A56>C56 conversion

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: blackice168

I heard that you can convert the A56 into the C56 by flashing the C56 firmware onto the A56. Is this true? where can I find the C56 firmware? Will my phone still work if I flash C55 firmware onto my A56?

what are the major different between those 2 firmwares...

Posted by: orakle22

i dont think this is possible, man, the C56 has a different keypad arrangement and it adds on GPRS, there's gotta be some extra chip required for that or something.... best of luck but don't hold your breath, dont be surprised if you toast your A56 trying. In any case you can probably get C56 firmware right from Siemens, as they encourage users to download f/w and flash their own phones.

Posted by: Sting

It is possible!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keybord doesnt metter, it the same bottons
I just flashed my (Fido)A56 to (Rogers)C56, unlocked
Workes beautifuly - polyphonic ringtones, woice recording, Java, GPRS.
Ask If you need any info. But dont do it if you are not sure what to do!!!

Posted by: blackice168

I have the cable all i need now is the firmware and maybe the steps to doing it.

Can you please post the steps to upgrading the a56?

Posted by: kekko

Cool if you could post a link to the flash file needed that would be appreciated Sting...

If it's too big to post and you need a place to host it, PM me and I will upload it for people to get it...

BTW is the firmware Rogers branded or just Siemens branded? How did you come across it? - copy from a Rogers phone or download somewhere?

LOL I've been googling for the last couple of days in my spare time to no avail.

Posted by: daikinhy

Sting I'm sure do it, and need the files; firmware and eeprom from C56 you can send me? please!!! daikinhy@hotmail.com or upload in a website!!

P.D: in extension *.FLS if you can (read whit freesiemens.exe)

Posted by: Sting

OK all information I used.Use it if you really knaw why and what are you doing!
1)Download this RAR(PDF inside) file - it's instruction for A55>C55 conversion in russian but with perfect pictures, step by step(don't miss any).
2)Download this C56 fullflash & eeprom in RAR as well.

You'll NOT need EEPROM included in download 2 - you'll use your own EEPROM blocks, read with Siemens EEPROM Tool!

Follow the instructions do exectly the same steps: in FREIRA software your phone selection should be A55!!!And C55 when it will be needed!!!! but use your C56 fullflash not the flash you can get by the link in PDF file.
All other programs (two) you download using links inside!

If you have any problems with understanding russian I can help.... I just did not want to translate all text but pictures are intuitively easy to understend.

I had some difficulties using Freira in WinXp Pro SP 1a so I did writing in Win ME.But XP can work for you.

I have All that stuff on HD so I can e-mail it to you if links do not work.

If you need WinRar I can mail it to you or give you some link but don't be laizy use some GOOGLE.WinRAR 3.2 + crack

Good luck!

Posted by: Sting

Corection
1)I used Siemens EEPROM Tool v.2.2.1 insted of v2.2(it workes better pinging your phone few times)
2)After you press INIT botton, press on/off bt ones shortly

Other
I use aftermarket cable from the Pacific Mall(thank you guys who first discovered that spot) made on PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller.New drivers for it can be downloaded from here

Flash is Rogers Branded, I found it with help of one man at siemens-club.ru!(big THANKS to him)

I encountered a problem after loading the C56.fls... phone won't boot up now. For step 7 in that eeprom program, is it delete or save? I clicked save because it was outlined in red, but the delete button is highlighted in the program, which one is it Sting?

BTW reverting to my A56 flash is ok so I think it's maybe something else inbetween I missed...

/phone won't boot up now/
You have to read your EEPROM blockes form your A56 fullflash first
I'll Tranlate few Steps, I think you had no problems with flashing with Freia
1.Charge you acc fully!
.....
4.Save blockes of EEPROM(67,5005,5007,5012,5093) using Siemens EEPROM Tool:
#1#Choose COM-port
#2#Conect the phone,enter Service Mode(Press INIT botton)
#3#Read all EEPROM blockes(load all bt)
#4#Choose 67,5005,5007,5012,5093 blocks of EEPROM
#5#Copy blocks to the left side(<= bt)Picture is not really correct becouse you'll have all blocks in right side list and 5 in left.
#6#Mark(choose) all five blocks
#7#Save blocks, any name in *.eep format
#8#Exit Service Mode
5.
6.
7.
8.Write EEPROM blocks wich you've read From your backup A56 flash.
#1#Same
#2#
#3#Load saved blocks
#4#Choose that blocks
#5#Copy blockes to the right side(>= bt)
#6#Mark them on the right side
#7#Save only marked blocks to the phone
#8#Exit
Your phone should boot after that and it will not boot after flashing only.

