I finally caved and got the 5500/VM4500 today: Sprint store, $379+tax (big ouch, btw)...then found it for $40 less at Best Buy so I picked up one from there, too. I was told I would qualify for the instant $150 rebate, but then they realized they were wrong and b/c I'm a current sprint customer, I only qualified for the upgrade plan. I have to mail the darned thing in (6-8 weeks to get it back, people). Now I have two of these phones, but only one's active (Best Buy).
The Sprint one is going back by Friday!
ANYway...really like the phone. The reception is AMAZING (and I've tried everything in the Los Angeles area). The phone looks cool, love the blue-light keypad. The screen is nice...though the menu screen is not completely clear (like the 8100 that I compared it to in the store). The camcorder and camera are okay. Maybe I'm expecting too much from the phone/camera (I should, for the price!), but when I just tried out the camera at home, the pictures seem yellowish. I know there is a way to change the image quality/whiteness quality (which I tried), but the options give a range of yellowness to the picture, with the photos never *quite* as normal looking as I'd like.
Maybe I'm missing something here (look, I lost patience with the manual)...BUT, is this something that everyone's getting on the camera phone?
If not, what are your settings and does the environment's lighting have a huge effect on the pics (I tried this at home under halogen lighting)?
Any info would be terrific. I have 14 days to try the phone out and see if it's a keeper. I almost bought the 5400, but minus the camera capability...well, I just wanted this one.
Feedback?

I wish I could help. Other than fiddling with the white balance and brightness, I don't know if there's much you can do. Mine don't really turn out that way, but, it's because of all the fiddling I do with it.

To be honest it just takes practice...
Even the 5300 has a camera that you need to "get used" to...so you take lots of shots, and see how they look, and learn from the pictures...see what "works" and what doesn't.
Sadly, this isn't the 3mp phone everybody was expecting, but I agree with you: it's quite a great phone!

I find pictures are very good IF you take time to make the necessary adjustments to White Balance and other settings...all depends on "quality" of the light (read...flourscent, tungsten, etc)..play with image controls, etc and you will find the camera does pretty fair job
