For those that have a Sony Z600

First off, I would like to say what a great forum you all have here. Very cool. I stumbled onto this from another forum (car related) that I subscribe to.

Anyway, I looked in the review section but no one has written a review on the Sony Z600 (or I could not find it). I have not had the opportunity to actually touch this phone and test it out. But, from what I have read it seems like it is perfect for what I am looking for.

I would like to hear opinions from people who are actually using this phone. Specifically on ease of use, ergonimics, quality of the display, bluetooth capability, ringtones, camera, etc.

Also, does this phone have a speakerphone function?

Thanks in advance.

I've had nothing but trouble with my z600 so far -Starting with problems trying to buy one. After trying several companies I finally got a phone. It was unlocked, as promised, but it was branded by Vodaphone -which has caused no end of headaches. The system has been altered so that what I see onscreen doesn't always match what I see in the SE manual (which I had to download, as the printed copy I received with the phone was in German). I have not been able to set up text messaging or any internet services, WAP browsing, etc. My provider, T-Mobile, doesn't support this phone and has been friendly, but not very helpful. I have not been able to access/download any ringtones or wallpapers.

On top of all of the above, I keep losing the signal...

If I had it to do over again I think I would have bought a different model. As it is, I am hoping that a flash reset will get rid of all the Vodaphone crap and at least restore the phone to what the manual says it should be.

Help?

finniii, I'm sorry to hear about all of the trouble. I can only imagine what your frustration level must be right now. I know I would be furious. Good luck with the phone. Where/who is going to reflash the phone for you?

I had similar dealings with my (unbranded) Z600. I do have the WAP/MMS working, though when I go to the T-zones page I get a blank screen. As for the phone, T-mobile was fairly helpful, but SE decided that, since the phone had not been released in the US yet, they were not going to help.

I also have a phone from vodafone. A company called global mobility said that they can get all the vodafone junk off the phone, restore it back to sony ericsson defaults and install the lastest firmware. 330Cane How did you manage to get your phone internet working? what setting did you use if you dont mind telling?

thanks

After trying two or three times with T-mobile on the phone, I got frustrated and hung up with them. I tried it on my own a few moments later and found it was working. I do not have access to the T-zones homepage, I have to put in whatever wap.address I want manually, but at least I have access. I have been using:
wap.yahoo.com
wap.espn.com
wap.hollywood.com
wap.cnet.com

Sorry to hear some have had problems with their Z600's. My experience with the phone has been fantastic.

I bought my Z600 from gsmphonesource.com; it came quickly, unbranded and unlocked. No phone provider logo or anything. The box is just a Sony Ericsson box, nothing else. It wasn't for the US though, for Germany, I think. Therefore the wall charger was for Europe with an included adapter. However, it didn't matter because I have owned two prior SE phones and can use those adapters etc.

Like others have reported, T-Mobile T-zones wap page does not work. However, other wap pages do. I called T-mobile and had them sms the wap settings to my phone. Worked like a charm the first time.

In fact, I took my Z600 with me to Rome, Italy for the holidays. Had T-mobile activate worldwide service before I left. Not one hiccup or glitch. The phone found service perfectly.

So, to offer another opinion, I am extremely happy with my Z600. I wish I had bought it sooner!

i bought the T630 from CSL from hongkong, and i really like it alot. but the problem is that i couldnt get onto the tzone page and the mobile.msn.com page. all the other sites i could get on no problem. i called t mobile so many times i talk to them more than my mom! they are really helpful trying to get my phone working..., but they have no idea how t o config it! then one time a second level web guy thing whatever hes called told me that my phone is not fully unlocked..the " data" proportion of the phone is still locked. i need to take it back to the carrier to have them locked. but i cant send my phone all the way back to hk, and not knowing if they would unlock it for me. shipping charges will be mad expensive, not sure what they will charge me for unlocking the phone, and if it doesnt work then i just wasted a crap load of money...

i checked my phone, the service part of the phone..and see that everything they had on there is unlocked (the lock symbol isnt locked) but im not sure if its fully unlocked or theres some hidden part of the phone is stilll locked. i noticed you guys saying something having the phone reflashed...or something, just wondering how that works and wheer could i get it done...

thanks

I just bought mine from India with my visit there 1 week ago. Its a nice phone, but noone supports it here as in tmobile or att or cingular. I sell att and tmobile so it will work, for the most part its just a t610 but in a flip format but different. I just got back yesterday so i have not had a chance to activate it with tmobile. I am currently using nextel (motorola i95). I knew buying a phone off the net which claimes to be unlocked and stuff will be crap. I got mine from the SE dealership distributors there so i knew it wasnt a knock off from anything else or had been touched. Its brand new and i got it for around $350.00 usd. What did you pay?

how to know is the function is unlock or not?
Can anyone show the pic of it?

finniii..... when you bought the phone did they tell you it was unlocked and unbranded? If so I would go after they to replace it and also publish their name so someone else does not buy from them. If not then the only way to go is to re-flash it.. The z-600 is a good phone and I have used it across the states from CA to TX on t-mo. The only thing is t-zone and some wap sites in the US are not available yet.