What about you kekko????

Posted by: mosquito_R

Congratulations to those of you who did the conversion successfully! I was wondering if any one of you used the USB cable like this one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...item=3070020856
I'm in the process of getting one. I also have Freia build 8 and the EEPROM tool as supplied by Sting.

Do I have everything I need? Or do I really need a serial cable or other software? If so, please post here or PM me. I'm a complete newbie to this, but I would love to give it a try!

Your help would be much appreciated!

GUYS, IT'S !!!NOT!!! POSSIBLE TO MAKE 55 - 56/56 - 55 CONV.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UNLESS YOU WORK WITH MICROELECTRONICS AND CAN DO SOME PHISICAL CHANGES(BUT IT WOULD NOT BE WORTH OF TIME AND MONEY).
NOT WITH !!!SOFTWARE!!!
WHY DON'T YOU DO A55 to C55/A56 TO C56 AND BACK IF YOU NEED?????????

Posted by: AU_rulz

hey sting, the GPRS WORKS???!?!?!? so, like, you can surf the net?

Posted by: Sting

It should work
It's my syster's phone and she does not use internet so I haven't activate it yet.
But I'm not shure, if I'll do it I'll tell you.

Anyways I have GPRS symbol on it

Posted by: AU_rulz

hey sting, could you please verify the gprs for me? it's the main reson i want to convert to a c56. And also, did u try the polyphonic sounds, and voice recorder? Please, i would REALLY aprreciate it if you could tell me. the gprs logo at the top of the screen might always be there, reardless if gprs is connected or not.

THANX!!!!!!

Posted by: Sting

polyphonic sound, voice recorder and speakerphone work perfect

about GPRS I now that icon tels you nothing , but now I just have no time to do that.
But i think it should work because somebody would mention somewhere about any difference between original...........

I'll try to activate later and you can try to convert.

It's possible to go back anytime and there are few more reasons:
*ringtones that you can record or download with cable
*and java applets(progs and games) wich you can write using data cable as well.
This reasons were main for me because my sister doesn't use wap and I have M55.
But except color screen and size of memory I do not see big difference btween M5x and C5x
you can PM me your mail if you want and I'll write you as soon as I'll do it but I don't wanna promise anything.
And try to ask other people who did it.

Good Luck!

PS I tried to apply graphic pathches: I drew new background for clock using SiemensPictureChanger. Lookes much better than original!!!

Cingular a56 to cingular c56

please respond. also which cable is best usb or serial?

It doesn't metter you still will unlock your phone during prosidure so you will be able to use any other provider's chip as well.
Cable: I use USB and it's OK and many people use serial and I don't think they have ahy problems. Just look for A/C/M 55.Around 30$ in Toronto. If you are from Toronto go to the pacific Mall.Find topic 'M55 data cable' on this forum.

Posted by: hchishtie

I got the cable of the ebay for round 10 us $. I will get it in few days and then will do the conversion.Sting the only hting that is not clear to me is that are you using teh freira prog. or somethign else to flash the phone. And one more thing. What is teh percentage of completely toasting your phone in this procedure?

Posted by: Sting

Freia v. less than 8 (7 maybe)
You have link inside PDF!!!!!!!!!!!!Use that Version! Why not?

Around 1%(accident) if you've read this topic completely and your hands and head are oK

STING....THANK YOU! It works....................... =) =) =) =)

Just so Sting doesn't have to bother activating GPRS on his account, I have just successfully converted my A56 to C56 following the PDF instructions, and can confirm it works WELL.

( Where I went wrong before was with the selecting of the items in the eeprom reader program - didn't realize they needed to be highlighted in blue).

Thanks for the help Sting!

GPRS works great with the Fido settings...

----- copied from another thread -----
rename to fido wap
homepage: wap.fido.ca
session mode: permanent
connection security: off
data bearer: GPRS
GPRS connection: when needed
GPRS access point: wap.fido.ca
IP address: 205.151.011.011
authentication type: normal
login type: automatic
user:fido
password:fido
(remember to once again activate this GPRS account)
--------
I used the same IP for both primary and secondary, and left all else as the default except where information differed...

If there are lots of people on here with the cables and phones that really want to do this but are running into difficulties, I may write up a proper doc and host the files for an easy to follow instruction...PM me if you fall under this category. All in all, the information provided in this thread should suffice though. Remember if you follow the Read first write second as in the PDF, you can always GO BACK to an A56 if you mess it up somehow...this is your BACKUP.

