New keypad color

I've experimented on my T616, and came up with a cheap and easy mod to do. After having it done for a little over a month now, I'm pleased with it, and decided I would share how to do it.

This cheap and easy mod will give you different keypad colors, rather then just the blue.

Supplies needed:

T8 Torx
Dry Erase marker

What to do:

First, take your phone apart (there's a nice walkthrough within the boards, do a search to find it.).

Take out your keypad

Carefully remove the numbers off the rubber backing

The keys themselves have a blue filter within them that can not be removed.

Now take your dry erase marker, color of your choice, I used red.

Color the rubber piece where the key once sat, not just the little nob, but the whole rubber piece under the key.

Put the key back on the rubber pad

Reassemble your phone

Turn your phone on and check out the new coloring.

I used red as red + blue = purple

Experiment with different colors, just remember they key's themselves have a blue filter that can't be removed, so any color that you color the rubber piece will be a second filter. Use ONLY dry erase markers as they are transparent.

Any questions feel free to post here and I'll help out the best I can.

Enjoy!

how did you do it without ripping the silicone? i can get the keys off, but i'm also getting a lot of "rippage" of the rubber that it's mounted on.

PLEASE HELP!?!?!?!

Thanks,
Grace

Because I am using the black laser keypad; I only needed to paint over the back of the keypad itself. The laser keys do not have a color placed inside of the pad, so nothing neded to be seperated.

I'll try to get a pick tonight.

I like that black laser keypad - where did you get it BTW? Is it physically as hard as the OEM one that comes with the phone?

When I had the Nokia 7210, there were a lot of cool laser replacement keypads but they were poor quality, not same as the OEM ones. It was like typing on mush. SO just wondering about this one...

looks good, going to try the same with a white keypad.

I recently received a white laser keypad and it is just as hard as the oem, if not harder. The clicks are a little louder, but its a good keypad..

(Got mine from daydeal on ebay)
