30s mp3 and other myths

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just uploaded a full 3:40 mp3 file and it worked.

I just drag and dropped a bmp file without deleting the other graphics on 7-1 and I still don't get any white bars.

So my questions are; Why is it that people said that 30s max for mp3s? And why the instruction to delete all graphics before uploading a new one for no white bar?

The reason why people talk about 30 second mp3 clips is that is how long it takes the phone to go to voice mail when somebody calls you. You will only hear the first 30 seconds of the song. Anything after that is overkill and not needed. I personally have 3 full length mp3s on my phone averaging 4:30 minutes in length of some favorite songs averaging 1.5meg file size, which can be used as ringers also. The best sounding bit rate and smallest file size I have found is a bit rate of 22050Hz/24kbps/Mono. I also have around ten 30 second clips that I use as ringers. The phone now takes a lot longer to power on, but it works and the ringers sound great.

did you need to use a data cable to upload the full length songs? i understand you cant do it through email?

I think only mp3s under 30KB can be sent to the phone, though I've only sent ones under 30KB anyway, so I couldn't tell you for sure. I'll try it later today.

Yes you need the cable to transfer full length mp3's to your phone because the songs can be up to 1.5 megs each. I don't remember what the file size restriction is for the email. Some people are saying 30k. You can have a 30 second sound clip that size. Just try emailing it to your phone to see if it works.

My song was around 850KB, and yes I can set it as my ringer. But the song is not a good ringer(hey ya) so I only use it to play around when I'm bored.

There will be a day when I can plug in my flash drive and use the phone as an mp3 player altogether. Would be nice if I could play some movies too.....

Yes I used the cable.

Well I like Purple Haze better, it's my default. But I use Sledgehammer for when the wifey calls. It's a good warning....

after a lot of reading and much trial and error, with a little help from Fury (thanks Fury!) there is a very easy way of loading and deleting wallpapers. If you have a cable the right drivers, and the right version of Bitpim you can drag and drop pics, delete pics and view (thumbnails) pics right in Bitpim. It is so easy now. There is no messing with the directory tree anymore! As long as your pics are 120x131 bmp's.

No luck with a 40KB mp3 via e-mail. I'm waiting for my true USB charging cable to arrive. I can't wait for real mp3 ringtones!!!

the POS is so fuking sporatic with the acceptance of mp3s that it makes me fed up. I have send and saved mp3s (renamed to .mid) as large as 54k, but every once and a while it will say "file size too big "under 30k". Its a pain in hte ***, so trial and error is all I can say.

i use 22500hz and 22 kbps for the mp3s

what do u guys use to upload mp3's to your phone, without a cable? i use 22500hz and 22 kbps for the mp3s wouldnt that make a 30 second mp3 660 kbs? can you send that threw email?

Posted by: LoFo

Maybe I need to be clear. When I mentioned about a 3:40 minutes mp3, that was thru a cable, not thru email.

Also, sandstorm03, if your file is really 660KB then your encoding is not right. A 660KB file should have over 2:40 minutes of music in it. I just did Whip It (2:40) and the size is only 627KB. This was with 22050Hz and 32Kbps.

aaah i c what i was doing thanks a bunch, now i have a mp3. I take that mp3 and just change the file extension to .mid(after changing the extension it doesnt play on my computer). that is 27 kb i just email that to my vzw e-mail and it should work?