Speakerphone works good too...so obviously the hardware for the A56 and C56 are identical...

I haven't tried the rest of the rest of the things in there, but it seems absolutely identical to the C56's I bought from futureshop on boxing day. It even boots up saying welcome to Rogers AT&T, etc. It's amazing you can add all those features and all just with a flash cable. Makes the phone worth all that much more.

Now if I can only toast all the Rogers AT&T crap off the boot screen etc.... any thoughts?

2kekko I did it too (GPRS) I just sent PM to AU_rulz as confirmation.
About Rogers logo:
Delete files from folder named 'Provider Logo' or something like that and you'll get Brand Siemens on and off logos.

Same hardware, different software, really diffirent functions - all this meens that siemens is cheating people.
But we are smarter
And we still like SIEMENS!

Posted by: ProzacBob

Well fellas, looks like my provider decided those couple files were drawing too much bandwidth and killed my webspace...

Either that, or the server is just dead... So as of right now, the files will probably be unaccessible... if anyone needs them pm me an ill email it over...I might toss it up onto BTI's webstorage later today...

It's my first time unlocking my phone and first-ever flashing/upgrade and it all worked!!!

A big THANKS to Sting for providing all these instructions, and also to Gaunt_911 for your encouragement and more software goodies!

And to all those who are still stuck on deciding whether to do this upgrade or not... well, it's completely worth it! I followed Sting's instructions and it all came through without a hitch! Give it a try!

So, my question to you all is: How can I access the Provider logo bit? With which software?

Also, well, Siemens isn't really cheating us: they did themselves a favour by making one group of hardware that'll function as two different phones for two price ranges. Hey... at least Siemens didn't overcharge us on the price of the A56.

Oh.. one more thing... Could somebody please help me with the GPRS bit on Fido? I've input those settings but they didn't seem to work...

THANKS!

CHEERS!!!

You can use Freia V. 8 and just select the C55 instead...that should work fine...

If not, then search for i believe its called Siemens Service Toolbox. A one click unlocking program for both a56/a55's and c56/c55's.

Edit: As for the provider logo, you must enable your phone with the java enabler and then use Siemens Data Exchange Software to access it.

First: to browse your phone as a disk useQuick EEPROM Features 3.3
Check box Enable DES but if you wanna you can check other ones:
>Disable aerocheck - disables request for making records' copy from SIM to Adress Book after change of SIM card.
>Enable DevMenu Activation - Enables Developer Menu wich you can ecces by pressing '#' button in MENU section.
>Enable Band Selection - ...........
After DES activation instal DES v.267(2.9Mb) or Siemens Data Suite(31Mb)
Than you should access phone easily but I still have problems with this: phone conection often sucks and I have to reboot phone or even computer sometimes. But still, I can operate files even if it takes time.

Use freia on the full flash file, then write the necessary componenents of the EEPROM...

People say you can do it with the eeprom flash in freia but that has never worked for me and im the one that created these files. but you do what you want.

Personally i just used the siemens eeprom writer and wrote in those exact blocks that are enumerated in the russian document.

Hey this thread is extremely interesting, I've ordered a serial cable from ebay b/c of it. I thank you for the info.

I found this site, http://free.bol.bg/c55/ , which talks about patching the C55 and more, but I dont know if these tricks work for the C56. I've sent him an email. I'll keep you guys posted.

Posted by: ProzacBob

Unfortunately those patches do NOT work for the C56, as the eeprom blocks are a bit different. Some may, but you can very easily mess up the eeprom on ure phone...nuttin a backup cant fix but whatever.

What you can do however is to find the address of what to change is to open the eeprom file in a hex editor and search for the "old" bytes in it, then you can make your own patch file. However, if its a single bit change, chances are you'll be hard pressed to find which one it is on the C56 as there are a lot of bits that are the same.

I did that to invert my lcd screen and it worked fine, but that one was fairly easy....

Have fun...dont kill your phone fellas

Posted by: boflex03

Inverted LCD!? Do you mean the colors!?
That sounds really cool man, could you please send me the patch for that??

Posted by: daikinhy

BUeno aqui les va en español, los pasos tal y como los postea sting no tiene pierde, revisar el purto y dar click en it para el EEPROm an no problem!!!!!

Posted by: blackice168

Did you first have to do the crc patch then the inverted screen patch?

if u dont mind can u sent the patches to me...or a back-up of ur firmware?

