(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: TTgolf

I am one of the new P900 user that has the software version stay at

Phone CXC162022 R3A024
Bluetooth CXC12529 R5D
Organizer CXC162021 R1A05
CDA 162004/14 R2B01

I read on the forum that the new version should be

Phone CXC162022 R3C006
Bluetooth CXC12529 R5D
Organiser CXC162021 R2B02
CDA 162003/5 R2A10

After numerous updates I realize that my CDA will not allow me to go above the current version I have.

After playing around with the update software for a while I see in the
C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data

Posted by: TTgolf

Sorry I previous message got cut off.

I was wondering if it is possible for someone to email me the update files in your C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data

Posted by: jettie1767

We have the same version numbers! I also tried multiple times and it just won't update beyond R2B01 for CDA. Worse, the organiser and phone fw can't be upgraded at all .

Posted by: TTgolf

If I can get the update files from someone that were able to upgrade to the latest version, I am going to try to update my phones again with these files. Contact me to let me know if you have them. I can not post my email address on the forum.

For ones that were able to upgrade the P900 to the latest version, please email me the files in your

C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data\

When I did the update over the weekend, it will only try to download the update files once. I am planning to change the file names to match up with the ones I already have. I am not sure if it will work. But it is worth a try. The worst case is that I can restore the firmware again.

I don't think I am allow to post my email address. Please email me so I can tell you how to post it on my site.

did you read your PMs? I sent you a link to the files you requested. If you still need them Please let me know and I will put them back up. You can use the same url as I sent you.

However I will only leave them up for 24 hours.

Let me know if your still interested.

Sorry I did not get the mail. Please send me a email to my in yahoo address email. my user name is tashtseng. Sorry I don't want to type out the full email address because it might get taken out by Admin. Thanks for your help. I will let everyone knows if it works or not.

Posted by: TTgolf

Sorry new to the forum. I just checked my PM. I hope you can put it up again. Thanks.

RudeDog - I am wanting to try the same thing, as I have the P900 version that refuses to update. Any chance I could grab a copy of the firmaware update also? Many thanks........

Posted by: TTgolf

Hi Guys,

I tried it and did not work. I guess I will have to send my phone to SE Service Center to get it flash.

Thanks Rudedog.

Posted by: rudedog

Sorry to hear that, TTgolf. good luck getting your phone flashed.

Posted by: TTRR

can you sen me to? send it to simsnow@walla.co.il

Posted by: Cheesekeeper

Wow, that phone is smarter than I thought. I have tried everything, including renaming the files, waiting for the download to complete, then substituting the new firmare files over the ones it downloaded. In that case, the upgrade software was unable to tell that the files had been modified, and did start to flash the phone using the substitued firmware. However, it reached about 7%, and then fails. I can only assume that the phone is rejecting the new firmware.

I live in Australia, and the phone has not been released here yet, so it will be at least a couple of months before the service centres have any P900 firmware available. Who knows, with any luck Sony will release newer firmware files for my particular model before then.........

I am in the same boat as you

I can't update my phone beyond

Phone CXC162022 R3A024
Bluetooth CXC12529 R5D
Organizer CXC162021 R1A05
CDA 162004/14 R2B01

This is probably because of our CDA, we need to get in touch with SE and have them update their system to allow us to update properly. The same problem occured with users with the /20 development P900's. Check out my-symbian.com for info. I hope we can resolve this! Please keep us up-to-date!

Thanks

Could you put the files back up for me or email
them to me please. I had my phone flashed
but it didn't finish properly, it changed my
CDA number but the GPRS dosnt work any more
and it wont connect to the online update
service.

Thanks

So were you able to get your phone flashed and updated by SE? BTW where do you live?

Posted by: Finchey

I live in the UK.
I took my orange phone to an SE service center
to be flashed but thay said that it wouldnt
flash properly and that the phone might be faulty.
When I got it back the orange stuff had gorne
and the CDA number had changed but the GPRS
no longer worked and it would no longer connect
to the online update service.
I phoned orange and thay sent me a new phone
and I took it to the service center and the same thing
happend again.
Thay said thay could send it back to SE but it
would take about six weeks.
So I thought Id have a go myself but I need the update
file to do it.
I thought that as my CDA number has changed
to the normal one it might work.
the thing that gets me is other people seem to have
had there orange phones flashed by SE with no problem.

