CDM 8900 Memory Issues?

Hey all, hopefully someone here can help me out or explain to me what's going on with my Audiovox CDM8900 handset.

Let's see, I'm with Telus Mobility (Canada) and since I signed up two weeks ago, I've had problems with my handset and I'm currently on my EIGHTH one. Two of them had problems with accessing wireless web (probably due to firmware), but the other six have had what I believe to be memory damage/leakage.

This is the scenario.. Client Care/Wireless Web technicians can't figure out what's wrong with my phone so they tell me to go in and get a replacement handset (30-day DOA/money back guarantee). Phone gets programmed etc and is good to go. First thing I do, check FREE MEMORY.

Free Memory on the brand new handset is 2538KB. Next, I go and download a ringtone from Telus Mobility through the wireless web function..blah blah blah download complete. I check free memory.. it is now at 2533KB. Okay, so the ringtone is 5KB in size. I assign the ringtone, test it out by calling from another phone, everything's cool.

I "reboot" the phone by going back to the main menu screen and turning it off, then back on.. I go to check free memory and now I notice that the free memory is at 2523KB or something (between the six replacement handsets the value of "lost" memory was always random..on one phone I lost 10KB, another lost 5KB, another lost 16KB etc).

Now, I didn't download or save anything, I didn't receive any text or picture message etc before OR after I turned the phone off then on.

My question is this.. what the heck is happening with the memory??? I know the amount being lost is very small, but it's enough to make me curious about it.. actually, one of the phones I went through didn't have this problem.. the free memory stayed at 2533KB after I downloaded the ringtone (I got the exact same ringtone each time) and with that one I tried my hardest to make it lose memory but nothing happened.. that handset got returned because it had a different problem involving the digi cam.

Anyways, does anyone have an idea of what's going on with the phone/memory? The firmware is obviously buggy, but is the memory part of firmware? Is there any way I can do a diagnostic or delete a file that will give me more memory back in case I keep losing it?

*phew*

Thanks!