Finally i got the cable in today after 3 weeks of ordering. But now wehn i am trying to flash it the spftware is waiting for phone to power on. I pressed the power button but it did nothing. Does it mean i got a bad cable?

Posted by: mosquito_R

Please check your settings again, make sure the proper COM port is selected. Also, your SIM card should be out.
If you got one of those cables with charging ability, please try not to charge the phone while doing the flash.

Hope this helps... and all the best!

I tried all the ports but i cant get any connection to the phone. I know my ports are fien as i sue them for my palm pilot. I even tried on my other but no luck. So i am assuming i am also a victim of bogus data cable of the ebay.
I might have to find a place where i can buy hte workng cable. But here in this town in Alabama we dont have any stores that would cell stuff like that. I know a cell phone palce in our flea market. Maybe he can order soemthing.

I dont know if u tried this already but remember...A serial cable (at least thats what ive found with this siemens one) has to be active upon Boot...so as much as this sounds like a messed up solution...Have you tried rebooting with the cable plugged in?

Ha ha... resurrected this thread.

Just a question to you all: I recently got another A56 and its battery meter seems a bit funny (ie. put the battery into another phone at the same charge level and it reads different).

During the A56-C56 conversion process I believe that battery parameters are retained by the .eep file step (ie. writing those 5 blocks from the original A56 EEPROM into the new C56 firmware) so I suppose this will not help me cure the problem. If I loaded the .eep file containing these 5 blocks from another phone, would that work?

Thanks in advance!

You phone will not work with other EEPROM....most certainly you will not turn it on at all,but you can try!!!Just make all backups!

Posted by: mosquito_R

Sting,

Hey... it worked so far! I was expecting some sort of catastrophic failure upon startup but nothing happened! Of course, I got everything else backed up, so I'm not worried. Thanks for the tip though!

!!!!!!!!!!Good, you are lucky I have battery problems with my M55 and nothing helps

Posted by: mosquito_R

Battery problems? Do you mean the battery itself or the battery parameters from the .eep file?

Posted by: hchishtie

Please help me i need this converted by monday.

Have you checked your COM port setting? Sorry if this might be a somewhat insulting question, but I've done that the first time round... my USB port is not COM1!

For reading/writing flash, you need to press the button just long enough until the messages on the screen start scrolling, ie. it doesn't say "waiting to power on the phone". I didn't hold it for longer than 1/4 or 1/2 a second.

After reading the flash, make sure you get the 67,5005,5007,5012,5093 blocks from the A56's EEPROM right away.

Another point: I once wrote the C56 firmware and then proceeded straight to the EEPROM tools to write the .eep from the A56. (ie. skipping Step 7 in the Russian .pdf instructions) I skipped the unlocking step and the phone ended up not working. So, I had to start from Step 5 again.

I've done all my conversions following the .pdf step by step and they were all successful. Could there be something wrong with your computer? That's about all I could think of.

Wish you all the best!

well have tried all 4 ports but with no luck but i am foramting my laptop today and will try to do it again after format. I'll update what happens next.
My plan was also to follow russain PDF but i never went ahead of step 1 .

Posted by: Sting

Guys!!! to find your com port number go to Device Meneger>Ports> - you'll see:<your cabel controller name>(COMx)
Example: Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port(Com4)
In properties of it you can try to change its speed.
Good luck hchishtie

Posted by: firehawk12

Is there another link to that Russian pdf file?

The one on the first and third pages doesn't work.

Posted by: Johnnyt

Can someone host the PDF file somewhere, or give a new link. The original link does not seem to get the PDF file :x

Also, I tried the Siemens EEPROM tool and it says Component 'COMCTL32.OCX' not correctly registered: file missing or invalid.... Anyone else have this?

Hello, im new here and i got 3 questions.

Where can i find the PDF everyone is talking about??

Are the A55 and C55 the same?

Where can i find the data cable so i could build it myself? (not for buying, i live in south america, just for building)

i cant seem to fin that cable anywhere!

Thanks

Posted by: mosquito_R

To Juancaar,

First, welcome to HoFo!
Now, some quick answers:
- A55 and C55 are of course not the same, otherwise why would one want to upgrade? Basically the A55 has less features. Please see for yourself at www.my-siemens.com.

- There has been many threads about the data cable already. Do a search please, and you will probably find more information than you need. If you need to buy one, maybe ebay or the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here would be a good place to look. Also, go to the various sites listed at the Siemens Goodies thread and you will find some information!

