Backlight on M55

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi, I just looked at the M55 and it seemed that there's no backlight for the little "answer" button. Is this normal?

By the way, I was looking at the Fido's version of M55.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

under normal light, it doesn't look like the key has backlit. But when u use backlit in darkness, the answer key actually has back light... (at least to me). I don't find difficult to see the key in dark.

Thanks, it seems that the one my brother has is defective then. The power button has backlight but the answer key doesn't have any backlight even in complete darkness.

I am not so sure about this. I did read some reviews that saying M55 answer key does not have a backlit. But to me I don't find any trouble reading the key in the dark. Maybe you should call Fido or Siemens to make sure before you return the phone.

i think I got a clue why the answer key does not look like it has backlit.
why? cuz the answer key is colored in green, and backlit is red! so the overall effect looks like there is no backlite (red+green=black, but since red light is much stronger than the green colored face, so when u turn on backlight, the answer key may turn to dull pink which is less obvious)... only in the darkness, the red light is more observable...

vice versa, the power key looks brighter than other keys cuz it is already red colored (red+red = redder? )

so to check if ur answer key has backlit, turn on the backlight and see if answer key turns dull pink from original green color...

For those who don't get it, excuse my bad english

under normal light i can not see the answer key light up either, becuase of the green key and red backlight thing, but in the dark its fine ( a little dimmer then the rest but it still shows up)

In normal light, I don't see the answer key lighting up either. However, in a completely dark room, I don't see it lighting up also. Since most of you guys said that your one lights up, I would assume that it would be my unit that is defective.

In the completely dark room, when I sneak at the little gap around the power button, I could see there's some light from behind. For the answer button, I couldn't see the light from behind. So, that's another clue.

Thanks you guys.

i already have been pm'ing w/ EddiePCS and found that mine doesn't have the backlight on the send. I had two in front of me.. and what i did notice that someoene else had posted earlier.. the LCD is more dim on the one with the backlight on send key.

I've tried changing background image, contrast, illumination and color scheme and it was still NOTICABLY different.

just an FYI for all those who just got their fone.. I've seen at least another 4-5 fones and this is the first one i've noticed like that.. and didn't look for the backlight key on the others.. both made in germany.

oh well wat do you expect for $5.75. =)

for those who are curious..

the dimmer one kinda reminds me the t68m when it first came out.. and then when the t68i came out.. the backlight was noticabily brighter.. that's kinda the diff i see.

So are there two different versions of this phone then? One without a backlight on the Send key and one with?

I remember reading a couple of user reviews and posts at club-siemens.com listing the no backlight on the Send button as a con so this I knew about before even buying the phone...

I have a backlight on mine, that's clearly visible in a moderately dark place.

Can anyone post pics of what the backlight on the "Send" or "Answer" key looks like?

mines fine too (m56)

Checked my M55 in complete darkness.. no backlight at all even at 100% illumination.. very strange...

i also have no aircraft check on mine..

could it be a newer version of the m55???

my P date is 2003-11-25, SW: 09 and Varient A 950

hit *#06# and then info to get more info

maybe its two diff. productions of the m55!!

my have a same prob too... i'm still on my 15day return time so i'm just going to return it .........

even if the replacement phone don't have backlight on the send key i would't mind much becose the other problem on my phone is that the battery is not lasting...mid javaing and the battery only last about 2 day max(15+-min of gaming a day)

I can see dim red light on SEND key when Illumination is at 100% in complete darkness.

P. Date: 2003-11-27
SW Version 09
SW Date 2003-08-01
Variant: A 950

S30880-S6300-A950-1
Made in Germany

BTW I also have "Document too large for available memory" problem on GPRS

I don't have a back light on mine and it has the same date as above 11/27/03.
What about turning on the light with the press of any button when phone locked so you can see the time?
Thanks
Allan

During screensaver (analog clock), mine will turn on only after pressing three (different or same) number keys, or by holding the power key.

BTW I upgraded to Firmware 10 and the "Document too large for available memory" problem is still there. I also tried beta Firmware 11, it didn't help either.

Fido's version of the phone is different than the European model.

In Europe the buttons themselves are orange, whereas the model Fido has, the buttons are black and the numbers/letters glow orange. This is maybe why the answer button is glowing on some phones and others it isn't.

I have the Fido model and the call/answer button does not glow. This is normal.
