What driver should I use with the OEM cable?

I keep hearing people saying that I should use the Futuredial drivers, but I haven't seen a consensus on that.
Reason I ask is because I strugle with bitpim(the right one) and I strugle even more when connecting my laptop to the net(either 1x or QNC).
Maybe we should have a driver FAQ.

When you get the cable from Verizon it comes with 2 CDs, one is the LG drivers and one is the Verizon stuff. I just installed the drivers from LG, rebooted and then plugged the phone in. All went well. No problem with Bitpim (the vx6000 version), I have yet to try the modem thing.

Which cable do you have? Futuredial? 1XExpress? eBay cable?
I have the Official Verizon cable that I use on one computer with the Verizon software and LG drivers. Phone is set to USB. I do all my contact management this way.
I have the Futuredial cable that I use on another computer with the BitPim software and Prolific Serial drivers. Phone is set to RS-232. I do all the other stuff with this (i.e. ringtones, wallpaper, filesystem, etc.).
I have had no problems once I got the correct version of BitPim, and forced my Com port to be 1-4.
I also bought the eBay cable (that appears to be USB), which I hope to replace the Futuredial cable with, due to slowness using RS-232. I bought it also for the stuff that came on the CD. I havent messed with it yet.
I know there is at least one thread on this subject. Try searching for "cable", or "1xexpress", or "eBay cable" or "bitpim". Here is an old thread I found:

Please dont flame me if I gave any wrong info. Just correct it nicely.
Thanks

Sumo, you must have me confused with one of the no-self-steem search nazis that like to spend time complaining about people wasting their time. That's just not me.
It's funny because they waste my time when I read them thinking that they have something intelligent to say. It's even more funny when the search engine on this forum sucks so much.
I searched for "driver" and "drivers" and that page never came out. And guess what, I searched for 'cable' and that didn't come out either. I even tried loging in, but no results either. Heck, I tried searching for the word"phone" on posts older than a month and nothing came out.... You see my point.
Anyway, sorry for wasting your time with my runt, but no flames for you. Even if you didn't notice that I had specified OEM cable on the title
I know people never read the title again.
So I do have the OEM cable(Sumo) and I did install the CD drivers(Gedster). And I can sync with the LG software rather easily(don't remember any problems) when I used their phone book utility. But I still have problems with bitpim and the dialer.
With bitpim, it recognizes the phone and I get to select either port 4 or 5, depending on which usb port I use. But something stops it from making a full connection.
Now thanks to you (flame-retardant words), someone on that thread gave me the idea of using XP's dialer. So I'll try that. Even though it doesn't solve bitpim's problem. Maybe I just can't use the OEM cable with bitpim like that thread suggested.
If anyone knows that fo shizle, please let me know. Sorry, for my bad use of the language here

I know you say you have the OEM cable, but I am not sure which one that is. From what I understand there are at least 4 distinct cables right now:
Verizon
FutureDial
1XExpress
eBay
Maybe someone else out there can clarify this question:
Do you need a cable that emulates the RS-232 protocol (usually the cable has a little box inline) to use BitPim?
Both my Verizon cable and my Futuredial cable have a little box inline. They both work fine. The cable that I bought from eBay has no box, and I presume it is a strictly USB cable (no true RS-232 support). Of course, this is the one I have not tested yet.
Just a question, what do you have the port set to on the phone?
Settings-1X Data-Select Port (9-6-2). I know for BitPim I have to set it to RS-232 every time, as it resets when you leave the menu.
I also remember reading somewhere that it needed to be COM port 1-4 for BitPim.

wow, thanks again sumo. By OEM I meant the Verizon cable. Now you truly confused me, which is nothing to brag anyway.
I thought that RS-232 was only for Futuredial cables'. And that the Verizon cable was able to use the USB port on the phone.
I'm trying now with the RS-232 but the phone is not being recognized at all by Verizon's dialer (quicklink). When I turn it back to usb, it recognizes but it doesn't connect.
Now I've tried with XP's dialer and it goes thru the dialing, then verifying user name and password, then it gives an error saying that it could not connect to the remote computer. So I checked Hardare Flow control for the modem and it worked.
Will report back with BitPim, later on.

This is when I let my beard grow and start running all over the country.
I just installed bitpim on my laptop. Had the phone as USB an it worked on my first try. Then I changed it to RS-232 and it also worked on my first try
So now I'm gonna have to wait till I have problems again to test the RS-232 idea with bitpim. In the mean time, I'll be using XP's dialer as it worked fine as well. But not with RS-232!
No wonder people new to computers have a hard time with them. Try to explain shyt like that.
PS.
Now my speedtest shows 111kbps download instead of the 52kbps I had when I first tested it. That's ISDN speeds!!

Just to update. I am now using express network with the verizon OEM cable and LG drivers that came with OEM boxed cable. It has worked flawlessly with Bitpim. All this was done using XP.
I still haven't found a satisfactory way of doing it in linux. Looks like Win4lin or Vmware maybe in my future.

LOFO - I have the Verizon OEM cable also. Phone should be set to USB. Make sure you are using the modified BitPim for the LG 6000. I am using Widows 2000 and everything works well.