- The PDF used to be posted on a website somewhere, but it's no longer around. I have the file and can e-mail it to you if you want to send me a PM with your address. Or, if you want to host the file on a website, that'd be even better! Other people can benefit from it as well.

How did you feed the text into the website?

Posted by: Johnnyt

I just hit "select text" and highlighted the text I wanted to... Maybe cause I have the professional edition of Adobe Acrobat helped with the fact too...

Posted by: firehawk12

Doh.

Do you think you could feed the whole thing through and send it to me?

Posted by: Johnnyt

I was planning on writting up something when I did it myself, but I have yet to acuire a data cable. I can email you the text and you can put it in the translation site. It is quite time consuming as you can only enter 1000 characters at a time :x

I am quite busy at the moment, but send me your email addy and I will send you the copied text.

OK, since alot of people have asked me to send them the russian text so they can input it into the website, I will paste it here for everyone

First off congratulations

I did the following to get software/ringtones/games to and from my A56>C56. I first downloaded the Java enabler for C55 from http://www.siemens-java.com found on the first page or the tools section.

That one did not seem to enable java on my phone since it does not work with a USB data cable... So I got early bird by Skylord version 1.3 from http://digilander.libero.it/m_50/eb...lord_ver1.3.zip and it worked like a charm with my USB data cable.

After that I downloaded Data Exchange from http://www.my-siemens.com/external/...hangesetup1.exe and set that up. Now in my windows explorer I have an icon called Mobile and when my phone is connected I can browse through it like it was a drive. You can drag and drop files there, also take files from the phone.

Another tool I found useful was VisVie which allows you to preview logos and screensavers, but other than that its not too good :x

Hope this helps.

The java enabler doesnt seem to work it just keeps on scanning.

Did you try both of them? The second link is the one that worked for me

What you need to do is turn off the phone, then conect the phone to the cable, pick the right com port, run the enabler, then hit the red end button on your phone lightly (short hit so it dosnt power on, do it a few times if it dosnt work) thats what I did and it worked

I read somewhere that the ideal ports were com1 and com2.... Mine is on com2, try switching the com port in device manager.

LoL, right click My Computer, go to Device Manager, find the Ports (COM & LPT) thing, expand it, find your usb cable (mine is Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge (COM?), right click it go to properties, go to port settings, hit advanced, at the bottom pick COM2 if available, if not available try COM1, if not available, try to find what is using those ports and change it

i have changed my port but now the data software is still saying no phone on that port.

Leave the sim in, and power on the phone like normal, then start up the mobile shortcut, it should take you to the phones folders.

No problemo, I aim to please

Check out http://www.siemens-java.com they have a section for logos and screensavers for C56....

The logo size should be 101x29, while the screensaver size should be 101x46.

Posted by: hchishtie

i am assuming that all the logos and ringtone for c55 is the same as of C56. What is if i downlaod somethign of SL 55

Yes, the C55 and C56 are the same, just like the A55 and A56

Ummm, you can download any polymorphic ringtones since the conversion enabled that. As far as using different logos and screensavers, I am not sure... Try it out, no harm should come from it, just a really wierd looking pic if the size is wrong, infact I am gonna try some colour logos now

Just erase the switchon.bin within the operator animation folder, it gives a siemens default startup after. Also erase the switchoff.bin to erase the rogers.com spam on switchoff

You might want to save the ringtones in the folder that is called 'Ringing tone'... just a thought

So far I havnt needed to erase anything to fit some ringtones, so just try it out, and if you need to erase stuff, erase the crappy tones provided already :P

Is there any way i can update the languages options in this C56(conveted) i tired updated through a file i got from siemens website for C55 it had options of extra languages( other than spanish) but when i installed the software andtried updating it , i got the errror worng firmware. what does that mean.

The crappy tones (ie. ones not labelled with .si3 or .mid) can't be erased. If you browse your phone via your computer, you won't see these factory tones in the Ringing Tone directory. Too bad... because some of them are just plain stupid, like the dophin and the horse.

Can't send attachments via PM, can we?
If you're interested, please PM your e-mail address to me. The files are 4kb each, so don't worry about the lack of space.

Please read earlier posts in this very thread about how C56 can't be converted to C55 and vice versa! I just hope you didn't fry your phone.

