MODTONES encryption

well modtones has some kinda gay encryption on it. i used my friends 720 to get some tones off modtones and when i put em on my comp, they wont play... and they wont play on my 6k either... anybody heard of this/know how to fix it?

Encryption? Nah, I don't think so. Almost all of the standard tones should be regular MIDI's. I'm not positive when it comes to the dead ringers. If I had to guess, I would say those are MMF's (which can be played back on PSM Player). Perhaps in the transfer of the files, they somehow became corrupted? That's my best bet.

Most likely he is not editing the map file or he is not using bitpim.

i know it has some kind of encryptions because the old ones work... but the newer ones always do the same thing. so they must have recently done it.

i couldnt have no editing your lil map file thing, b/c im using MMS. e-mailing the tones.... im going to attach one of the tones that dont work to this, you guys try em... maybe its just me. thanks again.

I changed the extension to .mmf, opened it in PSMPlay v5.0, saved it as a MIDI ringtone file, and attached is the result . . . (i.e., no encryption) . . .

You're having trouble becuase MIDI's can only support instrument track instructions, not embedded audio. I believe that's why MMF's were developed--the ability to combine both. The format is primarily used by Samsung phones, but others (such as the T720) do support it. Anyway, the VX6000 does not support MMF's--but it does support MP3's! Which is far broader than the MMF format. I've attached the "Booty Call" ringer, reencoded in MP3 format. Right now it's just over 100kb. So you can either use BitPim to send it, or fool around with the compression to get it under 30kb to send via email. Just remember to rename the extension to .MID before sending. Good luck!

I confirmed that there does, indeed, appear to be some sort of licensing lockout on the beyatch... MMF file (I used more than one program to check on this), though it only affects exporting the MIDI - I was able to export the WAV portion with PSMPlay.

On the other MMF file, I found that both the WAV and MIDI portions could be separately exported, so they could probably be combined into a single song via a program like Sonar, mixed down to a single WAV file, then converted to QCP . . .

Ok, I just downloaded the Stunt 101 file. I have no clue what you guys are talking about when you say bitpim or anything. my question is, do I have to have data cables, etc, to get this song to my phone. I have the LG 5450 and I don't have any data cables or anything like that. Thanks.

well yes, you can export the WAV portion with PSMPlay... but not all of it. It just says, " Yo Your Beyatchh" and if you play it in PSMPlay as the .mmf you will see that it actually has much more to it. so it doesnt export the wav correctly.... or is this just me?

Hmm, you're right - perhaps this effect is related to the so-called "guard" on that file? Out of luck, it seems - sorry!
