i got the ebay cable and it came with a cd with the drivers. installed them, plugged in the phone and XP prompted me to install the modem, etc. everything went fine

open up bitpim, go to filesystem, click the + symbol, and it says...

"Failed to auto-detect the port to use. I couldn't find any candidate ports."

how do i fix this?

i'm not completely computer illiterate but step by step instructions would help

thanks in advance!

Hey Soon2BMaxed,

First, that is a "true" USB cable (There's no DB-9 converter box sitting along the cable). I've seen that one before & I'm pretty sure it uses the Futuredial drivers, in any case...

In BitPim, have you tried going to Edit-->Settings on the file menu, then browsing for your COM port (With your phone plugged in)?

I set it manually (With the phone plugged in) by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button.

I then expanded (clicked on the + beside) "Ports (COM & LPT)". I saw my phone sitting there on COM4.

Next, in BitPim I went to Edit-->Settings on the file menu & typed in COM4

It's been working fine ever since.

Hope this helps!

I just went to the BitPim web site and they have a new statement about not supporting straight USB cables for the 4400. Same may be an issue with the 6000.

See this link http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/ This is the statement.

"8 December 2003

Update on USB issues with the LG VX4400

Summary:

The VX4400 phone itself has an issue with its USB interface that causes timeouts. This happens with any straight USB cable on any platform. The only drivers that work around this issue are produced by LG Electronics (LGE) which are only available for Windows, and only as part of Verizon's Mobile Office Kit.
I WILL BE COMPLETELY IGNORING ALL SUPPORT ISSUES, HELP REQUESTS ETC FROM ANYONE USING A STRAIGHT USB CABLE THAT IS NOT USING THE LGE DRIVER. "

hey i got that same cable.. and at first when i tried using it, it didn't work.. well the softwear you get, only install the first drivers not driver2.... do this so that when you look at your list of modems, you should only have the one reading LG tech. there is nothing wrong with your cable or the softwear, just uninstall all wht you have now and do it over again and this time install the correct drivers for your operating system

You do have the right BitPim don't you? There is a modified one just for the VX6000. I'll bet that's the problem.

It's named "bitpim-0.62-forVX6000-setup.exe" Goozie11 did the mod. Thanks Goozie!!!

I'd give you a link, but I can't find it.

Hey uninstall everything! after you do that then plug the phone to your computer, if you have xp, the setup for installing the drivers will show up. all you do is point it to the CD. if it doesn't start downloading, select drivers on the CD and pick your operating system and install those programs.