(Didn't mean to embarrass you or make you feel bad!) Anyway, C55 is the 900MHz/1800MHz version of the C56, and even though only the frequencies are different, I'm afraid their firmwares are not interchangable because there are hardware differences. Yes, it kinda sucks that the non 850/1900 phones have more firmware choices, but that's life. As mentioned in some other recent posts, I don't think there are firmwares readily available for the x56 phones... unlike the x55's.

Hope I have helped!

No hardfeelings at all.
the phone is not toasted. It is working perfectly. The only thing i hvae noticed and cant seem to figure out is that when i was finished with the upgrade i had GPRS symbol on my set. It was there for good 6 7 hours but now it is gone. Is this something provider related. To be clear to everyone, i am in a Gait market of Cingular not GSM so i am using some other companies GSM signals.
Is this what is causing not getting GPRS. I think i am using ATTWS signals and they offer full GPRS service in my locality. If this is the case why i am not getting it.
any ideas or suggestion ?????

I am not even sure what i have done. I just followed the russain PDF you provided and followed it.
I think the whole point of doing this was to firmware upgrade adn i thought everyone else was doing this.
please tell me what special i have done. I though i was the moron who was always askingstupid question again and again ( all the questions where answered on page 2 0r 3 of this thread but i never bothered to read all of them )

I think the "revolution" Sting was talking about was that you put C55 firmware on a C56... but obviously you had the wrong firmware error.

You then probably reloaded it with C56 firmware and it's humming along, thus your phone's not toasted!

With so many replies to this thread, one really doesn't have much time to sift through it all... so, no hard feelings indeed!

As for your GPRS query, the indicator means that your phone is GPRS enabled, and it doesn't necessarily mean it's connected via GPRS at that moment. Depending on the provider (SIM card) you can turn GPRS on/off, or maybe they make that choice for you. Check in your options to see if you can turn GPRS on or off. See somewhere in Setup>Connectivity.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your phone!

I dont have the GPRS option. Porb. with the GAIT service GPRS is not an option. I am just getting its signals but not using it. I believe if i put in ATTWS sim it might actaully use GPRS and will be able tosee the option as well.

Anyways it was fun upgrading the phone. I wish i had more phone at my dispoal so i can change them as well.

for the pople who still wants to convert the A56 to C56 i found th following link. It is not the procedure we (anyone using the instructions in this thread) have used . But it is in plain english and looks pretty simple.
A55 to C55

Also i found the link with a C56 firmware. Any PRO here can you tell if this is the new firmware or the one we have already used earlier.

C56 firmware
when asked for user id and pswd
id=mobile
pswd=elibom

Posted by: RHHS

I'd love to convert my A56 to C55/56 but I wouldn't know how to begin (especially since I've had a bad experience with a non-working aftermarket data cable for an old Nokia 5190).

Rather than revert to eBay, does anyone in the Richmond Hill/Markham area who has successfully converted their phone want to convert my phone for $10 or 15? If my phone fries I won't be upset with you...please e-mail me if this is possible.

Question: Will converting the phone change the network frequencies from 850/1900 to something else?

Thanks for reading...

Hey, I am using Data Exchange from here http://www.my-siemens.com/external/...hangesetup1.exe

After that just erase the switchon.bin and switchoff.bin located in one of the folders (I think operator folder)

I had that same problem. VisSie worked, but nothing else did. Try this link http://www.siemens-mobile.com/repos...tup1.0.0.76.zip

nope
i have a L, R switch.. doesn't seem to be working either way..

do i need an active sim in it? i have a dead sim right now in it

Posted by: Johnnyt

As far as I know, yes. The fun needs to be fully on while using the tool. Gimme a min, lemme try with no sim.

Posted by: alpha tag

ok now vissie can't read it.. weird weird weird

edit: woops, the com setting in vissie reset on it's own

Posted by: Johnnyt

Hmmm, nope. It works without a sim

My switch is set to R.

Dunno what the problem is

Can you right click on the 'Mobile' icon, go to properties, go to connection and find the com settings there?

vissie reads it

but i only see the following

- adjustments
- telephone books
- logos
- ringtones
- ringtone editor
- appointments
- addressbook
- messages

i can modify the com settings in the device manager folder... i set that to 115.2k

I doubt your phone is fried.

If you read the proper instructions and followed who had success with which instructions, you would know how to do it properly

i need change the imei to a Siemens A56@C56 please help me

Posted by: mosquito_R

Do you know what you are talking about?!
IMEI is the phone's serial number; changing it is highly ILLEGAL.
Thus, I don't think anyone on here will want to help you with this... (I hope).

