Which data cable for VX6000?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Tachion

I am really confused here.

Between the official Verizon cable, the "eBay cable", the FutureDial cable, and a whole bunch of others, I have no idea which one to get.

All I want to do is to be able to transfer ringtones and wallpaper to my phone and get pictures that I take with the camera off of it.

Can someone please tell me which cable is the best one for that and what software I need to do all of that (I think I need Bitpim).

Thanks

Com on. There was JUST a post on this EXACT same question 2 threads down. And there was a post REVIEWING MOST OF THE DATA CABLES on the EXACT SAME PAGE as both of these threads. Are people that blind or just incredibly lazy. I'm sure it took you more time to write this post that it did for me to search for it.

The charging one at RPI wireless looks like a pretty good deal.

I find search particularly worthless and therefore I don't use it. It does nothing but give a ton of results that don't answer my question. Had I just typed in "data cable" I would have a ton of responses that were, generally, worthless as to answering my question.

Your attempt at a witty remark was niether amusing or helpful, but thanks for trying!

From what I have read, the problem with the charging unit is that it is a straight USB cable. Due to time out problems, this cable seems to be more problematic. Instead use the one with the USB-Serial connection. It can be found at Radioshack for $20.99. Here is a direct link:

But does the Cable from the rat shack work with the vx6000?

I actually thought about getting that one since the Radio Shack near me actually has them in the store, but I asked on the Verizon forums and one person told me it wouldn't work with the VX 6000 (although he was the only one that replied).

Are you sure it will work with the VX 6000?

wow. learn to use the inTrAn3T better. the search function is there for a reason. maybe you should limit your search to the lg forum instead of every forum out there. I even gave you the stupid thread. are you blind? did you not see the link? or are you too lazy to even CLICK on the link? hilarious. I did my part to help you by searching and providing the link. Learn to use the force, damn padwan.

I have the Verizon cable. I try to bump the USB speed up to 230400 and it jumps down to 115200. So it's another USB hook-up acting like a serial port!

And I'm sure it's not charging my phone! In fact I think it's somehow draining the phone even when ide and just connected to my PC!

I'l l confirm this and post later!

Just remember, the only cable warrantied for use with the VX6000 is the Verizon cable. Others will void the warranty. But now the data cable cost's as much as the phone!

So, if you have insurance, and you screw up the phone your OK. Otherwise you need to buy another!

I have confirmed my earlier beliefs, the Verizon cable DOES in fact DRAIN the phone battery while it's plugged in to a USB port. I left Mine plugged in overnight and bam! Dead in the morning!

The verizon cable, from my understanding, has never purported to charge the phone, so I'm not surprised that your batteries are getting drained. I have the charging cable from RPI, which also happens to be the "ebay cable", since RPI is selling them on ebay (though for cheaper than their website).

My cable definitely charges the phone, and definitely powers the phone without the battery being attached, which is nice. I've been busy with other stuff, but I am excited about using it for internet access at my parents house, as they still haven't joined the 21st century (no broadband).

I got my phone and service through US Cellular and other than the fact I can't e-mail pictures, everything is the same.
I did however, only pay $14.99 for the LG-USB7000 which is listed as the Mobile Office kit for Verizon. I don't know if that cable is still $14.99 but It will work just as well as Verizon's (and is warrantied by LG)

Wow, that's a good deal! What website did you buy it from?

The verizon cable comes with that box attached that has a connector in it.
Is that to plug in a charger?

I can't find the cable on US Cellular's site. Do you have the link for the LG-USB7000?

Yes, there's a small rubber plug on the side you have to remove and under it is a power plug!

This is on the real Verizon cable.

I too bought this cable directly from the USC representative at Walmart. I don't think they even sell accessories for the VX6000 on the USC website as of yet.

This cable works great but the LG image editor software is no good as it resizes images when you send them back to the phone so they have the white bands. I have to use bitpim to get my wallpapers and tones to the phone. USC will not do pix messages until about April of '04.

The cable for VZW people is ONLY sold with their Moblie Office package which is more than some people even want. I believe that the cable would be just as cheap if they sold it seperate from all that moblie computing software.

I don't think it makes much of a difference where you buy the cable from, I noticed the cable I bought is exactly the same as what comes in the VZW package. That means it's not a VZW cable, but just a standard LG VX6000 cable.

I don't have a link. Their site only lists the VX 4400 and doesn't show any data cable. They may have sold me the cable by mistake, if not, then I don't know the best way to get it other than to go to the store, or talk to someone who could.

I don't think all of the cables on Ebay are from RPI wireless. I had pre-ordered a cable from 1xexpress, but it took forever, so I got a differenet cable off of ebay, from a differenent company, and it works great. just a heads up.

Posted by: flexia

there are 2 true usb cables on ebay. one is the rpi charging cable and the other is just a usb cable. and there is the serial usb cable on there too

I live up in Canada, and was wondering if the cable for the 6000 that was available at walmart, is still available there. Is it only at certain stores? Does radio shack carry this cable? Its not listed on their website, but its also a new phone. Any tips on where to get it when im down in the US would be helpful. Thanks.

I just received my LG-USB7000 today and noticed the connection on the side of the box. Is there any documentation that states that that is a charger port? There was nothing on the box or in the minimal documentation or on either CD that indicates that's a charger port. Sure would be great if it is. {fingers rossed}

The software that comes with the official MO kit is very limited. a stripped down version of PC Sync. Can't even import a CVS file, just from Outbreak Express. Also doesn't appear to support copying pictures, wallpapers or ringtones.

Guess I'm off to DL the VX6000 version of BitPim.

Thanks,
pat----
