Bell phone on SaskTel network

Hello, I wanted to buy a no-contract (full price) Bell phone and activate it on the SaskTel network. They are service provider partners so there technology is compatible.
I called a dealer in Regina and they say that Bell doesn't lock their phones so it's no prob, but I hear they do lock their phones.
Do they lock them?
If so, how do i unlock them? Can I pay someone to do it like a GSM? I'm pretty techie-smart if there's info somewhere on how
to do it.
Will Bell unlock it for me if I pay the full price for the phone?
Thanks,
TK

I gotta admit, I'm a little confused by SaskTel's website.

http://www.sasktelmobility.com/prod...lar_phones.html

They have, apparently, the exact same phones as Bell Mobility. They show the Slider and the Vox8450, although they don't list them as their available products. I'm curious, what BM phone do you want?

In answer to your questions.

Bell does lock the phones, and you won't get a programming lock code out of them. I don't know if paying the unsub price on one of them means that they'll unlock it for you. I don't know why you would want to spend hundreds of dollars more to get the exact same phone from Bell Mobility.

I've released many lock codes to customers/ Sasktel dealers for BM phones..... however these have been in cases where the customer was with Bell Mobility for say 1 year, and they have a year left on their LTC, They can assume the rest if their contract with Sasktel...... so they fax the new agreement with Sasktel to Bell, we deact their BM service, and walk them thru programming ( or the Sasktel Dealer).... you get the drift.
I didn't think you could just walk into a Bell World store and buy a phone without hooking it up to Bell Service.. otherwise Unsub prices would take effect........ ( But DJ or Shaner would better be able to answer that one)

I am curious also why you would want to go thru all that hassle.. when Sasktel has the same phones ( with the exception you have the sooped up 120'e' )
I am sure the phones are almost identical in PRL programming, software etc.
I beleive MTS Mobility in Manitoba does not lock their phones, however Bell and Aliant do!

we do not sell phones at unsub prices...meaning every phone that leaves our store is activated...we do not give out lock codes...if BM wants to, that is their discretion, as its their financial interests we are protecting...the advantage of a bell owned store is that it is always looking out for big brother.

I'm 3/4s of my way through my contract at SKTel and I need a new phone (my Nokia is totally crap). Unfortunately SKTel dealers rip you off if you buy a phone without contract (or even with a contract).
I can upgrade my phone at the 3/4 mark in my contract, but I'd have to renew for another 2 years. I'm moving to BC in two months so I want to switch providers at that time.
I'm looking at a CDMA flip.. something small but with a long battery life and an alarm clock. I don't care about much else. I use my phone a lot because I don't have a land line.
I was thinking about the Audiovox 8600 <- I think that's the model #... I don't want a camera or need a colour screen or any of that.
Anyway, thanks for your comments all.

How much is the buyout with SKTel if you are 3/4 through?
It might in your best interest to get a Bell phone now ( with a BC number) and just throw it on a Real Time Cnada plan till you move..
Just use Roamer access nums in Sask till you leave

Hahahaha----"soooped up"

Yeah, I would agree that if you're moving in a couple of months, you might want to get a Bell phone with a BC number now. Then put your Sasktel phone on temporary suspension for the rest of your term with them, if they allow that.
