what are the odds of finding out that my slider and lg vx6000 data cables are the same. I got the idea at work when the cables for the phone transfer machine were the same for the slider and the lg 6000. So i went home to switch them around low and behold i was using the slider data cable the whole time on my lg and didnt even know it. With the kyocera cable i could open bitpim and plug either one in and you can read the filesystem. With the lg cable i think you have to switch the ports around i didnt feel like doing this. tonight.
1 it was cool to figure this out
2 it kind of sucks that i could have saved 40 dollars if someone else would have figured this out.
PS i used bitpim the modified version on both i can and did add ringtones the normal way with the lg. And through the filesystem with the slider.... PS2 it is way cool that mp3 can be tones on the lg.
Add me to the faq and make my day.

version .62 of bitpim. You can wait for ver 7 from the creator of bitpim too. I got v62 off this forum.
FOr the slider you only can change stuff in the filesystem menu. I added ringtones that way. Havent tried wallpaper yet.

I got the serial data cable today, and it seems Bitpim will not work with this cable. I need to use the USB version in order for it to work properly.

The kyocera cable worked with both phones. I tried my slider and the lg cable USB and nothing. I wonder why one way but not the other. The slider cable is a usb too. Both OEM.

I don't think bitpim has very good phone support. Really, it shouldn't matter if the cable is the USB or the serial version, or whom manufactures it. The cable manufactures have specifiactions to follow.

Bitpim should synch up to any serial port, that has a phone connected directly to it, provided it's one of the phones the code was written for. (Or al least, one would wish.) From what I can see, that was the idea in the first place. Hence, the idea of auto detect feature.

Anyways, I hope the next version of Bitpim will have better phone support. Including the slider. Since there is really one or two individuals working on coding the software, I'm not going to badger them to add that support. I'm happy that someone decided to start a project like this in the first place. If it works out good for us Slider users, then thats cool. If not, then I haven't really lost anything.

One thing is for sure, if I could get stable working sofware, to change mostly anything I wanted on my Slider, I would gladly lay down some bucks for it. It's one thing for VM to have high call rates per minute, but at the same time, they have the phone locked down, and they are forcing us to use their software, webpages and everything else, AND charges us for that service! I wouldn't care so much that I have to use their webpages, but not allowing us to add things (without cost) to personalize our phones is just insane.. way to go Big Brother.

Cheers.

My Configuration:
Kyocera 3225
Serial to USB Cable (OEM Kyocera TXDTA10032
Bitpim software

I can get the software to "see" the phone but the software thinks it is looking for an LG 4400 and will not allow me to sync, change or alter the files in the phone.

Is there software that will work with the Kyocera 3225? Can I change some settings in Bitpim to work with the Kyocera?

Thanks.

I'm confused. Are you saying that the LG cable will not work with the Kyocera slider?

Do you have a Slider from Virgin Mobile, or does anyone know if BitPim can communicate with the VM Sliders?

Anyone have a good place to buy the Kyocera cable from? I found it for $44 with shipping at http://store.kyocera-wireless.com and http://www.yourwirelesssource.com/P...=KYOCERA+SLIDER

........................

Also I dunno if this will work for making mp3 ringers on the slider but at:

http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/downloads/downloads.htm

there is a program called "MP3 Ringer Maker software - For Windows"

Vice Versa. The Kyocera cable does not work with the LG 4400.

Posted by: cellman2424

The 4400 wasnt even talked about it has a different sized hole.
Someone let me know if they get the lg cable to work with the slider. I dont really want to mess with my setting . It always seems to take way to long to get cables up and running. Drivers com ports ect. P>S> My slider is a US cellular one.
SOmeone let me know the return policy on a VM one and i might go get one to play with then take it back.