Posted by: lega

Look, unlocking is illegal, disabling aero check is illegal, a56 to c56 converting is illegal... Everything is illegal!

Posted by: hchishtie

what is aero check anyways? i am still confused about this aero check. Does this have to do something with airplane

Posted by: lega

When you turn your phone on you get message like "Do you want to turn your phone ON" or similar.

Posted by: hchishtie

oh that lousy message. Does it worth to get the message deleted from phone or just press a single button whenever you turn on the phone.

Posted by: lega

But AERO CHECK is stupid thing

For exapmle: You turn your phone on but you forgot to press ok on aero check and phone is not on for hours and you dont know.

i've raised a possible bug in another thread regarding this conversion

when it is converted to a C56, when u try to create hotkey positions, are u guys able to alter them the normal way? i can't seem to for 2 conversions i've done...

ie: i create a hotkey for say position 3, i press 3 once and the right softkey should say whatever the hotkey has been programmed to.. now from what i've been told, if u press the right softkey, it should all you to change it, but when i do, it activates whatever has been programmed in the hotkey... i can't change it anyone else experiencing this? i'm wondering if it's due to the flash files or if i flashed it improperly, or something w/ the eeprom modding?

Why??????? Do u think conversion is legal???

Posted by: mosquito_R

Well... whether or not the conversion is legal depends on how you define the word... my problem with changing IMEI is that the phone's identity is changed completely... I presume that you can change the phone's IMEI to whatever you want it to be, thus it could possibly be a clone of somebody else's phone... and there lies the problem. It's kinda like someone making a fake license plate for their car with the same registration number as your car. You wouldn't feel too happy or secure if your car got cloned, would you?

On the other hand, the conversion is a software change only; the IMEI of the phone is left untouched... thus, the phone is still unique.

I'm sorry if I've offended any one of you here... I think I'm just quite paranoid about possible identity thefts.

I have patches for the C55 how i can apply this the C56. Any can help me

Posted by: mosquito_R

C55 patches don't work for the C56. Please read earlier posts in this very long thread. On around page 5 of this thread, ProzacBob said:

Quote:

Hope that helps.

Dunno if this has been answered... but I experienced the exact same problems. However, there's a half-solution around it:

THis works for phone numbers only. Say if my key 3 is programmed for "Bob", the phone will actually look for a "Bob" in the SIM card phonebook. If I renamed "Bob" to "Bobby", the phone would not find it and thus your key 3 is free (ie. displays "Set" on the right) again. Keys programmed with a function (e.g. Hide ID) cannot be reprogrammed like so... perhaps only a flash could take care of that.

well, i did a reflash and didn't apply any eeprom feature hacking.. it was working like it should..

so then i tried some eeprom hacking and found out the reason why that "bug" occurs is because when u use that program to enable DES, it'll cause areocheck and disable the ability to change quick keys so definitely nothing wrong w/ the flash files.. just when u apply the DES patch

Oh really?!?! COOL! So, have you tried using the Siemens phone browser on your phone w/o the EEPROM hacking? Did it work? Of course, the main interest is that I wanna change wallpapers, ringtones and such with a data cable...

And I suppose a reflash with the original C56 fw should get rid of the EEPROM hacking, right?!

cheers,

Posted by: alpha tag

yea i was able to browse using A56 firmware and no eeprom hacking

i 'think' just replacing the eeprom file might do it... with the newest version of quick eeprom features, it'll save a copy of the previous eeprom by default... so use eeprom tools and return it back to the pre-hack eeprom way with that backup file.. although i haven't tried that yet and i am just assuming here

As per the conversion instructions, I've only saved my .eep files with the 5 blocks of EEPROM required for the conversion. So, I think I'll need to do a full reflash, then modify with my original 5 blocks.

(running very low on caffeine, so I might not make sense here...)

ok did another flash and i've found the reason again why the shortcut key 'bug' is created.. it's NOT just DES enabling, but the simple ACT of eeprom hacking with quick features... i tried just enabling dual-band selection and the 'bug' was created... the aerocheck becomes active whenever u hack it the first time...

So, with the dual-band selection, does it actually show up in a menu? I've never seen it on my phone!

As for the aerocheck, how does it show up on the phone?

Sorry, I suppose these are newbie-ish questions.

Mosquito_R

Posted by: alpha tag

dualband selection i'm not sure if that is an actual option, but it doesn't show up in the menus

aerocheck is that confirmation thingy at the beginning regardless of profile.. although the C56 by default has an aerocheck profile

Posted by: h0merclies

I tried the A56>C56 conversion.

