France made P900 DOES make a difference from China made P900!!

Just received my expansys P900 today and found out that it's made in france instead of china (my previous p900 is made in china, the ones w/o stating where it's made in).

1. The most important thing is, this france made P900 DOES NOT SQUEAK AT ALL!! If you guys have seen vwvwvw's squeaking video of the P900, u guys will understand how bad my china made P900 was!!! exactly like tha video!!!

to my surprise, this france made p900 is sooooooooooooo quiet..

so far, i'm extremely happy about my purchase.. $682 w/ 10% rebate off = $615..

2. When i had the old china made P900, after the SE online firmware upgrade, I still don't have the big clock standby screen others were talking about.. plus i couldn't remove the demo app.. now w/ this new one after firmware upgrade, I finally have that large standby clock screen and the demo app isn't there after the upgrade.

China made/assembled products are that cheap huh?..

My French made one DOES squeek.

C-Dub,

I don't believe that Sony Ericsson has a noise QA team like the automaker Audi. My P900 is French made and it squeaks. The build specs should be identical and IMHO, the old thinking of China Made=Cheap Crap might be shifting, especially on high-end products anyways. The materials are most likely identical and the build process... well how many turns of the screw would be the difference of good build vs. bad build? IMHO, the QA dept in SE probably didn't put the P900 through a thorough stress test or if at all, any squeak test.

Got mine today and nope, no squeaky.

Mine is made in france and creaks

I think it is like buying a new car, when you are one of the lucky ones who can get one from the first shipment, you will expect to get some minor glitches or problems (if you are lucky. Sometimes they are major). So that's why your newer French made model feel so solid. Maybe its time we all dump our 'old' P900s and get a new ones?

I have a France built P900 and it does not squeak. And mine was among the first I'd imagine. But yes, I'm sure it can vary between various builds and such.

Anyone had success with tightening up the screws or whatever others have suggested/tried to solve this issue?

I guess it still stands at luck of the draw...

Mine is made in France and does squeak so better done in China I guess.

both of mine r made in france
one squeeks, the other doesnt...

I guess it just depends
they r from 2 different batches

I just got my P900 today....excellent phone pda combo thing so far. One of the first things I did was to squeeze the sides to see if it squeeked or not. I've noticed that if I havn't held the phone in a while and I press on the sides the phone creaks slightly but then if I do it again, it really doesn't creak very much (maybe very slightly)...but not something I'd call annoying or a "squeeking" for that matter. Mine is made in France as well and I got it through Expansys during last Sunday's deal....Very pleased overall!!

Maybe someone will get irritated enough to where they'll take it apart and find out what needs to be padded to prevent friction which is causing the squeak... anyone daring enough?

My Frenchy P900 squeeks like a hog...

Tried that already, theres not much scope for padding as there's not many solid components around what seems to be the common problem areas.

What surprised me was that on taking the case apart, the LHS which was creaking like mad and visibly flexing before seemed 100% solid all the way up, even round the scroll wheel. It looks like the squeeking on that side was down to someone on the production line overtightening the screws which hold the case together. There is no way they needed to be as tight as they were. There's retainnig clips on the plastic case itself which hold everything down anyway without the screws.

The RHS is another matter though as the area around the memory card slot flexes pretty bad even with the case taken apart. It does seem like a weekness in that area that they've already tried to pad but what they've currently got in there just isn't doing the job well enough.

Even given that, taking the case apart and putting it straight back on again without the extreme torque on the crews fixed 99% of the creaks for me. Sticking some layers of tape on top of the memory card as was suggested in another thread cleared up the remaining 1% around in that area. The (un)funny thing is, the P900 I had before this had the opposite problem. The screws in that one were way too loose resulting in creaks for an entirely different reason.

Bottom line, it seems to be down to bad design particularly around the memory card and some dubious buid quality in general..... It would amaze me to find out SE weren't aware of this issue before the phone was released. It amazes me even more that they seem then to value either time to market or a reduced production cost over getting a simple/cheap to fix thing like this right in what is alledgedly their flagship phone.

P.S. This is my third, all had the same problem to different degrees, all bought from different placess and with different manufacturer weeks. Two were made in France the other in China.

Thanks for being adventurous with your P900 and for sharing your conclusions.

It would not surprise me if SE knew about the issues you described, since we all know there were pre-production models being tested for months beofre the commercial release. Since they also let the P900 inherit problems from the P800, I guess it is easy to know where their priorities are.

Yeh, I guess you're right about their priorities. It just irks me a bit to find these kind of problems with the P900 and by the sounds of things I'm far from the only one who has.

I was really hoping SE had put their dodgy build quality reputation behind them after releasing the T610 which is without a doubt the most 'solid' feeling phone I've ever laid my hands on....guess I should have known better.

Hey C-Dub,

I just got my P900 (Made in France).

I want to have the "Large Clock" screensaver. However the firmware on my P900 appears to be up to date. Could you tell me how to make the Clock appear?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i had 3 p900s in my possession at once...

How did you get that price? I find it much higher on their web site.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.1 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Symbian OS) Opera 6.02 [en])

How hard is everyone squeezing their phones? My p900 was made in France and only squeeks when I squeeze it rather hard. But mine squeeks by the Browser button. (Luckily, I rarely use that button.)

Posted by: cmc0

Mine only squeaks if you press on the phone really hard. But then again, just about any phone would creak if I squeezed it that that hard

Where did you get that price man. Ive searched and searched and cannot find a price for less than 750.00. Can someone direct me. Thanks.