For a detailed review, go to http://www.mobileburn.com and do a search for the z600. I think the link is on this thread actually...

I have had it only a week but to sum it up its a sweet phone! The display is much better than my t616 and guess what? I can see it outside in the sun! hehe... Ringtones are nice and loud, bluetooth hooks up without a hitch and the camera is...a camera on a phone, nothing great, but not real bad either! As for the speakerphone, no unfortunately not. It does however have a speaker grill unlike the t616 where you can hear your loud I mean loud ringtones. An added bonus is when you turn on the voice control feature where you can use voice dialing, and have voice 'tags' to your contacts, you will actually hear your voice announcing the call if the number is in your contact list! (kinda freaked me out the first time I heard it)

Good luck!

I use Tmo and have no problems in reception. It's unbranded and fully unlocked with the firmware upgraded. For the person who is having a difficult time with their Z600, I suggest you pay someone to flash your phone to uncustomize your phone and upgrade the firmware while they are at it. Well good luck!

Posted by: Dreamavenger

What is firmware and how/where do you upgrade it?

I ordered one yesterday and they told me it is unlocked and unbranded. Do I still need to upgrade my firmware?

Hey all,

I got myself a z600 back in December 2003 and i have had no problems with it at all. The phone is great good photo quality, bluetooth, themes, good ringtone quality, infrared, java etc... The only thing its really missing is mp3

Posted by: aciras

Ya I agree the Z600 is a very good phone. It might not be the best phone for you though because it really all depends on what you want to use it for.

PICTURES:
If you intend to use it for a lot of pictures, then I would not recommend it. The camera does not take the best quality pictures. It does need a lot of light in order for the pictures to come out clearly. Despite all that it is probably an average camera phone in terms of quality.

MEMORY:
One thing that really bothers me is the 2mb of memory. WHY? WHY couldn't they have put removable memory or at least more built in memory. 2mb seems like enough for pics and ringtones, but with screensaves/games/themes/mms messages the 2mb really gets used up quickly.

Besides those 2 points the phone is an excellent choice for all other wireless activites. Reception is excellent (i'm with FIDO in canada), nice display on the outside, very sturdy and stable feel to the phone.

I do feel sorry for all those people having problems with branded phones. Mine is unlocked/unbranded/unmarked so all I can suggest is to get one similar to avoid any headaches. I have had branded phones and it's just too much work to clear it without paying money. Ebay is a good place just make sure you are buying from trusted sellers (check their rating) and try to buy from regular cell phone sellers (see their other items for sale). Usually the regular cell phone sellers will have better experience and can answer your questions honestly in regards to locked/branded issues.

Hope that helps people looking to buy the z600.

I love my Z600! Mine came unlocked unbranded and it works great! I got all the wap settings from Sonyericsson.com
The only thing that sucks is that SE z600 doesn't work well with java games. The game Erix (which comes standard on the phone) is a java based games and error's at level 9!
I had send the phone back to the retailer and they send me another one. Come to find out it had the same problem. I wonder what SE is going to do about this since java games seem to be running the industry at the moment?!

Does anybody know if splinter cell is a java based game and or works on the Z600?

i have got t610 t630 z200 and z600
But among them z600 is the best so far with the fastest processosr and NICE big screen.

If u are not waiting for k700 or z1010, Z600 is the right choice alreadi

PS: i just did a wapsite for SE phones with some wallpapers, themes, ringtones and games.
www.tagtag.com/sgsonyericsson (just save this as bookmark in your phone to view)
i am new to this so please give comments too thanks

Just got the Z600 from Global Mobility. The phone came with firmware R5 and overall Im happy with it.

The only complain that i have is that the screen still cannot be seen well in the sun, at least compared to the MPx200 i just sold.

I dont know if the sun just hits us harder here in SoCal, but I still have a hard time with the screen.

Other than that... nice phone.
