Problems upgrading S56 Firmware..has anyone actually done it yet?

Well I got a usb data cable. I attach the phone etc. The firmware update recognizes the phone...while trying to do the update it says wrong software version.

I went to the my-siemens website and chose the update for S55/S57. I assumed this is also the same for S56 as it says that when I start the update program.

Anyone have any ideas?

S55/7 uses different firmware than S56. I don't believe there are firmware updates available for the S56.

Oh...I thought the term S55 was just the european version number or the S56...my mistake.

The S55 is the world phone version with 900Mhz and the S56 is the US version with 850Mhz, so the firmwares aren't compatible.

I've got the same problem. No one program for Siemens S55 works with S56. Even simple Data Exchange function is missing in Data Suite Software for S56. And that sucks!!! I'm very upset. So I can't do anything with my S56. It is impossible to upgrade firmware and I don't understand why Siemens made such thing. I'm thinking of getting rid of this phone and get real good stuff Siemens S55 or M55. Write your opinions guys.

I have done alot of reading and testing for myself and with the excetion of getting your address book and missed calls, the data cable via USB or Serial is USLESS!

Use IrDA (infrared) to send to your phone, you can do ringtones backrounds.....

As for firmware, i think for there is a v7 out although i have yet to find it (and i have been looking hard). Unfortunatly to upgrade the firmware when ever it gets out you will need the data cable (thats about all its good for)

dont go to the Siemens site beacuse you will only find firmware for the sl55 which does NOT work for the sl56

I dont know why the v7 firmware is taking so long to become mainstreem but one i get it i will post it here.

Thanks pal. I send files via IRDA, everything works fine. As well I've got data cable, so far It's useless for me. I just want to add another language to my S56, do you have any ideas how I can do it? And I will aprecciate it if you could send me some unlocking software that works with S56.
