If all goes as planned I'll finally be getting a car late spring, around april-may 04...considering these...

- 04 TSX
- 04 Mazda 3
- 99-01 CLK320/430
- 00-01 323/325Ci
- 01 IS300

Right now I'm leaning towards the TSX as I would prefer (but not necessary) a brand new car...but it's also the most expensive car here. Anything else worth considering for a max. (but preferably less) of 35k before tax?

02 audi 1.8t?

Posted by: c^2

I heard Audi had reliability problems...

BMW, 'cus that seems to be what you have been talkin' about the most.

get the one that rapes you least in insurance

i vote for 04 TSX

Posted by: Schmohey

Do you really want a Mercedes or BMW? Even though it's used, problem will appear faster.

As for the TSX, it's brand new, less headache + the features and design it offers. It's the best bang for the buck.

my vote goes to Mazda3..

save the $20k and use it towards your next car..

quoted for truth.

but ya this car is great, excellent economy car for the money. although it probably does not compare to the MB or BMW in terms of comfort and bling factor, you really should consider whether or not you need those things RIGHT now.

you'll also avoid all the headaches of the negative stereotypes of teens driving luxury cars. only problem here is that this car is in its first year of production so there are still those hidden gremlins to get rid of

if you dont pick the mazda3, a used car would also be a good choice, as this is your first car and you go to UT st george IIRC. i'd probably hold off on the nice cars till insurance was reasonable and i had a little more room to enjoy the car (damn packed downtown roads)

My vote goes to '04 TSX

Posted by: hotch

325!

Posted by: phatroyale

looks like im the only one.... my nod goes to an '02 IS300
over an '01 IS300 cuz of one thing, manual tranny

plus there were a ton of changes from 01 to 02

yes but 02's cost a considerably amount more...meaning the price gap between new and used isn't enough to justify used, also, I don't think it's a very good time to buy a new IS300 especially with a replacement coming for the 05 model year...

Posted by: techwiz

The Mazda3 seems to be a good car.

ic, but seriously overall any year is300 is worth a second look
the car is solid IMO.

the TSX is a very nice handling car for a FWD config. you should crossshop those two C

Posted by: edwinx

so what car are you getting?

Posted by: c^2

still undecided...
seeing this makes me want to get a CLK though...

u know how overpriced euro mods are.

true

well, u dun have to mod.
stock is good. providing its a good stock car.

just curious, do you have an image to keep while in university? like is your school pretty much superficial when it comes to this or do people not care?

yeah but the CLK looks so sweet modded up...gotta love euro mods...

I'm not too sure about the image thing since I've yet to own a car...let alone drive to school, but I think it all really depends on the people you mix with. One thing, however is that there are a lot of really nice cars down here at my school so whatever I drive it'll seem plebian in comparison.

yeah. euro mods are elegant....

hmm. if you want my 2cents.

i would either go with TSX or CLK.

the rest, i don't care for at all.

mazda is too ..."low", not much performance just got that fresh look.

is300, just looks + rwd. plus i don't like the style too much. it already looks like a "fad" like the style doesn't last long.

so all is left is the TSX and benz.

TSX, cause I like honda efficiency and overall build quality and reliability. and that you do get a lot of features for what you pay. (dun remind me about rwd, and v6. i don't think those are super needed features)

benz, cause if you want image, benz is better than bmw (which is like a civic for rich ppl. so many ppl have them. like everyone!)

so yeah. that's my take.

Posted by: Lagos

get a european car man. bmw or benz depending on your preference. as edwin said benz has more "image" than bmw but I like bmw design better. however benz is usually better built obviously.

benz or bmw...it's all good...

I'm a big big big bimmer fan but their new designs are heading in the wrong direction and seeing that CLK makes me think twice about mb...

too bad they don't offer a manual tranny on the CLK...

Posted by: Lagos

if you ask me, with your budget, I would get a 01-325Ci and spend the rest of the money on your mods(like audio etc.)

Posted by: edwinx

I'd go for the TSX for mods.

you'll get more out of it compared to the other cars.

Posted by: Koofteh

Don't you live at the U of T dorms in downtown Toronto? If so, what's the point of having a car?

Just curious, I'd go for a used CLK...3-series are too common. Maybe the TSX if you want a new car, Acura is great in terms of reliability and safety.

ahh...that's only gonna be for another 4 months or so...
after that...moving out

besides...a car is always nicer than the TTC (see sig )...it's not like I remain downtown ALL the time...

looks like it didn't go as planned...

funding got cut...budget is now 10k...
97 Prelude any good?

Posted by: mittens

that's a sucky cut

talon tsi for those canadian winters?

Posted by: Koofteh

That's cool. I wasn't gonna flame you or anything, I was just wondering about the situation.

It sucks that your budget got cut, I can't think of much for $10g. I wouldn't really buy a Prelude, I find them to be very overpriced. I dunno what your situation is, but could you take the $10,000 and lease/finance a car and then get a job to help pay for the payments?

hmm.. dunno about your area but i dun think you can get a 97prelude for 10K.

my 94integra still costs about 8.5-11K (depending on condition/owner).

so. unless you want to put in some of your own money you'll have to settle for something else.

i dun know about the other brands but for honda/acura. 10k can get you 94integra(non vtec) or just get an EG hatch and mod the hell out of it

or try other brands.

(i'm talking from experience in BC)

Posted by: c^2

hmmm I can find a few 97 Preludes for just around 10k but they're really high milage...approaching 200k...are they reliable at all?

I was thinking of using it to finance a cheap(er) car like a Mazda 3 or used IS300...

Posted by: web_matt

What about a Volkswagen? Then you get the whole European thing, just for alot less. Reliability as they age is sub par to Japanese, though... You can get a 1999 Golf for around $10000 or an older Jetta for that amount.
There are a few 1995ish Integras in the 8000-10000 range too.
You could also get a 1992 BMW 325 or Lexus ES300.
Just skim through the listings, pick out what you like, and then get peoples opinion on it. Go from there.
Good luck...

Posted by: Koofteh

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Although, I wouldn't lease/finance a used car if I were you though, they tend to rip you off to the max.

Since you like Bimmers so much, you might be able to get used ones. I know a 1995ish 318 goes for about $14,000, so you might be able to get an early '90s model for $10g.

I'm hearing horror stories about VW reliability...I have a friend with a 99 Passat and its electrical system had totally corroded by 03...now he drives a TSX and swore never to buy VW again.

I think I'll hold off getting a BMW until I have more to spend. Getting a really old bmw just for the sake of it being bmw is kinda ghetto imo...besides I don't really like the look of the previous E36 generation...

tough call.

200k is still 200k even for a honda.

preludes do burn a bit more oil than other hondas.

if well taken care(as if you'll really know), 200k is no prob...................
