SL56 - Tmobile?

I've got a new AT&T Wireless branded SL56, but their service is terrible -- I'd like to switch to TMobile. Would the SL56 work on it? Would I have to get it unlocked? What else would I have to do (other than eat the huge early cancellation charge?)

Thanks.

That phone would have to be unlocked for you to use it with T-Mo. If you are still within your 30 days with ATT you should consider returning that to them instead of paying their cancellation fee. I'm guessing that phone cost you about $100 from them, so $100 phone + $175 etf + $30 for unlocking = $305. If you look around you can probably find someone selling an SL56 or SL55 for that much or less unlocked.

Thanks! I got it from Amazon.com with a $250 rebate [I'd make $100 off the deal] so I'm considering using it for a month to get the rebate, then cancelling it, unlocking via gsmphonesource.com or something like that and then switching to T-mo. Sound like a decent idea?

I found out too late that ATT doesn't have GSM coverage here where I am half of the year (I'm a college student), so I'd be roaming on T-mo or Cingular.