I think I screwed up something and I don't know what. The boots up but it is EXTREMELY slow. The graphics render very slowly and the menus move in the same way. I've been through the forum posts and haven't seen anyone mention this kind of problem.

It reads my phone book and it seems like the C56 firmware worked. However, I can not connect to any phone network. The phone seaches for a network but it doesnt find anything.

I -because i'm stupid- didn't make a backup of the A56 before I started.

Can anyone provide the original firmware/eeprom/etc of the A56 so I can revert the phone back to a A56?

Thanks a lot.

Posted by: Rebel_lord

Arrggg ... utter noob here. I think I have the same problem as the person above. I could use some help. My phone won't boot now. The lights just turn on but don't do jack. . Like you hear a low dull tone and the lights come on but then it doesn't respond and goes off. Any ideas. I think it's because I didn't save the 5 or so eeprom blocks? *shrug* I honestly barely know wat I'm talkin about. Oh yea plus I don't think it even goes into service mode anymore ... is dat a bad thing (please let it not be !!!!).

Posted by: Rebel_lord

umm nvm if I use Siemens EEPROM tool 2.21, it goes into service mode ... so I guess I just need the siemens firmware

note: The Firmware for an A56 ... pm me if anything

Posted by: h0merclies

I had the same problem when I f'd up the first time. It would light up and make a low buzzing tone and then turn off.

After searching through a bunch of Russain and Spanish (thank God for babblefish) I've figured out what I did wrong. However, I still have no way of fixing it.

What needed to happen was:
EEPROM - Save A56 EEPROM
Feria - Save A56 Battery State
Feria - Flash C56 Firmware
EEPROM - Apply A56 saved firmware
Feria - Appy Saved A56 Battery state
JavaEnabler - Apply to "new" phone.

I missed the first step. Didn't backup sh*t.

I fixed the low buzzing noise by applying the C56 firmware AND the C56 EEPROM that came in the A56>C56 file I downloaded.

Although that got the phone to bootup, it has the problem I discribed above: Very slow menus and animations and refusal to connect to any network.

So, agian, if anyone can hook up the EEPROM for the A56 I could go about fixing my phone. My only other option is to find another A56 and make copies of the EEPROM and stuff. I'm working on it, so if it works out, i'll share my saved files. I'll post if I find an A56.

Posted by: Rebel_lord

ok ... Does anyone understand Siemens EEPROM tool 2.21?

I opened it ... connected it to my cuzin's A56 and then pressed Load All. I assume that it looks at all the epprom blocks and prints it out as a list. then I move the list over to the left side.

Afterwards I plugged in the defunctional A56 of mine into service mode. Deleted all the eeprom on my phone, after pressing Load All, by clicking Select All and Delete Directly.

Then I went to teh left side of the list and selected teh following blocks and moved it over to the right, 67, 5005, 5007, 5012, 5093.
Then I loaded the epprom list on the right with the Load button. Afterwards, I selected all of the blocks minus the ones I listed above and transfered them over to the right and then I pressed Save All.

Exited Service mode ... tried turning it on ... lo and behold the split second turning on of the lights and a slight buzzing noise ... WTF ....

NOOOOO

I've also tried to loaded all the A56 epprom blocks from my cuzin's phone on to my phone but there was no change ...

Any ideas? .... I'm begining to miss my A56 now (gawd and I used to think it was kinda crappy cuz of Stack Attack and Balloon shooter).

oh yea ... I've tried Freia 10 ...

when I try to write the flash of the C56 with it, I get this.

COMM_LoadBoots : selected phone family is 8
TTY_OpenCOMPort : opening COM3
COMM_IsBootRunning : bootcode does not seem to be running
COMM_LoadBoots : Waiting to power on the phone ...
COMM_LoadBoots : phone is powered on
COMM_SendBoot : boot file is not accepted

ok time for me to step in

first of all, don't worry.. i've flashed my dad's A56/C56 many many times (errors, buzz and all) and it hasn't died but always make sure teh battery is full when flashing or anything above 50% capacity... full is the best of course

ok so u can still try to turn it into an C56

1. load your brother's A56 eeprom and grab the blocks that that file says to grab, save them, exit program

2. flash your own A56 to a C56 using the C56 flash file

3. unlock it, following those instructions

4. load up siemens eeprom tools again with your own phone plugged in... load that file that has the eeprom blocks saved, select all, transfer it over, now press save selected NOT save all. exit

5. turn it on
