Someone mentioned 3 hours, but the service person said more like 10 minutes. Oh well my cable is on the way and I'm looking forward to playing around! |
| Next I use WINAMP to convert it into a 44khz mono wav file...right click on the top bar then VISUALIZATION >>> SELECT PLUG IN >>> OUTPUT under the Plug-ins section >>> Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in. There you can adjust the output of the file..what khz and all that. Play the file and it outputs a .wav file. Remember to change the plug in back to what you had originally otherwise anything you try to play will turn into a wav file. |

Originally posted by vice86 I'm not using Sound Forge, but this is how I get MP3's into my 8900 Tools: Radio Shack VX6000 Data Cable (if you don't have one you could always email thru vzwpix.com or Outlook Express...you have to join vzwpix.com) Bitpim .7 MP3Trim Winamp 2.91 Audio Catalyst 2.1 Make sure the final converted mp3 is UNDER 100K in size. If anyone can add to my info to make it easier...please do. I've done it this way and it works for me. MP3Trim cuts off music from the beginning and ends of an MP3...you just need to enter the time/frame of what you want cut off...so I use this to cut an MP3 down to about 10-15 seconds of a part of the song I wanna use for a ring. Once a .wav file I take it into Audio Catalyst 2.1 (Audio Grabber is the free version but not sure if its set up the same) and set the mp3 bit rate to about 48-64kbps mono and convert that .wav into an .mp3 file and then changing the extention to .mid (make sure you have HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWS FILE TYPES unchecked so it shows the file extention.....just hit My Computer and then in the menu bar of that new window, go under TOOLS >>> FOLDER OPTION >>> VIEW and its under the "hidden files and folders" section. Once you changed that to .mid, and aslong as you already have a .mid file seeded in your cell...you use your data cable with the Bitpim app and overwrite the .mid file you have in your cell already. If you don't have a data cable, you can always email yourself the .mid (.mp3) file to xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzwpix.com (youhave to sign up there) and then just save the file into your MEDIA folder and set that for the ring. Only thing that sucks is the .mid file you add doesn't loop, so it will only ring once. I have my phone set to vibrate and ring. |

Originally posted by vice86 duckdude...I just got my phone and tested it out and got it to work using Outlook...ill tell you how I did it and it should work for you...I think you need to set up an acct at vzwpix.com cuz you'll need to use that for your emailing address...thats if your a Verizon customer. First you should start out with some simple midi files. You can get video game midis at http://www.vgmusic.com/ or general music midi files at http://www.mididb.com/ I tried to make sure they were under 100K in size...most are. I dl'd a bunch of game midis to my desktop, then using outlook I emailed myself the midi file to xxx-xxx-xxxx@vzwpix.com My phone gets the email and when you retrieve it you'll here a sample of it play...click the top left button to SAVE TO MEDIA...it will be stored in your media folder. To make it your ringtone, go into your SETTINGS, SOUNDS, RINGER TYPE, RINGER...get into your RINGER options and hit left or right to get to DOWNLOADS...select MEDIA and select your tone out of there. Should work just like that...did for me. |

Originally posted by acf Never tried all that. I.. 1) Use MP3Trim to cut the (MP3) file part I want. 2) Convert attributes in CDEX http://www.mp3-converter.com/cdex.htm 3) Overwrite file via datacable (with Bitpim). Done.

CDEx, I don't even see how you can open a file to modify. WinAmp...that doesn't give me that option either. Maybe I downloaded the wrong versions? Can someone please help me out...? |

Originally posted by kabish Has anyone ever been charged for using http://www.vzwpix.com to send THEMSELFS pictures/midi files?? The reason why I'm asking is because I've seen alot of people say that its costing them 25 cents to send up ring tones from vzwpix.com. Acording to their FAQ you are NOT charged for sending pictures/txt/midi if your sending it to your own phone. This is the #1 question in the FAQ section of their site. I just got off the phone with *611 and they told me it was 25 cents, but once I pointed out this site they said it was free. So I was just wondering if anyone has gotten charged for sending the pictures to their own phone. (being logged in as your phone number on vzwpix.com) |