Sorry to here of your problems, but the Orange provisioned phones have a totally different set of issues than the 162004/14 CDA phone that are being discussed in this thread. You may want to check-out some of the threads here and on ESATO regarding the orange provisioned phones. Just out of curiosity what CDA numbers did your phone have before and after your flash at the SE center? FYI the CDA 162004/14 phones are not labled/provisioned by any cellular carrier and are SIM free (I am assuming they all are, since mine is). I will not that my phone is a "gray-market" phone since I purchased it from unorthodox retail channels (re: Ebay) as the phones are not available here in the States yet. I beleive many others are having the same problems as I am with their 162004/14 phones. Just as an update: I have NOT received a reply from SE tech support following a legnthy e-mail. Additionally, I have received no feedback from their developers forums regarding the 162004/14 CDA software update issues. I am going to call SE tech support on Monday and see if I can make any headway. I am NOT optimistic as I doubt SE is excited to help users with "gray-market" phones, we shall see! Hopefully their customer service will be somewhat proactive. If anyone has found a solution to the 162004/14 update problem please post, thanks!

Well I finally got a response from SEusa, and it doesn't look good for us 162004/14 owners. Here is their response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

Unfortunately since the phone has not been released in North America we
cant verify what the latest firmware should be or how or if an R3C006
is available. If you are traveling abroad soon perhaps a sonyericsson
service center overseas can perform an upgrade. Besides updating the
firmware, is there a specific functionality problem you are experiencing?
You may be able to get additional information by logging into

Just an update....I went to the Philippines for the holidays and was able to get the SE Service Center there to flash my firmware. The phone fw was R3A024 and it was flashed to R3B01 with a CDA of 162003/8.

When I got back to the US, I did an online update and was able to get the following:

Phone CXC162022 R3C006
Bluetooth CXC12529 R5D
Organiser CXC162021 R2B02
CDA 162003/5 R2A10

The conclusion is that for those having the same problem as the original poster of this thread, you will have to bring it in to an SE Service Center and flashed with generic fw. Once you get the generic fw, you can use the SE Online Update with no problems.

Yes but when I take a phone to a service center
thay just mess it up.

Posted by: Cheesekeeper

The Telstra service centre in Western Australia now has the facilities to update the P900 (despite the fact that the phone is not available here quite yet). I took my 162004/14 phone in this morning, and they allowed me to choose which CDA I wanted (very civilised of them). Mine is now a 162003/8, and has all the latest firmware on it. I'd love to know why certain (presumably newer CDAs) are not supported when the hardware is obviously identical.

Our company just got another couple of P900s, and thse have a CDA of 162003/11, which will get a newer firmware than the 4/14, but still a fair bit older than the 3/8. There must be a reason. This is just plain weird..........

From speaking with an engineer at my local service centre, I've come to the following conclusions with regards to the CDA numbers.

Firstly, the CDA number is used to identify which network operator the phone was sourced from e.g. Orange, Vodafone, o2, T-Mobile etc.

In the UK, the firmware versions in the P900 from Orange, Vodafone and o2 are all different from each other. In particular, the Orange firmware seems to have far more operator specific customisations than any of the others.

As you can probably imagine, each network operator has their own test suite for verifying the operation of a particular phone on their network. At some point, they must chose a baseline version of P900 firmware onto which they will add their customisations. Once they add their customisations, they end up with a firmware version that is unique to them, and is also certified for use on their network.

In order to ensure that you don't run a version of firmware that is not certified by your network operator, Sony Ericsson have coded the online update service to understand which firmware versions apply to which network. They then use the CDA number to identify the network, and therefore ensure that the online updater does not allow you to upgrade to a non-certified firmware.

It appears that there are also some generic CDA numbers which aren't network specific, but do identify the country of origin of the phone. For these CDA numbers, you should be able to update the phone to the latest firmware that SE have available.

Personally, I bought a P900 on o2, and was unable to update the firmware. I took my phone to a service centre, who updated it, changing the CDA to one of the generic ones. I was then able to update further using the online tool.

As far as Orange are concerned, I'm told that they are working on an update, but it is unclear as to how this will be delivered to customers. I am hopeful that they will work with SE to make the update appear on the online site.

Hope this helps,

Andy.
