to the payment screen then decided to cancel it!

Posted by: JoeyC33

I just got mine in the mail today, ordered it early last week. Everything works perfect. Feels good to finally get rid of that Verizon banner

Posted by: NCForestDweller

IT doesn't work, Flexia. Says "unexpected error " all my phone, wallpaper and ringtones are showing in the folders but when i click on FILE SYSTEM, and it starts retrieving, it gives me the error message. One of the log files says 'broken port'...then it 'auto-detects' that port and continues on as normal.
I don't have a broken port, brand new computer.

Posted by: flexia

what version of bitpim do you have?

Posted by: NCForestDweller

0.62....Special Edition for LG VX6000
one that was on CD that came with charging cable from RPI

Posted by: CellBot

Do I need to download the USB drivers from RPI?

Posted by: Ryan Bell

If this cable charges the phone that quickly though, and you're using BitPim let's say for like an hour doing stuff (and obviously the cable still has to be plugged in that long), won't it overcharge your battery and decrease the battery life? It seems like the charging feature would be great for charging, but if it does it that fast when you're plugged in to transfer data (or even as a modem), it looks like it'd damage the battery after the first 15 minutes.

Posted by: LG 6000

Read The first page of this thread to see how the cable regulates to keep from overcharge ...READ, READ, READ and READ somemore . Have 3 different cables and all 3 work.. RPI is the only one that charges the phone.

Posted by: bryne

I just got the cable in the mail yesterday, so far its been working great. I have one problem with it though:

With the normal LG charger, the light becomes red while charging, and then turns green once the phone is at full life. The USB cable's light is always red for me, I have left it plugged in overnight and it is still red. Is this normal?

Posted by: NCForestDweller

ok, I can't get this thing to work. It has all drivers installed, QLink works on 14.4 but no broadband, I get PPP protocol not authenticated or something like that. I have tested phone with the Fourelle Venture software that came with CD and it says phone is operating properly, drivers in, but all the rest says test failed.
When i try to communicate with modem, it says everything operating properly.
I have used BitPim, backed up files, all wallpaper, ringtones and contacts are showing, but when trying to go to File systerm view, I get errors.
Where or what forum should i go for a step by step. RPI website not online it says.

Anyone tried these cables with a Mac? I'm about to pick up a VX6000 and want to be able to connect it to my Powerbook for Q2N access and picture transfers - do all these cables work with Macs?

Thanks!

Posted by: Archmikus

I just received the RPI cable yesterday and hooked it right up to my PowerBook running Mac OS X 10.3. I installed a couple modem scripts I found around these forums and elsewhere on the net: a "1_VZW_Generic_1X_ON_230400" and a "Verizon_Wireless_STD_Driver" (not sure what the difference is and which one I should use). My PowerBook recognized the phone/cable right away when I plug it in as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" and I can even get it to dial out... but the phone disconnects after only a couple seconds. I'm using myphonenumber@vzw3g.com as my login and vzw as the password, dialing #777 to connect. Anyone know what the problem could be? There's got to be another Mac user out there that can help!

Posted by: DAVIDGR

RPI Wireless has lowered the price of their LG VX 6000 USB CHARGING data cable from $44.99 to $39.99 (which was their price until this week). Is anyone aware of any coupon codes that work? The "1643a" code mentioned earlier no longer is valid.

Posted by: Q-ball

for some reason my diagnostic driver isnt installing....found new hardware keeps showing it as unknown hardware? so i'm able to use the cable for express network but not in bitpim, anyone have any ideas?

Posted by: Archmikus

Well disregard my previous post... my Mac connects to the net perfectly using the VX6000 and the RPI cable. I think the only reason it wasn't working before was because I chose the wrong modem script. So if any Mac users have any questions on this topic, I'd be happy to help troubleshoot. I can confirm that not only does it work, but it works great and setup is actually quite painless!

Yes, RPI is great, fast service, etc. Regarding the USB charger, I check the LG charger with a volmeter, this charger is putting out 16.6 volts, wow! The battery is only 3.7 volts. Now, the USB cable is putting out 5 volts, but current is probably high. The computer power supply is about 25 Amps, the LG charger is only 300 mA.(0.3A) This could be the explanation why the USB cable charges the batterey very fast compare to the LG charger. We need to keep in mind that volt and current are two different things. Here is a crude explanation.

Volt is the electrons' speed, or how fast they travel accros the wire, current, on the other hand, is the amount of electrons that travel accross the wire.

Posted by: thinkingone

I ordered my cable on the 22nd, and just received it today. I never called or checked on it after reading your messages, I thought I'd just hang tight.

I ordered with a credit card, not Paypal. Could it be that Paypal misplaced the funds and RPI doesn't know of your orders?

Posted by: mikejz

I just ordered the cable: $46 with shipping and FL sales tax. We are in the same state so shipping should be fast. I am just hoping they sent it soon: I leave for school in a week and a half.
