Kyocera kx414 software issue: Ringers

Just thought I'd pass along an interesting story on the Kyocera Kx414:

Bought one for me and one for my mother on 11/28. Looked like a good phone, no frills and not a bad price.

On 11/29 I noticed that the phone was ringing with a different ring tone than I had set. That was odd. I removed the battery, rebooted and tried again. The ringer now worked. Two hours later, it was back to ringing with the "Phantom" ring tone, which was very low and very hard to hear when the phone was in my pocket.

Soooooooo, back to the VZW store I went on 11/30. I explained the problem and told the tech rep I imagined it was a software problem with the phone.
One rep said this was happening b/c I was outside of my home area. Wow, good answer!!! NOT! Try again boys. Next rep said it was a problem with that particular ringer I was choosing. I explained I had tried this with every ringer and it wasn't that. Hmmmmmmm, next rep looks at it and says he just doesn't know.
Soooooooo, they exchange the phone for a new one.

The next week, the new phone does the same thing. So, I bring it in to another VZW store near my job. I explain to them the situation. They take the phone for 20 mins and come back and say the phone wasn't set up correctly and they have now fixed the problem. I argue that its a software issue. "Oh, No" they say, the head office has not yet told them about any software issues with this phone. Reluctantly, I take the phone and leave, with their promise that the phone has been fixed!!!

Next day , the phone does the same thing! I keep missing my calls. Now I am a bit angry. Just a bit!
Take the phone back to the original store where I bought it.. The tech rep present is the one who told me that the problem was due to my home area blah blah blah.
I explained to him the entire saga. He says "yeah, you know, you were right a few weeks ago. There is a software issue with this phone". Well, this was what I had been waiting for...the admission of guilt!
So I said, well you sold me a phone with bad software, now I think I am entitled to a new model.
He looks at me and says "Yeahhhhhhhhhhh, uhhhhh, I think you are stuck with this model now. Sorry "

That's when I called for the store mgr and got down to business. Convinced the mgr that I was entitled to a new model after VZW sold me this lemon. He agreed, but reluctantly.

By the way, my mother's phone had the exact same issue. Exchanged hers too.

Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else has the same problem.

happy new year!

This phone supports many ringer types. Normal, Personal and Business at a group level, as well as a picture and ringer at the contact level.

Was the ringer consistent from the same contact? Did you try assigning a picture to the contact? Did the picture change as well?

I just got this phone a week ago and think it's great, at least in US Cellular's setup. I actually use it on Verizon, but I don't have to be bothered with BREW or a web browser, and the shortcut keys work like they are suppose to, and it even has Tetris yet!

Too bad VZW thinks they know what is best for the consumer!

I tried everything......nothing worked.
It happened from all from all different callers.

Oh well, 2 bad, i liked the phone 2.
Sturdy, well made, good clear loud sound.

Only thing I didnt like was the SMS ezi text application. Nothing beats T9.
