Handset Manager via DATA CABLE - help needed

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: errorgone

I've problem connecting PC to my GX20 , always "try to connect to the phone". I've tried selecting Menu->Applications->PCLink on the phone BEFORE and AFTER running the program but same message appears everytime. I've also tried both version of Handset Managers in the CD-ROM (that came with the phone) and also downloaded from Sharp website.

The cable is working fine as I have used it to unlock this phone before.

Anyone has any idea what's wrong? Please help.

Hello guys! I got a sharp gx20 with data cabel and it works fine for me. You just need to chose the right usb port in the Handset Manager program. If this dont work i got a update to the cabel.

Handset manager for gx10i and gx20

How to use the Usb data cabel for sharp phones step-by-step.

Install the sowftware downloaded from www.sharp-mobile.com

put the cabel into youre usb and the phone.

Now you shuld see a little icon on youre phone that looks like a cabel.

To see what usb port the cabel is using go into
Start->Settings->Control panel->System->hardware->Deivce manager->univeral Serial Bus controllers

Now start the program and go to options->interface setup the same port as shown in youre Deivce manager.

Now use the phone and chose Menu->Applications->PCLink.

Youre program will now find the cell-phone.

Set the max speed to 38400 in the IRDA properties of your PC. That should hopefully solve it

IRDa no problem for me!! ... only serial cable cannot work.

Posted by: andrewchan_5

try changing the settings of the handset manager software to DATA CABLE connection.

if it works by IRDA, then the initial setttings should be of IRDA connection, tht should explain why u cant transfer by data cable.

hope tht works

damnziruz that's all swell, but here's the problem:

the handset manager software only seems to allow yuou to seta a com port form 1 to 4....yet all those ports are occupied for me. the lowest avail;able one for me is 7...is there a way I can make the handset manager software "see" com port 7???

thanks a lot,

chris

I got my Serial cable today and have the same problems

Has anyone worked it out yet?

Posted by: Blazers4ever

First off guys, Handset Manager does NOT recognize the serial cable. You need a USB cable.

@chrislockwood

You can change the port (1-8) by clicking on the option button (in the Handset Manager software), and then select "interface option". From there you can select your port.

Posted by: Coopz

So what program do we need for a serial cable?

and why does the program ask what port the data cable is if its not supported?

Serial cables don't use ports. The program is asking for a port because it's looking for the USB cable connection.

I have no idea which program supports the serial cable for the GX20.

Try deleting the drivers and then reinstalling them. Also make sure that the port number of the driver matches the number that Handset Manager is set to. Refer to my post above on how to change the port number in case ports 1-4 are not available for the data cable.

Hi all.
I've been having the same problems here with my GX10.
Reinstall software this time with the phone turned off to start with!!!
Then when it prompts you to connect the cable, connect to port and phone THEN power phone!
Software should now succesfully find phone.....

Posted by: SilvaRSX

hey!! i got it to work!!! It's basically what ××××_ziruz said to do..
EXCEPT the part about checking what usb port you're using..

Start->Settings->Control panel->System->hardware->Deivce manager->PORTS

not the usb one.. and then when you plug into any of your USB ports, it should pop up and say prolific-usb-to-serial comm port (COM(X))... X depending on which usb port you plug it into.. then just follow the rest of his instructions.. give it a good 20seconds for it to find the handset manager.. worked for me!

I am using a GX22 w/ the software from sharp-mobile the gx20 software.

ask me if you have any more questions!
