BMP pics always white?! Help! :/

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello,

I've been trying to send a custom wallpaper to my VX6000 (s/w ver. 6) all day now. No matter what I do, the pic's show up as all white when I try to view them.

Here's what I did:
1) cleared all the default pics from my gallery.
2) created a 120x131 bmp in photoshop (also tried some bmps posted on the forum)
3) sent the bmp to my phone using vzwpix.com, included subject and message
4) received the MMS message on my phone, pics looked fine
5) opened them in the gallery, they won't show up (they're all white)
6) Turned off and turned on my phone, renamed the pics, still won't show up.

I also noticed that when I turned my phone on and off, the old default pics didn't show up again. Other posts I've read said this should happen.

Anyone have any ideas??

Save them as .jpg's instead of .bmp's. I never use BMP's, much larger than the same pic as a .jpg.

I had that problem and I found out that all the letters have to be lowercase.

Did not know that they have to be in lower case, thanks for the tip. Question. How do you guys/gals delete the originall pictures and any other uploaded ot the phone?

I tried using lowercase letters, unfortunately that didn't help for me.

As for .jpg's, I would use them, but I'm hoping to get a wallpaper that doesn't have the white bars along the top and bottom.

Heh, is there a solution yet? I've been trying for a few hours, and I can't get it to work either.

Dude the picture being a .bmp or a .jpg has nothing to do with the white lines, only quality.

The solution to the white lines is the size.

the image is 120 x 160 but the part labled "not visible" does not show up. the picture of heidi is 120 x 131 and looks great on my phone.

I've tried sending pix to my phone in 3 formats: .bmp, .jpg, and .png. Only .jpg shows up on my phone, and even at 120x131, it still has the white lines at the bottom and top. When I try sending .bmp or .png, they both end up being blank once they're saved to my graphics folder.

I'm not having much luck with this either. Jpegs work, but with white lines. No bmp or png files show up (I'm using Photoshop 6). I've even downloaded some wallpapers "that will fit your VX6000 screen perfectly" but I get white lines with those too. Seems like it'd be so simple...wonder why it isn't?

Try this. .

When you get the pic save it but don't name it(it will be untitled#)
Then go to my media and see if its there. You can rename it after.

BTW use .bmp or .png Only these 2 formats are capable of no white bar wallpapers(pretty sure)

Let me know how it goes

I can't not give it a name. I always get an error when I try that.

Sigh...

Save the bmp file with 24 bit quality and 120x131. Keep all the letters lowercased.

God, it seems so simple. Yet none of these solutions are working for me.

First off, delete every pic in ur phone and through bitpim.

Onces finished go to download/dloadindex in bitpim and there should be 6 files.

one by one delete 3 files
Delete this file, "brewimageindex.map," and restart the phone. The phone will reconstruct the file for u.

Delete mmrdrmimageindex.map and restart the phone and etc.

Same with mmsimageindex.map

done? okay now take ur image, be sure its bmp, and in 24bit color. 120x131

Go to bitpim and go to the wallpaper tab. Add in ur wallpaper and send it to your phone. PRESTO.

I deserve a cookie. I know by personal experience this SHould work.

Oh god, are you telling me the white wallpapers will only go away if you use BitPim? I've been trying to figure it out through using the vzwpix service.

Posted by: MikeBuzzsaw

Yea... im not sure if there is another way.

If you keep on doing it, i think it will work (The numbers will go up)

BTW I have about 20 wallpapers on my phone with no white bars and all sent through yahoo.

This image worked perfect for me, no white bars or anything. I sent it to myphonenumber@vzwpix.com. I sent it through microsoft outlook from my email address. I then saved the image into my media (as a image) and then went to my media, found it, opened it, and set it as my wallpaper.

Do it with that image, the exact way I described it and tell me if it works!

I ran into similar problem and finally got the file on using BitPim. I believe this thing with the BMP files is a problem with Version 06 of the LG 6000 software. There is also a problem deleting the files (file name remains but screen is blank). I think that Mike is correct and BitPim is the most reliable way to add BMP files.

So I should send the pictures to my Inbox from VZW, save it, then delete the name so that it is blank? And try it many times before it stops giving an error?

Okay. You sent an e-mail from outlook to yournumber@vzwpix.com, then to your phone?

Posted by: flexia

You can send a picture to your phone from any email address. Just send it to yourphone@vzwpix.com. and the pictures have to be named in lowercase letters and it wouldn't hurt to put a subject in.

If you send it to yourmobile#@vzwpix.com it sends the message as a pix message to your telephone on its own. That's how it's done!

Posted by: Hoonyo

Yeah! Thanks a lot you guys.

No problem!

As far as deleting pictures from your phone and you are still getting a white screen do not delete the picture through bitpm manually delete it form your phone if that do not work then let me know I have another solution for you.

Another solution for getting pictures on your phone is to make the image a png file. I have also notice that if the file is over 30kb it will not show up on your phone through bitpm and as far as picture messaging 30kb is the absolute maximum for sending files through your phones email address. So if none of these were your problems let me know but this might solve alot of your problems.

I tried sending a .bmp of a 120X160 wallpaper to my phone through vzwpix.com. I received the picture fine and saw it, but after saving it it was a blank white image. Renamed it, etc. STILL blank. Haven't deleted all of my other wallpaper and don't have a data cable yet. Was wondering if anyone who had this problem and now has success if they can explain what they did, and how to do it WITHOUT the white borders! Thanks!

Everything you need to know is in this thread, but I'll tell you how I do it.

I use Photoshop 7 and create a 120x131 image. After I've applied what I want to it, I save it as a 24-bit .bmp file and give it a random name (make sure no letters are capitalized).

I go to my Hotmail account, upload the file, and send it myphone#@vzwpix.com

I get a pix msg on my phone, view it, then save the file.

does the image have to be indexed color or can it be RGB? Regular RGB seems to make the file size too large when saved as a BMP(47K).

RGB. 47k is fine. That's the size of my BMP files.

Posted by: et phone home

Hoonyo I thought the files had to be under 30K if sent by email, no? Does this mean I can send midi files that are also over 30K?
Is there anything I can do about the .bmp that I sent earlier that shows up FINE in the preview, but doesn't show up at all as wallpaper, or should I just delete it?
Well I tried it as a .png and it shows up fine without the white borders.

Thanks for all the help!
