like the title says and why? (sorry for the noobie question...)
how does the 256 mb sandisk one rank? thanks!
btw for those who are interested in how CF ranks, check out a great article (albeit quite old) on www.dpreview.com

Sandisk is not a very good brand for SD cards. They are very slow compared to others and they have incompatibility problems with certain devices.
IMO, the best SD brand would be Panasonic. Who else other than the SD inventors themselves..

I had problems with my SanDisk 256mb SD card initially, but I formatted it and it's been working fine ever since. I sold it to a friend for fifty bucks and it's working on her camera just fine too.

I remember reading somewhere on the Palm boards that there is really only two core SD cards . SanDisk and Panasonic, any other brand is just on of these two cores with a different wrapping. I checked my lexmar card info and it says panasonic.
Dunno if this helps

Panasonic, followed by Lexar ( it's 80% Panasonic underneath ), then Toshiba.
SanDisk is all around so-so card maker... it's relatively slow but usually stable with the least amount of problem and compatibility issues.
I have a SanDisk 128 CF card for my Canon A70

Since you guys are talking about memories, how about the CF one? Which is the best brand?

SanDisk is excellent for CF as well.
Transcend has realy fast cards, now rated @ 48X.

Whos the "maker" of CF? And where do you see the speed? Can't seem to find it online.

CF is just a miniturized version of what has been available through PCMCIA/PC Card on laptops. I don't know who exactly was first, but the interface is the same.
As for speed ratings of CF, all you need to know is CF 1x speed = 150kbps. Find the sequential transfer writing speed and then you can figure out the speed rating of it.

go with whatever is cheaper for day to day stuff...if you need for more "pro" stuff... just move up to a "faster" card.

The old school SmartMedia is a lot faster!!

I've had 2 Sandisk CF cards (one normal 64 and one ultra 128) and I can tell you they are super slow both writing and reading, and not that reliable as they would corrupt like once every 3 to 4 months... I would suggest Lexar as they are blazingly fast!
Currently using a Lexar / (rebranded Panasonic) 128 SD card, very very fast and reliable (so far) stuff!!!

screw SD cards and use Memory Sticks...my 256mb MS Pro is a lot faster than any SD ard I've used
