Hi everyone - I had a question - I went to a website (www.unlockitnow) that seems to promise to be able to unlock a Siemens M55 from it's IMEI number - is this possible?

They are also asking $35US for this. Cable costs cheaper, you can unlock the phone and use cable for other stuff.

This is true - the cable only cost me $30 - I am just curious about if it is possible. I managed to download a program that calculates the unlock code for Nokia's (worked like magic on an 8390) - I figure a remote unlock on the M55 would have to work on the same principle...

you can not remotely unlock the m55. you need a data cable. save your money.

They have an option on their toll free cust support line, if the phone is not PUK locked they will give you the unlock code for free! Why waste your money! CALL THEM

I have called them several times, 888-777-0211, and I have never heard an option for them to unlock. Are you talking about the subsidy unlock? It just seems kind of odd that they would unlock it without the providers request. If they do then that is fantastic, but i wish someone else knew this for sure.

anyway, hopefully someone replies soon, this thread will be deleted very shortly.

Siemens actually gives you the unlock code for free? That rocks - absolutely - I mean I don't think I've seen any other Cell phone maker put their latest firmware on their website to download, but this really takes the cake.
Just out of curiosity, what is a PUK lock? This is the Fido M55 and I eventually want to take it to Asia to use on Etisalat / Orange...

hehe, i thought it was too good to be true.

PUK- Pin Unlock Code

It is like a reset code for your sim basically. if you enter your pin code wrong too many times in a row, the phone will lock and wont let you unlock it. So you have to enter the PUK code to reset the pin code.

at the toll free number I was told they will unlock your phone so you can use it at another carrier. Mine was alreday unlocked when i got it, but I also know there is software floating around to do it. They told me (siemens cust support) at the 800 number they cant unlock the puk code but can unlock the phone so you can use it with another carrier. I hope this is true because someone i know ordered an m55 fido ohoneand plans to unlock it, stay tuned!

Yes I would be very interested to hear if they did this. Personally i think it would be against their policy, because in a way, they would be screwing the provider.

Maybe they don't see it that way as most people sign up on contracts and are locked in...in any case, let's cross our fingers and see if someone can confirm this...

Ive called them up and they specifically say that they cannot unlock they phone for you in a prerecorded message. I donno maybe it works in different Countrys but in canada it doesnt work. So somone else in another country give them a call and lets c what happens.