Creating and Sending Messages 1. Does it cost me to send picture messages from Pix Place? No, however, if you send a picture message to a friend's Verizon Wireless phone, he/she will be charged for receiving either a picture message or a text message, depending on what type of phone they have. |

Originally posted by Waruwaru You can get Midi ringtone by sending it to your phone number as stated above, but when I tried to get the monkey.png onto my phone and save the media, the phone scales the pic for some reason. Bah! I send the same png to my regular mail account, the pic is not scaled. Maybe I should try to send pics with different resolutions. Probably still need the data cable to get games onto the 8900. From what I remember, there is a 30 meg .zip file with lots of midis, floating around on the net. |

Originally posted by greentheory thanks so much! I don't know how to make a clip of the mp3 without converting it to wav, so I'll do this. Here is the original, full length mp3: bananaphone.mp3 What I want of that is seconds 5-21 or, if you can use it, I made the clip I want my converting it to wav and editing in sound recorder. The clip of exactly what I want is here: bananaphone.wav hopefully you can work with that

Originally posted by Droopy Drawers I just made my own tones for the first time, and sent them to my phone as two emails attachments, and I'm getting a message that says "attachement dropped" on both of them. Is this because it is too large? I believe they where both about 200k each, and I read how someone has done a 300k file with no problem. The attached where .mp3, should I convert them into a .mid? or just change the file extention when I resend it? Thanks to all the modern day phone freaks!!! |

Originally posted by acf Yes, I believe it will only play it once. And you should get a data cable.

at myself reading how people are getting it to work and I cant figure it out. PLEASE HELP!!! email: stumpyd2002@yahoo.com THANKS!

Originally posted by greentheory woohoo! I got CDex and MP3trim, made one for my friend, and it works! now to spend all my money sending myself ringtones... this is so awesome. thanks for all the help oh.. and for the record, if anyone ever tries to send an mp3 to the vx-6000, I was told by my friend that the max filesize is 30k. The longest clip I could get on her phone was 6 seconds at 24kbps. Then again, that phone apparently will repeat the ringtone over and over until you pick up. From what I understand, the 8900 will only play it once, right? |
|
Originally posted by greentheory as far as getting it to work, I couldn't either, but then I got CDex and MP3trim as someone suggested, and i got it to work fine. I set CDex to do mpeg layer 2, and I think 24kbps, and mono. After encoding the mp3 like that, and trimming it down to a good size with MP3 trim, I got it to work just fine. you can find both programs by searching for them on google. I think they are the first result for each one, if I remember correctly |

I was so clueless on how to do this until I read your post. Thanks a million. I just have one question. How can I get the phone to play the clip over and over. Is that possible. If so, how. Thanks again for all your help.

They say it's a software thing. Hopefully the Audiovox people will do something about that soon.

Originally posted by duckdude Claysheart--I had the same problem, as I posted up there ^^. The only thing I changed, after which it worked, was sending the tone from a different mail client (Outlook Express, instead of my usual Mozilla Thunderbird). Why this worked, I have no idea. But my phone cheerfully plays the Odd Couple theme now, sometimes varied with "Incense and Peppermints" and the Peanuts music. Good luck! |

Originally posted by acf How big are the files you are sending? If you want to link one here I can check it out when I get a chance. |

Originally posted by claysheart One is 60.9 kb and one is 90.1kb One is 20 seconds in length, the other 30 seconds (30 secs. being what I thought is recommended length). How do I link one here? I put them to a website (off area) and not only do they not play, as soon as you push "play" it shoots to the "end". I have a feeling I am overlooking something very obvious and very crucial. claysheart |

Originally posted by acf Ok, your files are fine, they play on my phone after copying them to it via my cable. We need to look at your emailing method. Please post in detail what program you are using, what address you are sending them to, how you are saving them on your phone, etc. |
|
Originally posted by cantcme Claysheart, are you sending it to number@vzwpix.com, or number@vtext.com? You should be sending it to number@vzwpix.com. If that's not the problem, try sending it through another email. |
Many thanks.|
Originally posted by acf Not a problem, glad I could help. Like cantcme said, email them to cell#@vzwpix.com not vtext.com and see what happens. |

Originally posted by cantcme Glad you got it working, now you can brag about your ringtones. Congrats. (figured i'd join the party) |
