What Type of Midi's to Use!?!

I fear this may be on the verge of beating a dead horse, but after just recently acquiring a 4400 and the required data cable I am curious how to get some good ringtones for my phone. I know there are a PLETHORA of sites out there offering them, but the one thing I noticed is that those clips normally sound awesome on my computer and then rather crappy (static-y?) on the phone.

This poses my question of what type of a midi really performs the best on a 4400 phone? I've heard dual and mono, 30 seconds time limit, plus different kbs, and then in the mix I hear about mmf's and qcd's. I don't even have a clue what the latter two are other than another form of sound clip.

Forgive my ignorance if it has been answered 100x over, but the search button just didn't provide the results I was hoping to find. A clear answer on this would be awesome so I could create my own stuff. Actually I guess I would co-create as my musician buddy will be using his talents to create the songs and my part will be simply to get it to work on our phones.
