I looking to get a new Verizon phone and had settled on the LG VX6000. However they now have the Audiovox 8900 available and I have a few questions I couldnt find answers to here or in any reviews.
1. On the LG VX6000 the external LCD cannot stay on forever its either 5 seconds, 1 or 3 minutes. On the 8900 the external LCD is always on right? Can it show the date and time simultaneously?
2. How is the internal LCD? I know its less colors then the LG however how is the readability? Does it fade in direct sunlight, etc..?
3. Durability. Lots of LG users are reporting that dropping their phone once would cause a connection inside for the antenna to come loose. How durable are Audiovox phones? I drop my v60i all the time and even slammed it in my car door and it works perfect.
4. Missed calls and voicemail notification. My v60i will beep when I have missed a call or have a voicemail. This way I dont have to check my phone everytime I get out of the shower or wherever. I can just wait for a "beep" to tell if I missed a call. Do the Audiovox phones do this?
5. Changing Ring modes. On my v60i I can tap the buttons on the side of my phone to change between low, high, vib, and ring & vib without having to open the phone. Can the 8900 do that? And does it ring and vibrate simultaneously or does it vibrate THEN ring.
Any other comments you would like to share would be nice. Reception, camera quality, menu navigation, LCD legibility, etc...
Thank you for the time.

!. External LCD is always on, even lights up when you open the flip or press the buttons on the side.. there is a digital mode (which shows time and date simultaneously) and analog (looks super cool).
2. Internal LCD seems very cool and big compared to any of the other phones I've seen.. colours seem to be quite bright even in the light.
3. Durability isn't the greatest.. feels kinda cheap and plastic-y.. doesn't have that solid feeling when holding it.
4. There's a tone/beep when you have a missed call or voicemail.. but as far as I know, it doesn't keep beeping until you check it.. just the initial alert..and the external LCD shows a MISSED CALL or VOICEMAIL message.
5. The 8900 rings and vibrates at the same time.. and you can change the way it rings with the buttons on the side.. the external LCD becomes active when you press the side buttons, but I'm not sure if it actually changes the ring mode.. I've only been able to change it while the flip was open because you need to press OK to accept the ringmode chosen.
Miscellaneous:
Audio quality isn't the greatest.. menu's are simple and easy but boring.. the camera is fine for general use (it's obviously not the greatest thing, but as a novelty item and quick snap shots, it'll do the job)..worst problem I've had with mine was the memory leakage (I'm on my eighth handset, but it could just be the firmware that Telus is using.. nobody else seems to have this problem).
Hope that helps!

Thank you, that is very helpfull.
If you dont mind I have one more question that is really important for me:
The LG VX6000 displays on the internal LCD over the background image: -- Silent --, -- Vibrate --, or -- Vib & Ring --, for those settings. Any other setting (low, med, high) etc.. it doesnt say anything.
I hate that! Whats the point of having a custom background if its covered with all kinds of text. As if Im so stupid I dont know how I set my own phone to ring.
Please tell me the 8900 does not do that.
So far this is looking like it will be my choice. The only plus on the LG is the 262K color display, but what good is that if you dont like the phone.
Im glad Verizon give 15 days to try a phone for free.
Thank you for the help, and anyone else feel free to respond also.

Well, in the ring mode screen the screen shows everything on the screen.. the ringmode name at the top, there's the five little icons and the bigger icon to show what you've chosen..for example
for vibrate mode, it says VIBRATE at the top, then the little circle with the vibrate icon is highlighted and a bigger vibrate icon is displayed in the center of the screen.. in normal ringer mode, it says RINGER with the circular ringer icon highlighted, but it has level bars that go from 1 to 5 instead of the bigger ringer icon.

How is the ringer volume and quality. How is the speakerphone does it sound tinny like the 8600?
